Need help, can't get rid of a toolbar that's been added to IE, plus a popup toolbar that appears just above the taskbar, also getting adverts poping up, these do not appear to be getting blocked by the popup blocker.

Norton Anti virus reports nothing found, where as ad-wareSE reports 1 process related to lop i.e. zesnnrhu.exe although this varies.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello kennydoc, Beside the LOP toolbar you have another nasty virus. I wish to check to make sure my removal proceedures are correct for this item prior to posting your instructions. I will post as soon as this information has been cleared. Thanks…pskelley
Hello kennydoc, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. If you are still looking for help I will see what I can do. I like to tell members that the item responsible for this LOP infection has nothing to do with Microsoft or MSN Messenger. Thanks to Elrond for this fix.

You have a LOP infection that often comes together with Messenger Plus. To remove it we will try the simple way first.

1. Go to Add/Remove programs. Double click on "Messenger Plus!" (or click on Remove)

2. The "Messenger Plus! - Setup" is now displayed. Click on the Uninstall button. Note: options displayed on the first screen are not related to the sponsor program.

3. The sponsor screen is now displayed (if you don't see it, search for it in your Task Bar). To prove that someone is currently reading the screen, you have to type the code that is displayed. Once you enter the code, press Uninstall.

4. If you entered the code properly, the program will ask you to confirm that you want to uninstall. You must answer "Yes" to this question, else, you won't have another chance of uninstalling.

5. To complete the uninstallation, follow the instructions that are displayed (the first one is to close all your Internet Explorer windows, that's very important). When everything is complete, restart your computer and, hopefully voila one nasty infection is gone.

Once that is complete we have this item to contend with: Backdoor.Futro, I see you are running Symantec antivirus protection, follow the directions at the following Symantec site to remove this nasty. After you have removed it, I am going to give you a free online scan to run for a double check:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data…door.futro.html

http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co…n_principal.htm

Once this is complete, empty the recycle bin and restart the computer. Use ADD REPLY to stay in this sam thread, post a new log along with any comments you think we should have.
Thanks…pskelley

Hi pskelley, Thanks for the advice about lop, I dicovered today that my daughter had accepted the Messenger Plus upgrade and had installed by accepting the sponsors program, so I have now uninstalled it and great all the lop stuff has gone. As regards the Isass.exe, this appears to have come in on Saturday, how I don't know but I was getting the windows warning about an running an unsigned program, which I declined to do. I renamed the Isass.exe to KenIsass.exe and this stopped the windows message coming up. However prior to this a scan by Norton was not reporting this virus. Do I rename it back to its original name and retry Norton?

Do I rename it back to its original name and retry Norton?

I am not sure the effect of renaming a virus can have on it's ability to continue to infect your computer? I remove them, not rename them? I would say the best thing to do at this point is post a new log and let me look at it. I will be in a better position to offer advice once I have viewed a current logfile. There is probably more to be removed also, once I see a virus like that I make sure it is cleaned before I proceed with the final HJT cleanup.

Thanks…pskelley
Hi pskelley,

Latest hjt log as requested.

Can I just delete both the Isass.exe and the registry entry and that will be enough?.

Cheers.

OK Ken, Here is what I would like you to do. First you still have Messenger Plus installed. You will need to follow the instruction again until it is removed. I can not see a program that should be stopping you from uninstalling the Messenger plus, so let's go to Safe Mode and uninstall it from there. Here are instructions for entering Safe Mode if you need them: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html
Keep in mind the removal instructions for LOP might result in several of the items not being there when you look for them in the HJT removal list.

Use the instructions in the following link to enable hidden files for your Operating System:
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html While still in Safe Mode:

Open HijackThis and choose the SCAN button, then check the box in front of each line item:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT click on Start then click on Explore. Look for and delete these files or folders. Ken we are going to be in the area of an important Microsoft file called Local Security Authentication Server or C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe. The bad file tries to look like this VIP file and you must not make the mistake of removing the wrong one.

The one we are after looks like this: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Isass.exe with and i (in caps) be very careful. You may have to locate the file you renamed it to. Proceed with removing these files or folders:

(may not be there, if they are look to see what belongs to LOP and remove that part, do not remove any important folders)
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTING~1\kenny\APPLIC~1\CLOSEP~1\Remoteowns.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\readme tick junk admin\dupe boob.exe
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTING~1\kenny\APPLIC~1\LISTEL~1\KNOBCOAL.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\Isass.exe (the virus, remove the red when located)

Empty the recycle bin and restart, run clean manager and post a new log to see where we are. You comments will be appreciated.
Thanks…pskelley

Hi, I have uninstalled Messenger plus and reinstalled it without the sponors program that's why it still shows up. Why do we want to remove the eurodell stuff as its a dell computer?
Latest log having removed everything except the euro.dell entries.

How does it look now.

Cheers,

Kenny.

Hi Kenny, I assume you are going to run C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\MsgPlus.exe without the Sponsors which is perfectly ok. I removed the Dell pages (own a Dell 4550 myself :) ) because they led to the website and not any homepage of any kind. You can access the same page by typing Dell into your browser's search engine. Trying to clean up the browser a little for you.

My last look at your logfile shows this:
DPF: O16 - DPF: {41F17733-B041-4099-A042-B518BB6A408C} - http://a1540.g.akamai.net/7/1540/52/200312…meInstaller.exe does not identify, if you do not know what it is you may want to delete it. In fact, as I am sure you are aware, any of the 016 DPF lines can be removed and would be returned if you ever visit the sites that put them there in the first place. You did a great job, I see no evidence of any malware in the current log.

I will include some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and sace online. Good luck and safe surfing:
