I suppose that I have been lucky. This is the first significant problem that I have had. The problem is severe enough where I am actually having to enter this post on my laptop. It’s almost as if the offending program’s(?) recognize that I am going to tomcoyote.org and it kills my Internet connection.

I have located at least two programs that I believe are part of the problem.

Desktop.exe (which I never installed)
Sixtypopsix.exe (which I never installed)
There is also something from poppers.com that keeps coming back.

Here is the Hijackthis scan results. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is not amazing that you have problems. Different types of infection shows and we can not resolve them in one fix.

The download I suggest can be put on a disk and use it for the infected PC.

Stap 1.
You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

You need to take stap 2 after posting your log, do not surf between these 2 postings!

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Shadowwar made this al very easy for us to fix.
Just need a new HijackThis-log here after you finished the above advise.
Here is the Log from L2mfix option #2

Thanks Again
It is not certain that the VX2 infection is removed completely. After you followed the advise below please post a new HijackThis log. If not, we have to do tose 2 VX2 staps again.
This VX2 is a magnet for other pieces of malware. So we have to wait and see if the fix was succesfull.

To fix this go to:
http://cexx.org/lspfix.htm and download LSPFix.exe
Run the program, check "I know what Iam doing" and move JUST the files aklsp.dll and
dolsp.dll to the "remove" window. Then "Finish"
Reboot the PC

First go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >Add/Remove Programs
Remove the following (if they are there)
Wildtangent

Click in Hijackthis "config", click "misc tools", click "open process manager" select the proces,
click "kill process" and repeat this for (each of the) below mentioned proces(ses):

C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\desktop.exe
C:\WINDOWS\sixtypopsix.exe
C:\windows\system32\qxvewzjv.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsxsvc\wsxsvc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\yovvvi.exe

then click "back" on the right below.
Put a check beside the lines below and choose “FIX checked”.

toscane, Internet appears to be working fine now. While looking for desktop.exe in the isrvs folder I noticed an exe file that seemed odd. Should I be worried about edmond.exe ? It was created in december and last used today, so it appears that the system is running it on boot.

Should I be worried about edmond.exe ? It was created in december and last used today, so it appears that the system is running it on boot.,

Yes. You also should delete “Edmond.exe”, so find the complete path with explorer.

Furthermore an important cleaningadvice:

This process will clean out your Temp files and your Temporary Internet Files.

Step 1:Delete Temp Files
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button.

This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. If you had trouble deleting a file, reboot into Safe Mode and follow this step again. You should now be able to delete all the files.

Do this same process for %windir%\temp.
Afterwards empty the recyclebin

Reboot the PC in normal mode

Step 2: Delete Temporary Internet Files
Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Step 3: clean the systemrestore:

Reboot the PC and please post a new log.
I will follow your latest instruction tonight when I get home. I obviously need to get new security software. I let Norton expire. Now I am hearing that Norton is not what I should get. I did a little research and it seems PC-Cillin is well thought of. What would you recommend? Thanks
I am the US importer for Siltech. Siltech cables are made in Elst. If you know high performance audio you have probably heard of Siltech

I tried McAfee about four or five years ago, and to be honest it sucked. I removed the program after less than 1 month. McAfee gets fairly low marks in most comparisons that I could find.

I'll do some more research. It is difficult to tell the difference between a real review and what looks like a review but is really advertising.

Gebruik een goed antivirusprogramma, en zorg dat je het dagelijks (liefst automatisch) update:

Thans for your reply by telling me about your job. :) I am glad your PC is working again.
I did the Dutch last post and have to give you this one ;)
  • Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Glad I was able to help.
