My system is slowed down. When I click on a link for a browser the first time I usually get the error message that says "Alert www.WhateverTheWebPageIs.xxx could not be found. Please check the name and try again." Usually clicking on it the second time the webpage will come up. I am using FireFox.

I am running SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard. I ran Trojan Hunter, AdAware, Spybot S&D, my virus scanner and an online scan with Panda Software, CW Shredder and AboutBuster.

Here is my HiJack This log:
In this HJT log there are several 016 class entries that are not complete due to some repairs that were tried a long time back. I went back to an old log to look at what they were when complete and appended that on the end for whoever looks at it to see in they are interested.

Hello jimeee, welcome to the forum. Sorry about the delay in responding :( If you still need help, Scan again with HijackThis, and copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
LDTate. Thank you for responding. I am looking forward to your help and getting this mess cleared up. Thank you for your help.

I have since the time of the original posting kept on plugging along trying to find spyware, virus's and trojans by using different APPS although I had done all of that checking before the original post. I have lost track, but I had found some trojans and maybe even a virus or two that I didn't find at first.

I think my speed is up some or otherwise things are working better but I am still plagued by the Alert message that I spoke of. And I am sure there is something buried deep in my computer that I am not getting out because there are too many things going on that just don't seem kosher.

I just did fresh scans tonight before making the HiJack This log with X-Cleaner, TrojanHunter, Ad-Aware and other software. I had cleaned everything out when I posted the HiJackThis file originally but I am finding things again tonight in my scans. I can't believe it. Stuff just keeps on coming…haha… I was thinking I was being extra careful of where I broused too.

1.X-Cleaner found "trojan.win32ftpattack" in C:/Windows/CREATOR
2.TrojanHunter found nothing.
3.Ad-Aware found 3 interations of "BroadCastPC" in C:/Documents and Settings/Owner/Local Settings/Temp that they called "Critical Objects.
4.Spybot S&D found no "immediate threats."
5.CWShredder no coolweb problems found.
6. TrendMicro online scan found JAVA OPENSTR-A but couldn't access it to delete it. I deleted it myself (I think…haha…)
7.PestPatrol shows 68 entries in my registry for a Hijacker called ISTbar. I went to Symantec where they had a tool that was supposed to remove ISTbar but when it did it's scan it said I didn't have ISTbar. Maybe I don't but I still have 68 entries in my registry that are from ISTbar…haha…

Anyway I have spent hours doing these scans trying to find all of the junk I can and get rid of it. I will do a new HijackThis scan and post it below. I don’t think I will shut off my computer tonight thinking that when I boot up again I will have a whole bunch of junk again…haha…

This paragraph somehow got left out of my previous post:

Although I am using the FireFox Browser primarily once in a while I have to use Internet Explorer because some things just don't work in FireFox. Unless I have Super Adblocker running when I bring up Internet Explorer I see that down at the bottom in the taskbar where it shows programs that are running it shows two iterations or IE are running. What I show here is what comes up other than the normal IE page. Although when I click on it no page will come up on the desktop and this is the what it shows when I hover my mouse over it.

I suggest you do this:

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these.

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.refdesk.com/

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\System\panels\blank.htm

ALL 016's. They'll come back if needed,

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
I looked at the log and felt the same way as you do about it, that is I thought it looked good. I think my speed is up to okay. However I am still having the same Alert problem that I talked about in the beginning and that may possibly some how have something to do with the DNS server or something related to my Hosts. For some reason or rather I feel there is still something buried deep in my computer that hasn't surfaced yet. I can't put my finger on why I am saying that except to say some things seem strange. Maybe some virus or Trojan has already done some kind of damage that we are unable to put our finger on. Anyway… Secondly I thank you very much for your kind help as it is much appreciated. I run all of the programs you mentioned and I normally do weekly maintenance. I am using Avast Antivirus and ZoneAlarm both in the free versions. I notice you offered a free one of each of those. Are they something that you think I would be better off to switch to? I used to have an Antivirus program that I paid for, for several years, but just didn't feel like it did all of that good of a job. It seems like most of my virus's were and still are discovered with online scans rather than by my installed antivirus program whichever one it may be. When doing my weekly maintenance I usually do an online scan from Pandasoftware and RAV antivirus. According to Pest Patrol I still have 68 entries in my registry related to ISTbar that I sure would like to get out of there… I use Ace Utilities and Registry First Aid to keep my registry cleaned up but neither will seem to clean the ISTbar stuff out of there. I suppose I will have to go in and clean those out by hand but am not sure that I want to undertake that task. I am hesitant to get rid of my restore points with the thought in mind that maybe I could restore to some point before all of this happened. But if you really think I should do that I will. Then another strange thing has happened to a folder in "MY PICTURES" folder. Instead of being C:\MY C PICTURES\Jimmy\TorqueFreaks work\PC280028 it has changed into C:\MY C PICTURES\Jimmy\TorqueFreaks work\PC280028\Copy of PC280028\Copy of PC280028\Copy of PC280028\Copy of PC280028\Copy of PC280028\Copy of PC280028\Copy of PC280028\Copy of PC280028\Copy of PC280028\Copy of PC280028\PC280028\PC280028\PC280028\PC280028\PC280028 and I am unable to access it or delete it or anything. Since I can't access it I would like to at least delete it if someone could help me to do that. Of course that is probably beyond the scope of what this particular forum is all about. I don't know if this was caused by some spyware or what??? I am very concerned that the people who are doing this spyware/malware kind of damage to our computers are just ruining the Internet for the average person. Again thank you so much for your help. You people at these forums doing the kind of work you all do are really helping us lessors… YOU ARE THE GREATEST!!! :D :D :D jim
Well lets see if we can find any hidden dll's.

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!
Sorry LD that I didn't get to this sooner. I did what you wanted and here is the log. Also wanted you to know that I did not shut off the "Restore" yet as you suggested previously because after my comment about being a little apprehensive about doing that at this time you did not tell me to go ahead and do it. Anyway here is the log and thanks again for all of your help. Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!
Good Morning LD:

Here are the two log files you requested.

I just got this warning that says it is a Mozilla Firefox warning. I am thinking that I shouldn't click on it until I check with you. I have never seen a FireFox message like this before.

I hope this picture thing works okay. EDIT: The first try didn't work. Maybe this one will.
