Scanning With Spybot S&D:

3. Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D.

4. Click the button to ‘Search for Updates’ then download and install the Updates.

5. Next click the button ‘Check for Problems’

6. When Spybot is complete, it will be showing ‘RED’ entries bold 'Black' entries and ‘GREEN’ entries in the window.

7. Make certain there is a check mark beside all of the RED entries ONLY.

8. Choose ‘Fix Selected Problems’ and allow Spybot to fix the RED entries.

9.REBOOT to complete the scan and clear memory.

10. Do not enable Tea Timer until the log is clean as it will prevent the fix from working.

*include addtional object information
*DESELECT - include negligible objects information
*include environment information

*Don't log ADS with the following names: CA_INOCULATEIT

4) Click the ‘Tweak’ button and select in green:

Under the ‘Scanning Engine’:
*Unload recognized processes during scanning
*Scan registry for all users instead of current user only

Under the ‘Cleaning Engine’:
*Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

Under the Log Files:

*Include additional Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
*Please do not check or make green: Include Module list in logfile

5. Click on ‘Proceed’ to save the settings.

6. Click ‘Start’

*Choose:'Perform Full System Scan'
*DESELECT "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.

7. Click ‘Next’ and Ad-Aware SE will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected and clean automatically.

Step 1
I couldn't find any information on this file. Do you know what it is? Right click on the file and choose 'properties', than on the 'version' tab note what the "Company" and "Version" are.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\dev32.exe

If you still are unsure what this file is, please submit it to the following links for a scan.
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://virusscan.jotti.org/

Step 2
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 3
Please set your computer to show all files.

* Double-click My Computer.
* Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
* Click the View tab.
* Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
* Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
* Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

You will need to reverse this process when all steps are done.

Step 4
Please delete the following files/folders:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm << File only
C:\WINDOWS\NTDDETECT.DAT << File only
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntddetect.exe << File only

C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker << Whole Folder

If you have any problem deleting these files, reboot into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter') and try again.

Step 5
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.
Alrighty. Went through the steps [although I still cannot right click *anything* on the desktop, or within file folder windows; submitted file to virus site anyways, and deleted], deleted what I found. The files were in different subfolders than plain System [for the htm file; oohsa or somethign like that], or Windows [for ntddtect.dat, in with sys32]….here is my new log. Note: still cannot right click.. :(

Click Start < Run and type services.msc. Scroll down to Provides three management service and right click on it. Click Properties and under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

O23 - Service: Provides three management service (FreeBSD) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\dev32.exe (file missing)

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Please check to see if any of the system files are corrupt. You'll need your Windows CD to make this work.

Click Start > Run > and type sfc /scannow (There is a space between the c and /.)
disabled the option, ran HJT again and removed the line. ran the command line, fixed a few corruptions….now what? [still can't right click desktop/files, get into a properties screen, etc]
Can you use the keyboard shortcut to access those features?

Single click on the file and press shift+F10.

Did you reinstall the mouse drivers or try another mouse yet?
tried mouse [spare logitec, vs. usual intellimouse exp], no go. keyboard shortcuts, and the windows menu key both don't do anything. I've also noticed since, that I cannot scroll teh desktop backgrounds list in the display properties at all, that section of window is greyed out. File properties window as well is blocked.
…Uhm….that registry key is already in my registries…with a value of 2 [0 and 1 are noted in the site]……. ..Does…that seem odd to anyone else but me?
Alright…that helped a lot. Right-Clicking back to normal [thank you!]…and now the only misbehaviour seems to be that in the display properties, the desktop backgrounds pane is greyed out, and the desktop background is black. In the properties preview miniscreen, the desktop appears as white, along with that greyed out option pane… I know the background is loading, because you can see the image load, when windows first starts and before everything else loads. It would seem like another registry modification, but I don't know where to look..though I'll try to find it in the above-mentioned site… ~Dan P.S. For instance…in registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, there is a key called Wallpaper, with a value of c:/windows/desktop.html [a file I deleted as part of the initial cleanup of my hijacking]…should this be deleted, or modified to the local picturefile i want? Would, do you think, deleting this allow me once more to access fully my desktop properties?
Try this Go to Start # Control Panel | Display # Click the Desktop tab # Customize desktop # Web tab # Remove the check marks for "My Current Home Page" and everything else in that window. # For the "Web Pages" box untick "Security" # Click the Desktop tab # Click Appearance and Themes # Under Pick a task, click Change the desktop background # In the Background list, click a background picture, or click browse to search for a background picture in other folders . In the Position list, click Center, Tile, or Stretch to define how your picture will be displayed. Let me know how you make out.
