Hi butters and welcome to the Tom Coyote Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will he helping you.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1. Go to the Tom Coyote Forums http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?
.Click on My Controls near the top middle of the window (make sure you have signed in first)
.On the left hand column, click "view topics"
.If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there
2. Also, while at that place in control panel, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification", By doing this, you will be notified as soon as I have posted a reply to your log.

3. Download the most current version of Hijackthis (v.1.99.1)to a folder of its own. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

A. Please go to your 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' and name the folder 'HijackThis'.

B. Download Hijackthis from:HERE

C. Double Click on 'HijackThis.zip' to extract and install HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

D. Close ALL windows except HJT

E. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

F. POST the log in this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Regards,

Trevuren
Trevuren,

Thank you for your help with this. I have followed the instructions and have posted my new log using the newest version of the software below. Again, thank you.

Hi butters, You have 2 serious infections on your machine.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

This first attempt at the worst is not likely to remove it but it is worth a try.

1. Download and install this disk cleanup utility called Cleanup!
Here: http://cleanup.stevengould.org/

or

Here: http://www.hijackthislogs.com/dl/CleanUp312.exe

Here is a tutorial which describes its usage: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial93.html

It will get rid of any malware which may be hiding in your temp folders ( a common hiding place). You will also regain a massive amount of disk space.

2. Run Cleanup!

Check the custom settings to your liking under options, but be sure to delete temporary files and temporary internet files for all user profiles. Also, cleanout the prefetch folder and the recycle bin.

Then reboot into normal mode to let it clean out the remaining files.

3. Download, Update and run Microsoft Antispyware: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/s…re/default.mspx

4. We need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok

Then,,

Boot to safe mode: Instructions here.

5. Close all windows and scan with hijackthis. Place a check mark next to the following items. Then click the "Fix Checked" button.

Good morning Trevuren, hope your weekend went well. I followed your instructions above and below is the newest log of my system. I keep getting a program that runs upon system startup out of my Temp directory. The program name is tp7543.exe. I have deleted this from my Temp. directory but it keeps returning. Thanks again.

Hi butters,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1. Download and install this disk cleanup utility called Cleanup!
Here: http://cleanup.stevengould.org/

It will get rid of any malware which may be hiding in your temp folders ( a common hiding place). You will also regain a massive amount of disk space.

Check the custom settings to your liking under options, but be sure to delete temporary files and temporary internet files for all user profiles. Also, cleanout the prefetch folder and the recycle bin.

2. Boot into Safe Mode

3. Run Cleanup

4. REBOOT back into Normal Mode

5. Run HijackThis with all windows closed excepr for HijackThis, click on SCAN, produce a log and Post it back into this thread.

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Regards,

Trevuren
I logged into safe mode and ran the cleanup. Then logged back into normal mode and ran hyjackthis. The log below is the result of that scan. I noticed that some of the red.clientapps items came back. I know I had hyjackthis fix those before. Anyway thanks for the help.

Hi butters,

1) Did the system start from the temp file this time?

2) Do you know what this is for? O23 - Service: eToken Notification Service (ETOKSRV) - Aladdin Knowledge Systems Ltd. - C:\WINDOWS\System32\eTSrv.exe

3) Open HJT, click SCAN and:

Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…/search/ie.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System

Finally,RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

Regards,

Trevuren
Hello,

OK, yes the temp. file did start on system startup again.

I do not know what this is - O23 - Service: eToken Notification Service (ETOKSRV) - Aladdin Knowledge Systems Ltd. - C:\WINDOWS\System32\eTSrv.exe

I used HJT to fix the following

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…/search/ie.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com

rebooted into normal mode and got the HJT log file that is below

I think that covers all your questions and instructions. If not let me know and I will get you what you need.

Thanks.
Bi butters,

That 023 refers to an antirus system that I don't think is still on your machine. I would like to remove the remnants and some other stuff just to see. I would also like to know what goes on when that batch file runs at startup. Are there any pictures/…messages??? any writing???
——————————-
Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1) Download "service Filter" from : HERE to your Desktop so you can find it easily later. Do not use it now.

