Again I thank you (all??)
Hi redbrown5 and welcome to the Tom Coyote Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will he helping you.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1. Go to the Tom Coyote Forums http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?
.Click on My Controls near the top middle of the window (make sure you have signed in first)
.On the left hand column, click "view topics"
.If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there
2. Also, while at that place in control panel, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification", By doing this, you will be notified as soon as I have posted a reply to your log.

3. We also need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes.

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck: Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck: Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware

4. Make double sure to disable Spybot's Tea Timer for now, as it can interfere with the fixing of problems.

Open Spybot and and make sure you are in Advanced mode (check it in the 'Mode' menu). Go to the Tools section and click resident and then uncheck the box for Tea Timer.

Then, reboot

5. Now I want you to UNINSTALL the following programs through the ADD/REMOVE feature of your Control Panel:

Logitech Desktop Manager

6. Now, using Windows Explorer, I need you to DELETE the following folder(s) and all their content:

C:\Program Files\Logitech Desktop Manager

7. REBOOT your system.

8. Finally, run HijackThis and with all windows closed excepr for HJT, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Regards,

Trevuren
Thank you trevuren,

Followed your directions but did discover one thing. I did not have "MS Config-StartUp" running all the possible ap's. I turned them on for this run.

Hoping to hear from you soon (of course you are not too busy are you?????)

Note: I have someone who can do this stuff for me–or help me out–
Hi redbrown5,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1. I need you to UNINSTALL Logitech Desktop Messenger through the Add/Remove feature of your Control Panel. Also please UNINSTALL any product from MYWEB that is there. We need to make your system neat and clean to go after the real big infection.

2. REBOOT after the uninstalls

3. Run HijackThis with all windows closed excepr for HijackThis, click on SCAN, produce a log and Post it back into this thread.

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Regards,

Trevuren
Hi Trevuren,

Tried to do what you said–No entries in the "Ad-Remove" program for either "Logitech Desktop Massager or MYWEB."

Did a C:\ search for any referance to either of the two types of entries and found only:
Messenger-nothing but referances to AOL MS
MYWEB—–MyWeb email plugin
5 ".txt" files
1 cookie

Deleted them ALL

did a Hard reboot and re-ran the HJT Scan as indicated below:

No problem redbrown5,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Now let's do some work on your log:

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
. Click the Config button located in the lower right hand corner of the HijackThis window.
. When the new screen opens, find and click the Miscellaneous Tools button.
. Then choose the Open Process Manager button.
. From the list of processes, hilight the following items by clicking them, ONE AT A TIME, then DELETE them by clicking the KILL button:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\rkpizv.exe

Once all items have been KILLED, click the Back button which will return you to the HijackThis main window. Now place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

Note–Still have a lot of "Sites" trying to load up there web pages at random :(

Thanks again,

RB5
Hi redbrown5,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1. I want you to download and run a free trial version of an anti-trojan program called Trojan Hunter: Trojan Hunter . Let it scan your whole system and remove anything it finds. If you have already run it, please do it again

REBOOT
your system.

2. Finally, run HijackThis and with all windows closed except for HJT, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Regards,

Trevuren
Back again Trevuren,

Did D-L TrogenHunter and tried to run it. Several problems happened as follows:

*Trogen Guard was enabled and right away and I tried to Clean-
Adware vx2.110
AdwarePurityScan.248
The resulting operation some times freezes, & sometimes clears only one of
them. But they still both come back.

*Turned OFF the "T-Guard" and ran a scan(s). Some times it freezed the
system and sometimes it completes the scan but will not clean the system.

*A Sumery Sheet lists the following as found:
AppWrap.100: BetterInternet.100; Incredifind.BHO; MyWay.100;
PurityScan.248; Vx2.110; Vx2.111; WebRebaes.108;WrldMedia.108;
WindUpdates.MediaPass.100;TrogenDowoloader.Vamz.100.

*A Completed Scan Logs is as follows (but still will not Clean)–

Am not sure just what to do now so I will wait for your input (hopefully),

Sincerely,

Hi redbrown5, Good job

After looking over your log, it is apparent that your system is in quite a bit of trouble. There are numerous virus, malware carrying programs and a lot of overall bad things that would ruin your surfing experience.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1) Please download CWShredder. Download the stand alone version which is free

.Check for Update
.Click Fix.
.Exit CWShredder.
.REBOOT your system

2) I want you to run at least one, and preferably both, of the following FREE online antivirus scanners, making sure that you choose to do a "complete scan" and letting the program fix everything it finds. It is also necessary to REBOOT your system after running each program.

