I have ran spyware programs (Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware) but I still have unwanted IE favourites and an annoying search bar at the bottom. This is my last resort! Thanks!

Hi Sarah, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. I first wish to apologise as this fix is a little complicated and some items did not identify their location in an effort to remain hidden. If you wish my help, please do this:

1) Fix the HJT.exe, return here: C:\Documents and Settings\Sarahs\Desktop\hijackthis.exe and in the Desktop folder RIGHT click a blank spot and make a NEW FOLDER called HJT. Move HJT.exe and the log that should be there into that folder. That is where the backups for safety will be stored also.

2) You have a nasty virus called: W32.Brid.A@mm, the good news is that Symantec has made a tool to remove it. Please read the information in this link:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/[removed] Once you know more about this virus and how it got on your computer then look for: Removal using the removal tool, download the tool and follow the directions exactly.

3) The toolbar sounds like LOP and this was a gift from the nice folks :rant2: at Messenger Plus! 3. Keep in mind that this does not have anything to do with Microsoft or MSN Instant Messenger. Elrond has created a fix for this, please carefully follow his instructions:

You have a LOP infection that often comes together with Messenger Plus. To remove it we will try the simple way first.

1. Go to Add/Remove programs. Double click on "Messenger Plus!" (or click on Remove)

2. The "Messenger Plus! - Setup" is now displayed. Click on the Uninstall button. Note: options displayed on the first screen are not related to the sponsor program.

3. The sponsor screen is now displayed (if you don't see it, search for it in your Task Bar). To prove that someone is currently reading the screen, you have to type the code that is displayed. Once you enter the code, press Uninstall.

4. If you entered the code properly, the program will ask you to confirm that you want to uninstall. You must answer "Yes" to this question, else, you won't have another chance of uninstalling.

5. To complete the uninstallation, follow the instructions that are displayed (the first one is to close all your Internet Explorer windows, that's very important). When everything is complete, restart your computer and, hopefully voila one nasty infection is gone.

Once all of the above instructions are completed then:

4) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

Open Hijack this and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items, Some items may not be there is the above tools did their job:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

If we removed any DPF's you use the next time you visit the site you will be prompted to download them again. Please don't go here again: azesearch.com
SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS~1\katie\APPLIC~1\MEDIAL~1\SoftwareOkay.exe >>> File/folder??
I believe the MEDIAL is part of the LOP, could you look to see if it does not belong on your computer. It may be gone after you ran the LOP uninstall earlier. If you run into doubt, check with me first but at least remove SoftwareOkay.exe this file.

C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\ >>> folder if anything is left.

c:\windows\system32\itlknby.exe >>> file

atltsub.exe >>> file, you will have to look for this one. It may be C:\Windows. If you have to use search for files and folders before you enter Windows Explorer so you will know where it is when you get there.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Settings Army Wait Five\ >>> folderMore of the LOP and it may be gone.

[HB4nROGsR] regedit.exe … file This is the virus, it also should not be here. Use search for files and folder to make sure. Search for regedit.exe if search finds anything go to where search says it is at and delete it.

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Tell us how your are running. Chances are we will have more to do.

Since we remove some trojans, while I review the new log, let's check for trojans, run this free online scan, scan the whole system and set it to clean or fix anything it locates. Let me know what it finds and the exact name and location of anything it locates but can't remove. You may be asked to install an ActiveX, please do so as this program is safe and it can not run without it.
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/ Please give me any information about this scan along with your next post.

Thanks…pskelley

May I add my PC seems to be running great - the regedit does not start up anymore when switching my account on and the LOP toolbar and all its popups and the extra IE favourites have gone as well. Ran the Trojan Scanner and it didn't find any threats. Thanks very much, I really appreciate it! Please reply to tell me if my new log is OK. Once again, thanks :-)
Is it Sarah? Well anyway, except for creating the folder for HijackThis.exe, you did a bang up job. If you every want to learn more there are free training classes available. Would you look at this: C:\Documents and Settings\Sarahs\Desktop\HJT\hijackthis.exe. What I see if I am correct is HJT.exe and backups and a log or two scattered around the Desktop. If this is the case, make a folder by RIGHT clicking a blank spot and call it HJT. Open the folder then drag all of the HJT stuff into the folder for safety. Let me know if I am right please if you don't mind.

You do have a few programs that are running at startup that may not need to run, but your log is clean of malware and if you are happy with the way your computer is booting and running at startup that is fine. If you ever want to know more, just take the .exe off the end of the program, like this for example: RealPlay.exe Type it in Google and Google will tell you:
http://castlecops.com/startuplist-7490.html Some programs can be stopped from running at startup from with the programs settings or configuration, others you have to uncheck in: http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/ . I hope this information helps and since you have a nice clean log, :D here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
