Anyone,
I have tried everything and can't figure it out. I have run spybot, cwshredder, hijackthis (file below), mcafee virus scan, etc. and it keeps re-generating itself. I'm obvisously not catching the key files. I also ran Ad-awareSE and the VX2 cleaner. Cleaner runs good but the normal scan still shows the VX2 files. Please help…and thanks.

Anyone, I continue to fight this battle. I have tried everything including safe mode scans. There seem to be 4 files that refuse to be deleted in any way. They are… pugiiy.dll ktr4l79q1.dll gpj6l31s1.dll guard.temp All are in the System32 folder. If anyone has any thoughts, I would appreciate it. Steve
Hello dakid, Welcome to the TC.

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!
Hi, and thanks for the help. Log posted below. I see the files I couldn't do anything with showing up in this run as well. Appreciate your time and effort. Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Important: Do this before any fix.

Please put your HijackThis in it's own folder, (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT).
You can do a Right Click on any open area on the desktop, New> Folder, then rename the folder HJT.

Go to where your HijackThis is and Right Click on HijackThis.exe, select Cut, then open the new folder you just created (HJT) Right Click in the folder and select paste.

The reason we do this is Hijackthis creates backup files just in case you'd need to restore one and we'll be cleaning out the temp files.

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D373BA35-4219-FAC0-10EA-C2696D476431} - (no file)

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = D:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

1. Open My Computer
2. Right click on your hard drive that you wish to clean (C drive, for example)
3. In the context menu that opens, select properties
4. Under the general tab you should select Disk Cleanup
5. Windows will scan your drive which will take a few seconds/minutes
6. A box will display the various files you can remove.
Check all boxes except compress old files (If listed)
7. Click OK and windows will comply.

Restart your computer.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hello,
Performed all as you suggested and new HJT file is below after re-boot. Computer seems to be much better, however, I still get a desktop that is all black with an advertisement that says "Warning- you are in danger". Talks about how everything we do is recorded on our hard drive and wants to take me to a web site to fix it. I so see my normal desktop image briefly during boot-up and then again when I shut down. Thanks, Steve

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Back again,
Ran spybot. It found DSO Exploit, AvenueA Inc. , and elitum.Elitebar. Fixed all 3. Already had AdawareSE. Checked for updates. Made setting changes and then ran. Found 22 items. I couldn't see where the option was to save log. I checked all items and then hit finish. Re-booted. Then ran spybot again after reboot. DSO Exploit came up again. cleaned and re-ran. Came up again. Cleaned again. Ran AdawareSE again and came up clean. Here is latest HJT. Same desktop theme that I described before is still there. Thanks, Steve

This tool removes the ad from the desk top.

Then ran spybot again after reboot. DSO Exploit came up again.

That's just a bug in SpyBot.

I continue to fight this battle. I have tried everything including safe mode scans. There seem to be 4 files that refuse to be deleted in any way. They are…
pugiiy.dll
ktr4l79q1.dll
gpj6l31s1.dll
guard.temp

Are these still there?

Copy / paste a new HJT log.
Hello,
OK, desktop is now back and I have new file below. The only things I see as different is that I have to manually start the personal firewall and personal security center in McAfee(before they would start automatically at start-up). The files you asked about are no longer there. Thanks, Steve
