Thanks for help,
Luv3xanite
Hello Luv3xanite, and welcome to the TomCoyote Forums. I will be helping you get your system cleaned up and protected. I am currently reviewing your HiJackThis log and will post back shortly. Thank you for your patience. Regards, Dave
Hello Luv3xanite,

We need to stop some processes from running so HJT can complete the fix.
Please open Task Manager with Ctrl-Alt-Del and and click on the Processes Tab. Select each of the following processes and click End Process for each:

C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\kxwyau.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Khiacs.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Nyolkm.exe

Now you can run HiJackThis. Check the boxes next to these items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL =
http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&t…lion&pf=desktop
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL =
http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&t…lion&pf=desktop
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar =
http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&t…lion&pf=desktop
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iUcOdP9Hy] C:\WINDOWS\kxwyau.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [version] C:\WINDOWS\system32\Khiacs.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [secure] C:\WINDOWS\system32\Nyolkm.exe

Now close all browser and explorer windows, and tell HijackThis to "Fix checked".

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Now boot the computer into safe mode:
*Restart the computer.
*As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*Press Enter.

Using Windows Explorer delete the following files and folders if present:

C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE<–file
C:\WINDOWS\kxwyau.exe<–file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Khiacs.exe<–file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Nyolkm.exe<–file

Navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY Listed Profile USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and post a new HJT log for review.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Luv3xanite,

Looking much better. How are things running? I would also like you to update and run Ad-Aware and see if it finds anything. Let it fix anything it finds and report back anything it does find.

The next 3 items can also be fixed with HJT if they are not your homepage.

Run HiJackThis. Check the boxes next to these items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL =
http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&t…lion&pf=desktop
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL =
http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&t…lion&pf=desktop
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar =
http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&t…lion&pf=desktop

Now close all browser and explorer windows, and tell HijackThis to "Fix checked". Then Reboot:

Post your findings, if any, and a new HJT log for review.

Regards,

Dave
Hi and thanks again! The system is running fine and hasn't been bad since I removed the majority of problems with other programs before posting here originally. I just never could get it totally clean which made me worry. I ran the Ad-Adware and it only found a few data miner tracking cookies. I guess this is normal though if you allow cookies? Hello Luv3xanite,

Congratulations, your system is clean. Here are a few tips to prevent malware from
infesting your computer in the future.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files, and malware often hides in these restore points. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected anyway).* To turn off System Restore:
* On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
* Click Properties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* Check Turn off System Restore.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.
* Reboot.

* Now turn System Restore back ON.
* On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
* Click Properties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* Un-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.
In addition to regularly updating and running your antivirus, Adaware, and Spybot S&D, I recommend also adding the following:
  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware
  • Install SpywareGuard - SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution against spyware that is a great addition to SpywareBlaster's protection method. You can download SpywareGuard Here
    A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found Here
  • This point cannot be stressed enough! - Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates
    you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
I recommend cleaning out your temporary internet files. CCleaner is a freeware
system optimisation tool for PCs. It removes unnecessary junk from your computer
allowing it to run more efficiently and securely. Please download CCleaner from
one of the two websites below:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html
http://www.ccleaner.com/

Install CCleaner. Now open and click on the Windows tab.
Check the following items:
Under Internet Explorer:* Temporary Internet Files
* History
* Recently Typed URLs
* Delete Index.dat files
Under System:* Empty Recycle Bin
* Temporary Files
* Memory Dumps
* Chkdsk File Fragments
* Old Prefetch Data
Next: click the Options button and then click the Settings tab
Uncheck: Only delete files older than 48 hrs. and click OK

Prior to running click on the Check for updates now… link
Then click the Run Cleaner button. It should only take a few seconds
to complete and exit when it is done.

Here is a link to an article written by Tony Klein, that
also gives some great advice on preventing further infection.

This is a great tutorial on Hardening IE.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Regards,

Dave
