Hello straydog1155, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. Working a little blind on this one as you did not say if you have a problem or not? I will go after what I see but you should always tell the doctor what hurts. Never know where they may cut otherwise.

Tell me what this is: C:\WINDOWS\Integrator.exe, I think it is valid, but there is not much information. Post what you know in the next log.
Read the information under these items, the Alecxmntr you will have to search for, I think it is C:\Program Files
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
http://castlecops.com/startuplist-180.html
C:\PROGRA~1\NETRAT~1\NetRatings Premeter spyware\NetMeter.exe
http://castlecops.com/startuplist-2440.html

Please download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

Look in Add Remove programs for this item, uninstall it if there:
NetRatings Premeter
If it is not there then open your Task Manager and under the Processes tab end process on:
NetRatings Premeter spyware
ALCXMNTR.EXE

Open Hijack this and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://srch-us6.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…rch/search.html

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…://my.yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NetMeter] C:\PROGRA~1\NETRAT~1\NetMeter\NetMeter.exe
(next item is Neilson something??)
O16 - DPF: {92CA8ACC-4E99-4A2A-93F1-B2C5CADC8613} (NMInstall Control) - http://a14.g.akamai.net/f/14/7141/1d/www.n…GAPANEL_USA.cab

Close all programs but HJT and all browser window, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the follow link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT click on Start the click on Explore, locate and delete these items:

C:\PROGRAM FILES~1\NETRAT~1\ >>> folder

ALCXMNTR.EXE >>> file (I think this is C:\Programs Files also, if not search for it)

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log along with any feedback you have. Stay in this thread.

Thanks…pskelley

On 4/5/05 I recieved a reply from pskelley. That, like much of my other attempts at fixing my issue(s)got lost. This is my reply. My computer, a HP Pavillion 533w loaded w/XP is having problems. My search feature in Windows is gone/My System recovery is gone/any attempts at cleaning are gone. Spybot has been left alone while ad aware disappeared. IE is gone(well almost gone) so firefox was loaded so that I could still access more secure areas of IE. Our AOL works except when we need a secure site. The Pogo games will not work unless loaded from fire fox. I have tried all I know to try.
PSKelley,I did what you said to do. The results are as follows. You should know the net rating was for Nielsen. I bowed out after you said to. I had been with them for over 2 years and the reply from them was that they were going to look into it from their end.As far as I know they were benign and harmless. Well here's the log, hope this explains more and I look for further info from you. Thanks Again. P.S. AVG was loaded when MacAfee would not load right. As a note these problems started at the same time we got rid of Norton ANTI Virus,a coincidence?

Hello straydog1155, One of the HJT team members found your post and called it to my attention. There are many posts and one can get lost unless you stay in the same thread. I have merged the two together and you must not use "New Thread" always reply to the thread you originally start. I am notified by email when you do that.I will post this now and then I will start looking at the new log and the feedback you gave me. I will respond as soon as possible. Thanks…pskelley
Hello straydog1155, Let me cover a few questions then since it has been ten days, I will look at the new log and go from there. I do not know if I can resolve all of your issues, but once I am certain your computer is not infected with malware, and all of these different antivirus programs are sorted out that will be a start.

Let's clear this up first, this item:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NetMeter] C:\PROGRA~1\NETRAT~1\NetMeter\NetMeter.exe is reported here by CastleCops: http://castlecops.com/startuplist-2440.html as spyware. I do not allow them to call my home either. Now my job since you requested help is to remove spyware from your computer. The following 016 that we removed (Downloaded Program File) also has to do with Neilson as I have indicated. If you wish to have this stuff on your computer, please put it there once I have finished. It is afterall your computer. I should take just a moment to tell you I have removed spyware from perhaps 4 or 5 thousand computers in the last couple of years and that is the first time I have seen that item on a computer. I can also say that I have no concern about Neilson.
I will look at the log and proceed to make sure it is clean of malware. At that point I will have completed my work, if you still have issue that are not malware related, I may be able to help you or at least direct you to where you can get help.

