Hello tcampbell, run this one now.


Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Please download hoster from the link below.

Unzip Hoster.zip
Open Hoster.exe.

Then click on "Restore Original Hosts"

Close program when complete.



Run HijackThis again and put a check by these.

Use Add/Remove Programs and remove:
isrvs



Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.


Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.




Search for and delete this Folder if listed:
C:\WINNT\isrvs


Search for and delete these files if listed:
C:\WINNT\isrvs\ffisearch.exe


Open C:\Windows\Prefetch\ Delete ALL files in this folder.


Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.


Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.


Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

HJT log from 3/25/2005 - followed your instructions, LDTate, but did not find Prefetch or the isrvs program in control panel.

You asked how the computer was behaving. It has improved greatly once I installed the Microsoft AntiSpyware; but it's not my machine. It belongs to the secretary here. A question if you have time, LDTate, the PCs the IT staff use never seem to get into these messes - what should I be advising the users who do get honked?

1. Don't open email unless you know who the sender is.
2. Don't download any programs without checking with you or the IT dept.
3. Be careful of visiting web site.
4. Keep programs up-to-date. I'll post some free ones in my final clean post.
Keep in mind some my not be free for business use.

BTW, I noticed your user name here is your email address. That also isn't a very good ieda :thumbdown:


I know they all love webshots and weatherbug, but keep in mind it does leave open ports for the bad guys to come through. I face the same thing at the high school I work at, but the higher ups love those programs too. I spend hours cleaning the junk off there pc's. The highest to date was about 2600 items Ad-Aware cleaned.

I'm not sure why the temp files aren't going away. On every post we're getting different files like this one: C:\WINNT\TEMP\EU833E.EXE

Open C:\WINNT\TEMP\ <–Delete ALL files in this folder.

Lets also try this:

1. Open My Computer
2. Right click on your hard drive that you wish to clean (C drive, for example)
3. In the context menu that opens, select properties
4. Under the general tab you should select Disk Cleanup
5. Windows will scan your drive which will take a few seconds/minutes
6. A box will display the various files you can remove.
Check all boxes except compress old files (If listed)
7. Click OK and windows will comply.

Restart your computer.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Log looks good :D :thumbup: How is it running any issues?



1.Do one of the following:
In Windows 98/Me/2000, on the Windows desktop, double-click the My Computer icon.
In Windows XP, on the taskbar, click Start > My Computer.

2.Do one of the following:
In Windows 98, on the View menu, click Folder Options.
In Windows Me/2000/XP, on the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
On the View tab, check Hide file extensions for known file types.

3.Do one of the following:
In Windows 98, in the Advanced Settings box, under the "Hidden files" folder, unclick Show all files.
In Windows Me/2000/XP, check Hide protected operating system files. Then, under the "Hidden files" folder, unclick Show hidden files and folders.
If you see a warning message, click Yes.
Click Apply.
Click OK.



If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.