2) Open HijackThis, run a SCAN, Scroll down the list of entries until you reach the 023 entries. Here I need you to find the following entry:

O23 - Service: eToken Notification Service (ETOKSRV) - Aladdin Knowledge Systems Ltd. - C:\WINDOWS\System32\eTSrv.exe

Write down, on a piece of paper for future reference all the information found in that entry.

Close HijackThis.
———————————
3. Now open Service Filter by clicking on its icon.
. Then click OK and OK again when prompted.
. A Wordpad text will appear on your desktop. Scroll down the list of services until you find the services containing the names you wrote down during the preceding procedure.
. For each 023 involved, carefully write down the name that appears beside the label "Service Name". These names will be required in the next step.
. Close the program when finished.
—————————-
4. Now we need to work from the Command Prompt

Go Start>>Programs>>Accessories>>Command Prompt

. A black box will appear with a flashing cursor. At the cursor, type cd.. then cd.. again and repeat the procedure until the writing preceeding the cursor says C:\>

. Now carefully type the following: sc delete servicename, where servicename is replaced by the one of the real service names that you have written down. Press ENTER. (Probably ETOKSRV)

.Close the Command Prompt box.
——————————————
Now let's do some work on your log:

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
. Click the Config button located in the lower right hand corner of the HijackThis window.
. When the new screen opens, find and click the Miscellaneous Tools button.
. Then choose the Open Process Manager button.
. From the list of processes, hilight the following items by clicking them, ONE AT A TIME, then DELETE them by clicking the KILL button:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\eTSrv.exe

Once all items have been KILLED, click the Back button which will return you to the HijackThis main window. Now place a check mark beside each one of the following items: (Don't worry the 016 will return if you need them)

O16 - DPF: {41F17733-B041-4099-A042-B518BB6A408C} - http://appldnld.m7z.net/content.info.apple…iTunesSetup.exe

O23 - Service: eToken Notification Service (ETOKSRV) - Aladdin Knowledge Systems Ltd. - C:\WINDOWS\System32\eTSrv.exe

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following file and delete it (if it is present):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\eTSrv.exe

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally,RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

Regards,

Trevuren
Alright, I made it to the point where I tried to kill the process with HJT. Everytime I try to kill it though I get the following error: The selected process could not be killed. It may have already closed, or it may be protected by Windows. This process might be a service, which you can stop from the service applet in admin tools. (To load this window, click start, run and enter services .msc.) I will wait for further instructions before proceeding. Thanks
Hi butters,

1. Go to START>>RUN and type services.msc > o.k
.A window will appear titled "Services".

2. .Scroll down the list of services on the right and find the one that corresponds to Service: eToken Notification Service (ETOKSRV) - Aladdin Knowledge Systems Ltd. - C:\WINDOWS\System32\eTSrv.exe. You should see enough info to confirm that it is the correct one.

3. Highlight the service and choose STOP from the 2 choices that appear under the heading Service Local.

4. Exit this window

Regards,

Trevuren
I think I got everything done that you asked me to. When I went to check the items that you wanted me to have HJT fix I found all but the following one in the list.
O23 - Service: eToken Notification Service (ETOKSRV) - Aladdin Knowledge Systems Ltd. - C:\WINDOWS\System32\eTSrv.exe

Other than that I think I got everything done. I still got the temp file on windows start up.

Thanks.

Hi there. I am new to all this and my pc administrator just moved to SC. She is not familiar with Hijack This no more than I am and at this point…..I'm confused. I've noticed some slight changes in my system lately as I've recently canned a nasty dialer. I'm beginning to wonder if it's completely gone or what? The only thing I did not add to my profile of my system in the profile setup was that I have upgraded my system to Service Pack 2. Other than that, here is my log as of today. Anyone able to translate? Is there anything wrong?

In addition to this, I have also had an odd problem occur as of late. Dunno what happened but my DVD-RW drive is not working all the sudden. It says that it is working in my Device Manager. I already tried to update the driver but to no avail. I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver. Still nothing. What could be the problem? I dunno. Please help….I'd appreciate it.

Ciao,