On April 4 you provided me with a log showing your HJT.exe in this position:
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\hijackthis\HijackThis.exe
The current log scan on:
Scan saved at 6:15:12 AM, on 4/14/2005 shows HJT.exe to be in this position:
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\OWNER\DESKTOP\HijackThis.exe A change has been made and the HJT.exe no longer has the folder it need to store logs and backups in. I caution you to correct this because if a mistake is made there may be no backups if they are needed. Return to that Desktop folder, RIGHT click a blank spot and make a NEW FOLDER. Move HJT and the log that should be there. There should be backups from the first time you used HJT. If you can locate them I would put them in that folder.
This item is still in your log after I included removal in my last post. I will give you this information once more: http://castlecops.com/startuplist-180.html but I will not include it in the next fix with HJT. Now that you know what CastleCops has to say about it. you may do with it as you wish.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

This item is: http://castlecops.com/clsid-516.html There is a possibility this could be an issue. It is not malware, but might conflict with AVG. It is possible I suppose. The same applies to the toolbar
O2 - BHO: CNavExtBho Class - {BDF3E430-B101-42AD-A544-FADC6B084872} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll (file missing)
O3 - Toolbar: Norton AntiVirus - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll (file missing)

More Norton: http://castlecops.com/startuplist-524.html I am showing you tis information becuase if you removoed the Symantec (Norton) program, these lingering programs may be what is causing your issue? I will of couse give you instuctions for removing them unless for some reason you do not want them removed.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ccApp] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe"

I am assuming that you are going to run AVG as your Antivirus software. If that is the case, you have McAfee programs that need to be removed or you may have conflicts that might make less protected that if they were removed. I will show you these items and I suggest you remove them.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MCUpdateExe] C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\Agent\McUpdate.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MCAgentExe] C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\Agent\McAgent.exe

This is an old AVG 6.0 Service: O23 - Service: AVG6 Service (AvgServ) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG6\avgserv.exe (file missing) It should have been removed when you installed AVG Free. The correct proceedure was not to uninstall 6.0 but rather to download Avg. free and it would remove the old product during the download. If you did not do this correctly, you might want to uninstall AVG free and download it again once your computer is clean. I can't safely remove the file as I do not know if it will effect the new version?? I do not want you to be without protection.

These items appear in your Services so it appears Norton/Symantec was also not uninstalled properly. I will say this is a bit of a mess. As you have assured me that you are no longer using Norton/Symantec, I will add these items to the HJT fix. You may have to disable these services, or you may also have to contact Symantec for instruction for uninstalling them. I guess we will just have to play it by ear as see what happens. If, as a result of the information you have questions that concern what is going to happen with HijackThis, I suggest you stop and contact me with your questions.

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT click on Start then click on Explore, locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\ >>>folder

Run CCCleaner using the default setting, then post another log, please include your feedback. We will see where we are at then.

Thanks…pskelley
Once you have completed those instructions you may have to turn off the Symantec/Norton services you no long use, here is some information:
http://www.z123.org/techsupport/xpservices.htm

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen…t_settings.mspx
To configure how a service is started
1.
Open Services

2.
Right-click the service that you want to configure, and then click Properties.

3.
On the General tab, in the Startup type box, click Automatic, Manual, or Disabled.

4.
To specify the user account that the service can use to log on, click the Log On tab, and then do one of the following:

• To specify that the service use the LocalSystem account, click Local System account.

• To specify that the service use the LocalService account, click This account, and then type NT AUTHORITY\LocalService.

• To specify that the service use the NetworkService account, click This account, and then type NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService.

• To specify another account, click This account, click Browse, and then specify a user account in the Select User dialog box. When you are finished, click OK.

5.
Type the password for the user account in the Password box and in the Confirm password box, and then click OK.

Important
• Changing the default service settings might prevent key services from running correctly. It is especially important to use caution when changing the Startup Type and Log On As settings of services that are configured to start automatically.

Top of page
Note

• To open Services, click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Services.

• You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure.

• If you enable or disable a service and you encounter a problem starting the computer, you might be able to start the computer in safe mode Then you can change the service configuration or restore the default configuration. For more information, see Related Topics.

