Hello – This is my first post here. I am trying to fix a friends machine. I have already performed the following steps.

Ran Lavasofts Ad-Aware and cleaned all objects
Ran CWShredder and Cleaned all CoolWebSearch
Ran Trendmicro’s house call and deleted
TROJAN_AGENT.CK
TROJAN_AGENT.KT
TROJAN_AGENT.ABR
Ran AboutBuster and have a log file
Ran Spybot with the teatimer option and Destroyed All Problems

Also with Spybot I am receiving the following Accept/Deny warning

Spybot - System Startup Global Entry
c:\windows\d3vf.exe

I downloaded Firefox on his machine and informed him to use this browser when traversing the world of internet porn.
Installed McAfee Virus and Firewall protection.

After performing the above the machine is still running slow. Please look at the hijackthis file and determine if there are additional steps I need to take. Otherwise I am going to reformat his hard drive, reinstall XP etc…Any help is appreciated.

Hi welcome to TOM COYOTE FORUMS

You NEED a newer version of hijackthis. The current version is 1.99.1
Get it here
It is important that you get a newer version because some infections are not detected with a older hijackthis
HJT updates
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

Do you know what this file does?
C:\WINDOWS\d3vf.exe

If yes then please make a note in your next post
These may be hidden files. See here for how to show hidden files.
To check navigate to the file right click on the file and choose properties
Under the version tab, take a look at the company name and other information. If its blank or have some thing you never heard of then its likely to be bad.

After that scan with the new version of hijackthis and
POST a new log in this thread using 'Post Reply'
Lethal - Here is the latest hijack this. I had to disable McAfee to extract and install Hijackthis because McAfee found the W32/Generic.worm!p2p virus every time I tried extract. That seemed weird to me. On my other Machine McAfee did not pick up any virus.

Anyways, I deleted d3vf.exe. It had no tag information.

FYI -
netux32.exe did not exist - I searched the entire machine with Windows search and there was nothing
C:\WINDOWS\System32\w?wexec.exe did not exist but C:\WINDOWS\System32\wowexec.exe did - It was a valid windows file

I could not find rrup.exe…there was a similar program in C:\Windows\Prefetch - But I did not remove it.

Thanks!
Open Spybot S&D, click Mode>Advanced>Tools>Resident and remove the check from the Tea Timer box. You can reinstate it later but we don't want it interfering with what we need to do. Reboot when done.

You may want to print out these instructions or save them to your desktop as a text file with Notepad because we will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet.
  • Prepare CWShredder for use:
    • Download CWShredder.
    • Save CWShredder.exe to a convenient location.
    • Please do not do anything with it yet.
  • Prepare AboutBuster for use:
    • Download AboutBuster.
    • Unzip the contents of AboutBuster.zip and an AboutBuster directory will be created.
    • Navigate to the AboutBuster directory and double-click on AboutBuster.exe.
    • Click "OK" at the prompt with instructions.
    • Click "Update" and then "Check For Update" to begin the update process.
    • If any updates exist please download them by clicking "Download Update".
    • You should not run the program yet so click "Exit".
Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.
If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.
To return to normal mode just restart your computer as you normally would.
  • Run CWShredder:
    • Double-click on CWShredder.exe.
    • Click "Fix ->" and click "OK" at the prompt.
    • CWShredder will scan and clean your system of CWS files.
    • Click "Next->" and then "Exit".
  • Run AboutBuster and save the logs:
    • Browse to where you saved AboutBuster and run AboutBuster.exe.
    • Click "OK" at the directions Read: Important! prompt.
    • Click "Start" and then "OK" to allow AboutBuster to scan for Alternate Data Streams.
    • Click "Yes" at the About:Buster prompt to allow it to shutdown explorer.exe.
    • Please wait while AboutBuster scans your computer for malicious files. If it asks if you would like to do a second pass, allow it to do so.
    • When it has finished, click "Save Log…". Make sure you save it as I will need a copy of it.
    • Click "Exit" and "Exit" again to exit AboutBuster.
  • Clean out temporary files:
    • Start | Run | type cleanmgr | OK
    • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
    • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
    • Click "OK" to remove them.
    • Click "Yes" to confirm the deletion.
  • Restart your computer normally to return to normal mode.
  • Free TrendMicro Housecall scan:
    • Vist the TrendMicro Housecall website.
    • Select your country from the drop-down list and click "Go".
    • Choose "Yes" at the ActiveX Security Warning prompt.
    • Please wait while the Housecall engine is updated.
    • Select the drives to be scanned by placing a check in their respective boxes.
    • Check the "Auto Clean" box.
    • Click "SCAN" in order to begin scanning your system.
    • Please be patient while Housecall scans your system for malicious files.
    • If not auto-cleaned, remove anything it finds.
    • Click "Close" to exit the Housecall scanner.
    • Choose "Yes" at the HouseCall message prompt.
  • Prepare your reply:
    • Please post a fresh HijackThis log
    • Please post the AboutBuster log.
    • Please note any complications you had.

Lethal - A little confused here. Do you want me to append the Registry information together. In your previous post I also created a fixme.reg file, but did nothing with it. If I create this new one with the same name it saves over the previous fixme.reg? I am not asked to merge anything when I click on the fixme.reg file. I am promted to add fixme.reg to the registry Yes/No. Please clarify. P.S. when I run hijackthis in safe mode only two of the entries are there 02 and 023. None of the R1 or R0 are present. Please advise -
very sorry
some errors were made when i cut and paste
follow this post
the earlier fixme.reg can be deleted
and take note that this infection is very stubborn. takes a few fixes
its ok to leave out the lines if they are not around

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\*.frame.crazywinnings.com]
"http"=dword:00000004

Back on the Desktop, double-click on the fixme.reg file you just saved and click on Yes when asked to merge the information.

you may also want to consider uninstalling Security iGuard
"Spyware remover" of dubious repute, see this list of Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products & Web Sites
To uninstall
On the Windows XP taskbar:
Click Start > Control Panel.
In the Control Panel window, double-click Add or Remove Programs
then choose Security iGuard

after that reboot scan with hijackthis and post a new log for a final check
Lethal Here is the latest file. Security Guard was not listed in Add or Remove Programs. Any ideas?

Does not want to go away. Regardless, the machine is running smooth.
