Hot Links And Pop-ups

3 min read

This thread's last reply is from . Advice, software, and links below may be out of date — treat specific steps and download links with caution.

Looking for the outcome? Ask AI

I have Norton Internet Security, Ad-aware, Spy-bot and the beta microsoft sypware all installed. Will run all three, sometimes problem files show and I delete BUT there are certain words still are hot-linked in any page I view and pop-ups keep coming up. When you click on the hot-link it will take to you places you don't always want to go!

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hello jlang123, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. If you still need help, please follow these directions.
I wish to say that I believe an updated and properly configured Ad-aware and Spybot should have removed most of this stuff. I will give you links to tutorials a little later, you should make sure you are using these tools according to the tutorials, that they are the newest version and updated.

1) You are running HJT from a .zip file in a temporary directory. It needs a permanent folder to save logs and backups for safety. Please follow the directions to place HJT accordingly. Make sure the zip is deleted once HJT is safely in the folder.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial94.html

2) Please download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

3) Suggested removal: C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe Questionable program installed by aol without users permission, I will schedule removal. Review the information I supply and pass over it if you wish.

http://computercops.biz/startuplist-4102.html
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=13470

4) C:\Program Files\Support.com\bin\tgkill.exe /cleaneahtioga /start
http://castlecops.com/startuplist-637.html Please review this information, then before you remove this please check with Comcast for assurance other wise leave it alone. Thanks.

5) You are running Microsoft AntiSpyware and it may interfere with changes we need to make with HJT. Use these istructions to prevent that:
To disable the program, follow the instructions below:
1.) Right click on the Microsoft Antispyware tray icon (a little red and yellow circle looking thing)
2.) Click on Security Agents Status (Enabled)
3.) Click on Disable Real-time Protection.

6) Use Add Remove programs to remove:
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
C:\Program Files\Support.com\bin\tgkill.exe (Check with Comcast first)

Open HijackThis and choose Do a system scan only, check the box in front of these line items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ap9h4qmo] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ap9h4qmo.exe
(Check the next on if you DO NOT want Comcast as your Startpage)
O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www.comcast.net
O16 - DPF: {084F552D-19EB-4668-9788-984CBC781A8F} (AsyncDownloader Class) - http://survey.otxresearch.com/Preloader.dll
-TrojanDownloader.OTXloader.A

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the follow link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT click on Start then click on Explore, locate and delete this file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ap9h4qmo.exe >>> file

Run CCleaner then restart the computer. Stay in this same thread and post a new log along with any feedback you think I should have.

Here are links to the tutorials I mentioned above:

Thank you so much for your help! I have done all you suggested - left the COMCAST items there for now. At first look it seems to be fixed. I also appreciate the tutorial websites. This is a great service!

OK jlang123, Good job following those complex instructions. I do suggest you talk to Comcast about their software. When I installed DSL by Verizon a couple of years ago the service tech was nice enough to tell me the truth when I asked, that the Support stuff was a big waste of resources and I never installed it. What I suggest you do is open your Task Manager then the Processes tab and see what kind of resources the item is using. The balance of the log looks good here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
