Hello rgp, CastleCops points to information that indicate Carol has a rouge spyware product onboard. You check Add Remove programs and uninstall it if there, and I will clean it from your log. Here is the information from CC: http://castlecops.com/startuplist-3473.html and the Rouge Spyware list: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm
There is also a popup blocker of dubious repute: http://castlecops.com/startuplist-5311.html You will want it gone also.
If you are have an issue with Popups, I suggest you consider the Google Toolbar with a built in popup blocker, best of both worlds: http://toolbar.google.com/?promo=gdl-tb-en My suggestion is the basic toolbar without all the frills.

Beside that all I see is a little adware and we will use HJT to remove it.

Scan with HJT and check each of these lines:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…/search/ie.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpyKiller] C:\Program Files\SpyKiller\spykiller.exe /startup
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BestPopUpKiller] C:\Program Files\BestPopUpKiller\BestPopupKiller.exe /startup
(check the next line if you want to get rid of sony as your startpage)

Review the information in the following two links, then rid yourself of all Temp, TIF and Prefetch files.
http://www.personal-computer-tutor.com/deletingtempfiles.htm
http://www.safecomputing.umn.edu/guides/tempdirectories.html
Here is a good utility for you to try: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Which does the work for you. I just installed it and years of using CleanDisk2002 and I am not sure if it clean out the Prefetch folder. You will want to check that. Otherwise it is a great tool,

Just in case Add Remove did not get it all, RIGHT click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these folders:

C:\Program Files\SpyKiller\ >>> folder

C:\Program Files\BestPopUpKiller\ >>> folder

Empty the recycle bin and restart the computer. Stay in this thread, post a new log for a final check. If all is well I will give you some great information to help you keep clean and free programs to replace the rouge ones.

Thanks…pskelley

thank you for your help. Next I'll send up a real challenge; my 10 and 12 year old boys have Internet Access, and I shutter to think what is on their machines. Thanks again rgp
