Hello mrjoyce , Welcome to the TC.

This is what I suggest you do.

Download CWShredder from my signature below. Unzip it on the desktop.
Open CWShredder and with ALL other windows closed, click fix.

Go here and run at least one of the online scans, allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.

Next:

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.3 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.05 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Scanning With Ad-Aware SE :

1. Download and Install Ad-Aware SE, keeping the default options. However, some of the settings will need to be changed before your first scan

2.Close ALL windows except Ad-Aware SE

3. Click on the‘world’ icon at the top right of the Ad-Aware SE window and let AdAware SE update the reference list for the adware and malware.

4. Once the update is finished click on the ‘Gear’ icon (second from the left at the top of the window) to access the preferences/settings window

1) In the ‘General’ window make sure the following are selected in green:
*Automatically save log-file
*Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
*Safe Mode (always request confirmation)

Under Definitions:
*Prompt to udate outdated definitions - set the number of days

2) Click on the ‘Scanning’ button on the left and select in green :

Under Driver, Folders & Files:
*Scan Within Archives

Under Select drives & folders to scan -
*choose all hard drives

Under Memory & Registry: all green
*Scan Active Processes
*Scan Registry
*Deep Scan Registry
*Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
*Scan my Hosts file

3) Click on the ‘Advanced’ button on the left and select in green:

Under Shell Integration:
*Move deleted files to recycle bin

Under Logfile Detail Level: (all green)
*include addtional object information
*DESELECT - include negligible objects information
*include environment information

Under Alternate Data Streams:
*Don't log streams smaller than 0 bytes
*Don't log ADS with the following names: CA_INOCULATEIT

4) Click the ‘Tweak’ button and select in green:

Under the ‘Scanning Engine’:
*Unload recognized processes during scanning
*Scan registry for all users instead of current user only

Under the ‘Cleaning Engine’:
*Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

Under the Log Files:
*Include basic Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
*Include additional Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
*Please do not check or make green: Include Module list in logfile

5. Click on ‘Proceed’ to save the settings.

6. Click ‘Start’

*Choose:'Perform Full System Scan'
*DESELECT "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.

7. Click ‘Next’ and Ad-Aware SE will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected and clean automatically.

8. If Ad-Aware SE finds bad entries, you will receive a list of what it found in the window

9. Save the log file when it asks and then click ‘finish’

10. REBOOT to complete the removal of what Ad-Aware SE found

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Ok, I work nights so I am not able to perform anything till tommorrow. But, here is what is going on…. I have Broadband cable, (Roadrunner) about 50% of the time when I turn on, the home page has been changed. About 50% of the time< (after I restore my home page), my server cannot be found and it times out. I get all sorts of pop-ups and just close them immediately. Sometimes, (about 6 times in six months), I come home and my computer has turned itself on and the inter net is open. I can never find andything open except for what seem to be pop ups. so I just close it all and reboot. My computer is still working fine when not connected to the internet. What I have done… I did a system restore back as far as it would let me. NO help. I uninstalled weather bug. I ran a log with Hijack this and fixed a few things that were obviously wrong. (multiple incorrect homepages etc.) Then I wrote here…. Thanks for all your help. I will get back on in a day or so after I perform all of the above.
Ok, it took me a while but here is my new log…. Thanks again.
Patiently waiting.

I just tried using the internet again…. little better in that my home page did not get changed and there were no popups. But…. My connection is still slow, (about half the time), and nonexistent (about 25% of the time…) I went under the internet tools to check to see what my connection was and it is not there…. How am I connecting at all??? Tools/internet options/connections. the window is blank. Obviously I am still connecting on some level but it is very inconsistent. Thanks again.
More problems…. I went to MSN to try and watch their videos, (youknow, news and such), and I got this message saying that I had to connect to the internet or install the item that contains the media item I am trying to view…. Something like that. any ideas? My default is windows media player.
I just tried media player without connecting… anything that is stored on my computer is fine.. when I go to the media guide or radio guide it again shows no connection….. I am going to stop for a while. Still no homepage change and no pop ups! This is better. I look forward to your next bit of advice. I was about to buy a new computer…
I suggest you do this:

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these.

ALL 016's. They'll come back if needed,

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
I usually delete all my temp files after using the internet, (something my father in law said was a good idea.) Is this a good idea every time or can I do it once in a while? also, what about doing taxes online at this point? I use the online sites for downloading Turbo Tax and just do them online… is this a bad idea? Should I buy a real copy of turbo tax and just do it offline? Again, Thank YOU!
Computer still seems fine but slow on the internet. Windows media still will not work. Thanks again….

I updated windows media player to version 10 and still nothing…. no internet video. I am concerned about my computer not getting back to where it should be without doing a complete restore and I am not sure that I have that disk anymore….
Ok, I went back to where I was before starting this morning cause something caused me to lose the internet completely….
So, here is my latest logfile….