TrendMicro Free Virus Scanner and Panda Software Online Virus Scanner.

3) I want you to download the most current versionof Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy, install, configure, update and run them according to the instructions provided in the link at the bottom of my post (in my signature panel). Once ad-aware is installed return to the ad-aware site and download and install their VX2 plug-in.

Remember, it is important that you REBOOT your system after having run each one

4) Please click HERE to download System Security Suite. Extract it from the zip file into a folder and doubleclick on sss.exe. Check the boxes under the 'Items to Clear' tab and click 'Clear Selected Items'. Reboot when prompted.

5) Finally, with all windows closed except for HJT, run HijackThis, click on SCAN, then on Save Log and POST log back into this thread.

6) Resetting Internet Explorer Home Page and Search Page

This procedure restores the Internet Explorer home page and search page to the default settings.

Close all Internet Explorer windows.
Open Control Panel. Click Start>Settings>Control Panel.
Double-click the Internet Options icon.
In the Internet Properties window, click the Programs tab.
Click the Reset Web Settings… button.
Select Also reset my home page. Click Yes.
Click OK.

7) Finally, run HijackThis and with all windows closed except for HJT, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

I know how time consuming all of this is but we have no choice if we hope to clean up your system.

Regards,

Trevuren

WOW redbrown5,

You sure earned your stripes on that one. Excellent job. Now to dump some of this baggage before continuing.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1) Look in your ADD/Control Panel for anything to do with MyWay. If you find something, UNINSTALL it ALL and then remove the whole directory and all its contents through Windows Explorer.

2) I want you to clean your Prefetch folder, please follow these instructions:

Download: CCleaner
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html
http://www.ccleaner.com/
Once installed, run CCleaner click the Windows tab

Select the following:
Internet Explorer:
Temp Internet
History
Recently Typed URLs
Delete Index.dat files

System:
Empty Recycle Bin
Temporary Files
Memory Dumps
Chkdsk File Fragments
Old Prefetch Data

Next: click Options click the Settings tab
Uncheck: "Only delete files older than 48 hrs.", click Ok
Then click Run Cleaner (bottom right) then Exit (reboot)

3. I need you to clean out your system restore cache. I must advise you that this will mean that there will be no restore point to fall back on if anything goes wrong. We really don't have a choice because your restore cache is totally corrupt and you wouldn't want to restore from it anyway.

Disable then Enable System Restore in Windows XP

To Disable System Restore

. Right click on "My Computer"
. Left click on "Properties"
. Left click on "System Restore Tab"
. Check box beside "Turn Off System Restore"
. Left click on "Apply"
. Confirmation box appears: answer "YES"

REBOOT your system

To Enable System Restore

. Remove check mark from "Turn Off System Restore"
. Click on "Apply"

4. Finally, run HijackThis and with all windows closed except for HJT, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Regards,

Trevuren
Trevuren,

Ran CCleaner (v1.18.101)and also deleted Cookies,Last Download Location, Clipboard, & WinLog files.

The sysem re-booted itself imediately when I hit "Run" so Re-booted & ran again. No problems that time.

Disabled "System Restore" and once again the system be-booted when I hit Apply.
Checked the setting upon re-boot & it was srill "checked." Un checked and rebooted again.

Note–Had no keyboard when the system came back up so I removed the Driver in "Device Mgr-Hardware" and rebooted. Things now are OK.

Ran an HJT Log as follows:

For your info, Modified the HOST file with "MIKES" Ad-blocking Ap. but I continue to get stuff trying to "go-out or come in." The web pages donot open but they keep popping up.

Again, thanks for the help,

RB5
Hi its_just_ghost,

We get rid of a bit of stuff, then go after another big one

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Reminder] "C:\Windows\Creator\Remind_XP.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tsvcin] C:\WINDOWS\system32\n20050308.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\System32\rkpizv.exe
O20 - Winlogon Notify: MCD - C:\WINDOWS\system32\t68u0gl9e6q.dll

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files and DELETE them (if they are present):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\rkpizv.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\n20050308.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\system32\t68u0gl9e6q.dll

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

Regards,

Trevuren
Trevuren,

Did as advised–Did not find "n20050308.exe" or "t68u0g19e6q.dll" in either area.

Did delete "rkpicv.exe" in both.
