I am having a problem with Pop-ups/new IE pages opening.
I have run Adaware, Spybot S&D, the Anti-spy application in the Yahoo toolbar and deleted items that an online scan from Symantec found.
I will try to attach the log from my latest run of HJT.

I hope someone can help.

Hello Ray5374 , Welcome to the forum.

This is what I suggest you do.

Download CWShredder from my signature below. Unzip it on the desktop.
Open CWShredder and with ALL other windows closed, click fix.

Go here and run at least one of the online scans, allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.

Next:

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.3 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.05 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode check Perform full system scan.
Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.
Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
CW Shredder found no problems.
Panda found a bunch of DLL's which appear to be related to Nic Tech Network.
I also said it fixed c:\window\host.
I manually deleted all the DLL files it reported except one named DIIME.DLL.
That one is in use - even tried it in safe mode.
It also reported EZULA in registery with no further info.

Spybot and Adaware are current and report no problems found.
New IE windows still open at random.

Attached is altest HJT log.

Click HERE to download DllCompare. Start the Program with and click the Run Locate.com - be sure the \Windows\System32 directory is in the box and wait until the the blue text says it has 'completed the scan'.

Click the Compare button to start the next process. The results appear in two panes - files in the upper pane have been verified to 'exist', files in the lower pane were 'not able to be accessed'. Very few files should be listed in the lower pane when the Compare scan is complete. Click on each of the listed entries in the lower pane to select them. Right-click on the file and use the option Rescan. This will cause Windows Find to see if the file does exist, and then if so it will be removed from the list to reduce the number of identified files.

Click the Make a Log of what was found button and post the log here in this thread and wait for further instructions.
While I was witing for your reply I decided to brush off the cobwebs from the old DOS days to try to get rid of DIIME.DLL in win\sys folder.
Booted to DOS mode. Did a DIR in windows\system looking for DIIME and couldn't find it.
Did an attrib for DIIME.DLL. Found it with only the S (system) atrribute. Issued the attrib command to the file with a -s. Did a dir to DIIME anbd low and behold I could see it and then DEL it.

Since then I have not seen any po-ups/IE pages I didn't ask for.

I did a google search for Nic-Tech and found some pretty nasty threads.
I'm not sure why one of what I call "my silver bullets" didn't get this for me.

Now do you or does anyone know how to search a hard drive for files by digital signature?

Anyway - it seems like I may be in good shape.
I did down;load and run DllCompare and the results are below.

* DLLCompare Log version(1.0.0.127)
Files Found that Windows does not See or cannot Access
*Not everything listed here means you are infected!

Great job on the DIIME.DLL

Now do you or does anyone know how to search a hard drive for files by digital signature? Sorry I don't.

You might want to checkout this site:

I suggest you do this:

These aren't bad but are resourch hogs and not needed at startup

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these.

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

I removed the two Office programs from my startup folder but left the security patch running. I did do a little googling to find more info about it and since I am not having any problems with it running and since it is a security patch I guess for now I will leave it run. I was curious about how we would have found the problen I was having by using HJT. I printed out this thread and compared the first log with the last one. The only thing that I can see which seems to relate to my problem is the running process in the original - C:\Windows\rundll32.exe. And I do recall that when booting ZoneAlarm would ask permission for RUNDLL32 to access the Internet. I always denied permission. Now that the DIIME.DLL has been deleted the RUNDLL32.exe is no longer a running process and of course I no longer get that request from ZoneAlarm. Your thoughts? Computer hasn't had a pop-up since I fixed it. Thanks to you for suggesting one more thing - Panda scan - to try to find some bad stuff I am now a happy camper. Ray

Your thoughts?

I'm sure we would have ended up running the DLL compare program and it would have shown it's ugly.

Good Job

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. In my signature below is also a tutorial on how to harden IE, a good read and very helpful to stop these things in the future. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on.

Safe Surfing. :D
