Hi LeeAnnaBanana Welcome to Tom Coyote Forums. You have a heavily infected computer but I will try to help you. I'm looking over your log file and will get back to you soon. Elrond
Hi again LeeAnnaBanana.

You have at least two serious infections on your computer. :( As they both download a lot of junk from the internet try to minimize the time spent connected to the internet until we got your computer clean.

RED or UNDERLINED words are links that can be clicked.

HOW TO
Should you need instructions for:
Showing hidden files and folders in Windows.
Reboot in safe mode. (If you have a keyboard with a "F Lock" key click it so that the "F" light above it is on when you start tapping the "F8" key.)
How to print the fix instructions
Click the red links above.

How to unzip a downloaded zip file.
Place the zip file in the folder where you want the unzipped program to be.
If you are running Windows XP you simply right click the zip file and select "Extract Files".
For the other versions of Windows you will need a program like 7-Zip . Open 7-Zip. Navigate to to the downloaded zipfile and highlight it. Right click and select "Extract Here"

When asked to post a new HijackThis log please
Close all windows and browsers.
Find the HijackThis folder. Open it and double click "HijackThis.exe". Click "Do a system scan" and save a "logfile". (If Hijack this shows you a "Scan" button it is OK.)
The "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Click it. Click "Ctrl-A" (the "Ctrl" key and the "A" key at the same time) to highlight the whole log. Now click "Ctrl-C" to copy the text. Open this topic and click the "Add Reply" button at the bottom of the page. Paste the log into the window that opens up by clicking "Ctrl-V". Click "Add Reply" to post.

1. Please copy the instructions to a notepad or preferably print them.

2. Make sure to work through the fixes exactly as given and in the exact order they are mentioned below.

3. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

4. IMPORTANT. Must be done before start of cleanup.
Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a permanent folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. For this reason it cannot be run from a Zip file or from Temporary folders because the backups will be deleted. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!
a. Please go to your 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.
b. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.
DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL INSTRUCTED TO DO SO. SOME OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO YOUR COMPUTER'S HEALTH

5. Configure Windows to show all files. (see above)

6. Run LSPfix and place a check against the I know what I am doing check box.
Highlight every instance of the following names and move them from the Keep to the Remove panel. Be sure to move nothing other than the files listed below!
dolsp.dll
aklsp.dll

When done, click on Finish to exit the program; do not use the X in the top right-hand corner as nothing will happen!

7. Go to: Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, and remove:
LimeWire
MyWebSearch If you did not purposely install it you should remove it as well.
Reboot after each uninstall.

8. You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:
http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe
Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.
Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening. After a minute or two, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

9. * Close ALL windows except "HijackThis"
* SCAN with "HijackThis"
* POST the new log together with the log from point 8 in this thread using "Add Reply" :D

LeAnnaBanana you are doing very well and we are keeping a good pace in the cleanup. This should take care of one of the major infections have if everything goes well.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter. Press any key to reboot your computer. After the reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

I still can't get rid of MyWebSearch. It says access denied.
Hi LeeAnnaBanana
OK it looks as if one is gone. Until we get rid of the second infection that you have we really do not care about the minor infections. We will take care of them later.

You appear to have the new Bube.d aka Win32.Beavis infection. This is a particularly nasty and stubborn infection that will take several steps to clean up your system.

1. I want you to download Microsoft Antispyware. It is still in a beta version. It is free and available for Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server™ 2003
You can get the download here:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/securit…fault.mspx

Be SURE to get the latest updates for the program (just open the program and Click on the *Spyware Definitions* to update the program before scanning)

Run the program.

2. Reboot

3. I am going to give you a link to the Castle Cops website with the fix for Bube.d as written by Calamity Jane.
Fix by Calamity Jane: http://computercops.biz/postt106277.html

Please read through the Bube.d fix, and if you have any questions please post back.

The basic process you will follow for this phase is:

1 – Download and run Hoster if it is needed.
2 – Download and run the Kaspersky Anti-Virus program in Safe Mode per the instructions from Calamity Jane.
3 – Reboot to normal and create a fresh HijackThis log. Post it together with the KAV login thiss thread.

As you can see Microsoft Antispyware is supposed to take care of Bube. However it it not clear that it catches everything. On the other hand it does a good job of resetting a lot of settings the way they should be. Therefore I want you to run it first and then follow up with the Kasperski Antivirus (KAV). The latter also takes care of a lot of the junk that the two major infections istalled.

4. After you have completed the fix and posted a new HJT log for review, we'll follow up with the next set of instructions.

Make sure you reboot into normal mode before running HJT.
Elrond
I could not save a KAV file. The program did not run well on my computer.
My New HiJackThis logfile.
Thank you for all your help so far.
LeeAnna

Hi LeeAnnaBanana

You are doing very well. It looks as if you got rid of the second major infection.

1. Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a permanent folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!
a. Please go to your 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.
b. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

2. Open HijackThis and click "Do a System Scan Only". (If HijackThis shows a "Scan" button that is OK.) When the scan is finished put a check mark by the items that are listed in below. If you can not find an item just continue but inform me with your next post.
Do not click fix until instructed to do so:
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\SrchAstt\1.bin\MWSSRCAS.DLL (file missing)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MyWebSearch Email Plugin] C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\mwsoemon.exe
O4 - Startup: MyWebSearch Email Plugin.lnk = C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\1.bin\MWSOEMON.EXE
O4 - Global Startup: MyWebSearch Email Plugin.lnk = C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\1.bin\MWSOEMON.EXE
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://bar.mywebsearch.com/menusearch.html?p=ZRxdm428YYCA
O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.imgfarm.com/images/nocache/funwe…up1.0.0.8-2.cab

The following items are OPTIONAL and can be fixed by putting a check mark by each line. By fixing it you can shorten boot-up time and free up resources. You will not harm your program by doing this and you will still be able to start it manually via the start-button. It is your choice, so you must decide whether you want to get rid of it or not.
"Quick launch System Tray Icon for Quicktime Player. Not needed unless you use Quicktime regularly. Will reappear every time you use the player though unless you start Quicktime player, click on Edit> Preferences> Quicktime Preferences and Uncheck 'Quicktime System Tray Icon'."
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] C:\WINDOWS\system32\qttask.exe
This is a resource hog that launches common MS Office components to help speed up the launch of Office programs. Some users claim there's no difference with or without it but it isn't required anyway.
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

Close all open windows except HijackThis and then click the "Fix checked" button.

3. Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

4. Using Windows Explorer, locate the following folder and delete it:
C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch << This folder
Exit Explorer

5. Reboot in normal mode.

6. * Close ALL windows except "HijackThis"
* SCAN with "HijackThis"
* POST the new log in this thread using "Add Reply"
