Hello,

I'm not certain what I should be deleting. Can someone check my log and let me know what items I can delete. Thank you for your time.

Hi whalenc and welcome to the Tom Coyote Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will he helping you with your log.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1. Go to the Tom Coyote Forums http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?
.Click on Control panel at the top right hand corner of the window (make sure you have signed in first)
.On the left hand column, click "view topics"
.If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there
2. Also, while at that place in control panel, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

You have numerous infections of all kinds and we both have a lot of work to do

1) You are currently running HijackThis from a Temporary folder. HJT needs to be in a folder of it's own so that the program itself and the backups it creates aren't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

a. Please go to your 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder HijackThis.

b. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

2) Please download CWShredder. Download the stand alone version which is free

.Check for Update
.Click Fix.
.Exit CWShredder.
.REBOOT your system

3) I want you to run at least one, and preferably both, of the following FREE online antivirus scanners, making sure that you choose to do a "complete scan" and letting the program fix everything it finds. It is also necessary to REBOOT your system after running each program.

TrendMicro Free Virus Scanner and Panda Software Online Virus Scanner.

4) I need you to download and run a free trial version of an anti-trojan program called Trojan Hunter: Trojan Hunter . Let it scan your whole system and remove anything it finds.

REBOOT your system.

5) I want you to download the most current versionof Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy, install, configure, update and run them according to the instructions provided in the link at the bottom of my post (in my signature panel)

Remember, it is important that you REBOOT your system after having run each one

6) Finally, with all windows closed except for HJT, run HijackThis, click on SCAN, then on Save Log and POST log back into this thread.

I know how time consuming all of this is but we have no choice if we hope to clean up your system.

Hello Trevuren - Thanks for you help. We have followed your instructions. Trojan Hunter cleaned up a bit but still had some "possible" trojans. Trend Micro also cleaned up a bit, but has one it can't clean or delete becasue it is currently in use. Ad-Aware did find a ton of stuff, mainly becasue we didn't have the current version. Below is the new Hi Jack Log, something we can delete yet??

Hi whalenc,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1) Make double sure to disable Spybot's Tea Timer for now, as it can interfere with the fixing of problems.

Open Spybot and and make sure you are in Advanced mode (check it in the 'Mode' menu). Go to the Tools section and click resident and then uncheck the box for Tea Timer.

Then, reboot

2) Copy the data from the code box below to a notepad file.

Save to the DESKTOP (so you can find it) as ALL FILES, with the name of KILLTRUSTED.REG

Then double click the file - when it asks say yes to merging with the registry.

If you have IE-SPYAD installed it will need to be reinstalled as this will wipe all the trusted and restricted zones from the system.

3) Now let's do some work on your log:

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
. Click the Config button located in the lower right hand corner of the HijackThis window.
. When the new screen opens, find and click the Miscellaneous Tools button.
. Then choose the Open Process Manager button.
. From the list of processes, hilight the following items by clicking them, ONE AT A TIME, then DELETE them by clicking the KILL button:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\ikf.exe

Once all items have been KILLED, click the Back button which will return you to the HijackThis main window. Now place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them (if they are present):

Hi whalenc, we are going to take care of 2 major problems tonight.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1)
Please download Winhelp2002's Deldomains.inf to your desktop.

Right-click on the deldomains.inf file and select Install

Once it is finished your Zones should be reset.

2) You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Hello Trevuren, When I selected the 1 > enter a dislog box came up that said the following: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe C:\Windows\System32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS & MS Windows applicatons. Choosse 'Close' to terminate application. My 2 choices were actually Close or Ignore. I choose ignore 1st and nothing happened. I then selected Close & the log came up. Just thought I should mention it in case my choosing Ignore 1st may have altered results. Hi whalenc,

Only infection remnants were foound.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Hi whalenc,

You are doing a very good job. There still remains a VERY difficult infection to get rid of in addition to a lot of small stuff. We will be dealing with the small stuff today.

I have added these two items to my fix today. If you set these proxies yourself, then disregard any reference to them in the fix to follow.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = sas.ce1.attbb.net:8000
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.ce1.attbb.net;

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Now let's do some work on your log:

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
. Click the Config button located in the lower right hand corner of the HijackThis window.
. When the new screen opens, find and click the Miscellaneous Tools button.
. Then choose the Open Process Manager button.
. From the list of processes, hilight the following items by clicking them, ONE AT A TIME, then DELETE them by clicking the KILL button:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\inirmr.exe

Once all items have been KILLED, click the Back button which will return you to the HijackThis main window. Now place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files and delete them (if they are present):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\inirmr.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\n20050308.exe

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally,RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

Hello Trevuren,

I did nto find the inirmr.exe file, however I did a search of the computer for inirmr.exe and it did indictae found in C:Windows\System32 and C:Windows Prefetch. I looked in the C:Windows\System32 in both safe mode & regular and did not find any file named inirmr.exe. I did find INIRMR.EXE-215298FD in the C:Windows Prefetch folder in both Safe & Regular mode. I did not delete from this folder as I was not certain. Should I?
