Thanks.

You have several infections, including a variant of About:Blank.

1 – Download FxAgentB.exe from here and save it to your desktop.

Note that you must close all windows other than the removal tool and disconnect from the internet when running this tool.

After downloading, double-click the FxAgentB file to run it and the program will scan your entire hard drive - this may take a while. When it is done, it will generate a log file called FxAgentB.log - save that information as you will need to paste it here later.

Run it once, then reboot and run it again.Save any logs it makes and post them into your next reply here.

Reboot when done.

2 – Download the stand-alone version of CWShredder from CWShredder from Intermute. After you download the program, unzip it into a directory.

Make sure all browser windows are closed and run cwshredder.exe to start the program and click on the FIX button (not the "Scan only" button) and let it scan your computer.

Reboot when done.

3 – Then click here to download Ad-Aware SE and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file. Click "Start", select "Perform Full System scan" and "Next" to start the scan. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".

4 – Run HijackThis, and press Scan, and put a check against the following entries, if they still show up. Make sure all browsers and program windows are closed except for HijackThis.

Once you have selected all the items for HJT to fix, and remember to make sure all browsers and program windows are closed except for HijackThis, then click fix checked.

5 – Reboot into Safe Mode (How do I boot into "Safe" mode?), then use Windows Explorer to delete the following lists of program files and folders, if they still exist.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\aaambc.dll <– this file

C:\WINDOWS\System32\vbsys.dll <– this file

c:\ied_s7m.cab <– this file

c:\x.cab <– this file

Please let me know about any problems with the file/folder deletes.

6 – Reboot when done, rescan with HijackThis and post a new log here, together with the FxAgentB log. I will follow up with the next instructions after reviewing those logs.

Thanks

Thanks.

The malware appears to be gone. Nice work on that :)

I have a question about your use of proxy server. So you know why this entry is in effect?

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:5400

What program is using that port?

There is an optional entry in you HJT log taht you may choose to fix:

Run HijackThis, and press Scan, and put a check against the following entries, if they still show up. Make sure all browsers and program windows are closed except for HijackThis.

O4 - Startup: Office Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA.EXE

Once you have selected all the items for HJT to fix, and remember to make sure all browsers and program windows are closed except for HijackThis, then click fix checked.

And, please allow me to suggest some general prevention steps to keep one's computer clean and secure. You have already taken a few of the steps, but it never hurts to take a quick look :)

1 – Be sure you update your anti-virus software at least once a week. There are several very good free programs available. Grinler offers an outstanding overview at Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

2 – To reduce re-infection potential for malware in the future, I strongly recommend installing three free programs: SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, and IE/Spyad.

3 – Use AdAware SE and Spybot S&D; to regularly to scan your system.

4 – Continue to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.

5 – I strongly recommend that you consider using a Firewall. Just by using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. Check out what Lawrence Abrams has to say at Understanding and Using Firewalls

If there are qeustions about that proxy server entry, a firewall can help by monitoring for outgoing traffic via the port I asked about.

An excellent overview is: So how did I get infected in the first place?. Be sure to visit the browser test link at the end of the article to really see how secure your system is!!

Thanks
