My home page is stuck on www.thestex.com, everytime I change it, it goes back again. I'm fairly new to this. Please can you help.

Nothing whatever is different. Do it all again in Safe Mode (hit the F8 key several times while booting, until you get a menu). Follow my directions exactly: tick the boxes, close any other windows, click Fix Checked, reboot.

OK Freshbeer could you enable show hidden files and folders then boot back into safe mode.

Using Explorer, find the file C:\windows\system.ini and open using Notepad. Look for the entry:

load=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SERVICES\Y.EXE

and delete it. Next find the file C:windows\win.ini and open using Notepad. Look for the entry:

run=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SERVICES\Y.EXE

and delete it. Close down Explorer and with only HJT running have it fix:

Now that took some doing!! Couldn't find all the files you specified, but presumed I must have deleted on first attempt. Home page is now coming up blank, so I hope this has resolved the problem. Have posted HJT check for final analysis.