• If you select the Allow service to interact with desktop check box, the service is enabled to provide a user interface on a desktop. This feature is available only if you click Local System account and only if the service is configured to interact with the desktop.

Be very careful only to disable the services from Norton/Symantec if they are there to disable.
As you have presented I will attempt to do all these things in the next 24-48 hrs. As I am disabled I may get derailed for a while and not get back right away. We had a problem with Symantec when we downloaded the new updates for 2005 .It would not install even with the help of their tech. Page 2- AOL has MacAfee which is free and it too was working fine then it went haywire. As per the message boards on AOL it was attempted to be fixed. Again nothing worked and then all the other probs.started with IE etc. So Firefox and a whole bunch of cleaners, trojan hunters etc were used to no avail. Right now we use AOL 9.0Securityw/AVG and Spybot. Whenever we need a secure page we use FireFox since AOL tells us it is done at the first page. WE WILL NOT use E Bay or anything else until it gets straight. I do have the start up disks from HP due to a system crash 2 yrs ago. The hard drive burned and a 80 GB was installed to replace the 40 GB. Not long after that my daughter brought a floppy home that was infected so we now use an external floppy rather than replace the internal floppy. Would it make sense to eliminate all these steps you have listed, wipe the hard drive and start over with the start up discs? I do have a back up Compaq to plug the hole until you let me know what to do. I await your answer and will follow your course of action cuz YOU are the only one who has REALLY helped me. Thanks Again and good computing. :)
Hello, All things considered, because of the confusion created by all of the various antivirus software that has been installed on this computer and other issues you are having, a reformat might not be a bad idea. We like to believe we can fix any problem (malware) but it might be better for you to clean it all off and then to start fresh. Make sure you back up anything you do not want to lose. I will include the information I give to each member once we have achieved a clean computer so you can review it as it should help you make the decisions you will have to make from day one. I will mention that I am not a lover of aol, so I will be careful to say nothing more about that product except if you are loading aol software once you start over, make sure you know if McAfee is going to be part of that software. If this is the case you will wish not to install AVG. I wish you well with your decision and while reformating is not part of my area of expertise, I will answer any question I can if it helps. Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

Hello, Because we do not like to leave anyone until they have resolved there issues on way or another I am making this contact. My records show you were considering a reformat and I have not heard from you since April 15. If you have resolved your issues I would appreciate a quick post indicating so. If you still need our help, please post a new log. I will close this thread in 48 hours assuming it has been resolved if I do not hear from you. Thanks…Phil
Hello! After a Computer Crash and burn and a few other noxious things happening I called HP and initiated a recovery effort since THEIR Propietary platform was messed up. After 2 attempts to find someone knowledgeable I elected to just wipe the drive and start over. Hence I am still plagued with problems with THEIR platform but everything else works. I kept AOL and also kept Firefox(It really is as good as claimed)as a backup with AVG as a backup with Macafee. So far so good…. But I will get my revenge on HP for their lousy techs. Nothing but @#$!$ from my mouth when someone mentions HP :) I will stay a member of this forum for awhile just to stay on top. Thanks again for at least showing me the error of the ways.
I may have already covered this, but make sure you have AVG (which is a great free program) turned completely off while you are running McAfee. As far as Firefox goes, I find it a good browser, but :( I never remember to use it. I have been using IE so long it is a habit. The myth that you can't get infected with that browser is not true, it just happens that many more problem use IE so that is where the $$ is for the malware writers. The more folks that move to Firefox and other browsers the more it will become financial incentive for malware writers to look for and find security breaches in those browsers. It has already begun, watch the tech news. While there are no 100% guarantees if you use the information in the links I provided, and the key programs are all freeware, couple that will a little common sense that is also described above and you stand a fair chance of not getting infected. Use your HJT log as a tool to watch what is going on. Keep your programs updated and use autoupdates as much as possible. All it takes is to miss one update, AV companies are working against the clock to rush our data files for your protection once new malware has been identified. Does them little good if you do not use the protection they prepared for you and it only takes one trojan to open the door to multitudes of malware. Be careful and be safe.
