Please help me I am new to this. I don't even know where to start. I have been having computer problems for a long time and have been reading alot on the internet and trying new thing to help fix my problems and so far everything is way better. Right now it seem like I pretty much have everything under control except speed, and a few pop-ups. I have been running and updating cw shredder, ad-aware, spybot, and avg on a every other day average. I can't seem to find anything else to fix so I am turning to the experts. If I post my hijackthis.log can you help me out and see what I need to do? And please tell me if there are any other programs I need to be running to keep this from ever happening again. In advance, thank you for all of your help.

Your new log is clean. :) I'll leave this thread open for a few days just in case any more problems arise.

I recommend going to the following link and update to SP2. This adds more security and extra features including a pop-up blocker for Internet Explorer.

Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer Updates

Now that everything is fixed, I suggest that you get these programs:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer.
SpywareGuard - Real-time protection from spyware installation attempts
ie-spyad - Puts over 8,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - Safer alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

AVG AntiVirus - Free antivirus program if you currently are not using one.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place"

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
alsocom,
:D Again I can't thank you enough for helping me with this log. My problem arose when I downloading SP2, my computer started running so slow that you couldn't stand to use it. When I tried to defrag the files were so fragmented after the download that even after defraging they were still completely fragmented. So I uninstalled it and still need to figure out what to do about cleaning up the fragmented files. I am already running AVG Anti-Virus, I also use CW Shredder, Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D. But I will check in to the programs that you have listed for me, and maybe after I get it defraged properly I can download SP2 again and have better luck.

I do have some questions for you after looking over my log.
What are these and are they needed?

I no longer use Symantec Norton Anti-Virus and it is uninstalled. Can these be deleted?

I uninstalled callwave over a year ago, so can these go?

 Those are the only things that catch my eye.

And as always, thank you!

I'm glad to hear the computer is working well for you.

Here is a great thread for information on installing SP2.

The 016 items that you mentioned are ActiveX entries and can be safely removed. If they are needed again, they will reinstall. :)
