Hi Paul, Welcome back to TomCoyote forum. You need to fix your HJT.exe as it can't save backups and logs safely in the Temp folder you are running it from. If you want to run it from Docs and Settings, go there and right click on a blank spot, make a new folder, call it HJT and move the HJT.exe and any logs around there into that folder. Once this is done, delete the balance of the crap in the TEMP folder. NOT THE FOLDER just what is in it.

Please review the information about this item:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\FINDFAST.EXE
http://castlecops.com/startuplist-1227.html

You have WinPatrol running and it will stop you from making changes. You will need to turn it off to do this.
You may remove this if you no longer wish hp to set your homepage to hp.
O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://us8l.hpwis.com

And last, you are using an old version of HJT, update to 1.99 like this: "Config"=>"Misc Tools"=>"Check for updates online"

Post a new log so I can get a look at your Services area, let me know about the questions above. Please use Add Reply to stay in this thread. We will proceed with any removals after I view the new log.
Thanks…pskelley

My bad on starting a new topic! Wont do it again. I loaded H.J 1.99 and did a new scan… I think I took care of the findfast stuff in the right way? Killed the task..Is that right? also got rid of the hp homepage garbage. Heres a copy of the 1.99 scan..

Hi Paul, Thanks for helping us maintain a little organization, it does help, especially when preventing duplicated efforts.

I think I took care of the findfast stuff in the right way? Killed the task..Is that right?

No..if you wish this item removed, you must delete the file. It is still running on your computer and I will give you instructions for stopping that.

You did get the HJT.exe out of the temp situation, but as I see it, the HJT.exe is on the Desktop with no folder. If I am wrong in my observation let me know. Point at a blank spot on the Desktop and create a NEW FOLDER. Move the HJT.exe and any logs that are there into that folder. It will then look like this: C:\Documents and Settings\paul schaafsma\Desktop\HJT\HijackThis.exe.

Scan with HijackThis and check the follow line:

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Find Fast.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\FINDFAST.EXE

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windowes then click "Fix Checked"

RIGHT click on Start then click on Explore. Look for and delete this file:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\FINDFAST.EXE >>> file
Just the file in red, nothing else or you will be removing part of Office that is needed.

Paul, if you are thinking about SP2, here is some information that will be valuable. I would not download until you have reviewed this information and properly prepared your computer to accept SP2. If you have any questions, contact Microsoft.
SP2 CD

What you should know

You now have a clean log and I have some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay that way:

Ok Paul, I do not see the item, you may have created that log before you restarted the computer, but it does not appear in this log.

Is there any EASY WAY to update XP using firefox/mozilla? the update wont work using this browser, dayam micro-nuts!!

I would use the information link I provided to call or contact Microsoft and ask that question to them. I do not have that answer.

I downloaded the spyware stuff from mcrosoft-is it worth it?or shoud i delete it?
heres the latest log look better??

I can't comment on this product other than to suggest you search http://www.google.com/ for your answers and I can say that the software is still in the Beta stage.

I can say that your log is clean now and here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler that will help you to stay clean and safe online IF you read the information and follow the suggestions these folks make.
Good luck and safe surfing
