Hi there, I would very much appreciate any help that can be given to me. My main problems are that I have the virus Trojan.StartPage and CoolWeb Search.

The former I cannot remove as its a bit complicated for my limited computer competence, and the latter just won't go away when its allegedly deleted.

Here is my log:

Hello doz_magic_man , Welcome to the TC.

If this turns into About Blank, I'll need to hand this over to one of our experienced AB Warriors.

This is what I suggest you do.

Download CWShredder from my signature below. Unzip it on the desktop.
Open CWShredder and with ALL other windows closed, click fix.

Go here and run online scans (all), allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.

Next:

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.3 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.05 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode check Perform full system scan.
Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.
Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
The effects on my computer are an irritating amount of pop-ups when I open Internet Explorer, followed by many of the same at various points whilst Im online.

My computer is running a bit slower but nothing too significant.

The main thing is that my home page is jammed as http://win-eto.com/hp.htm?id=9, and this page overrides every window I open including MSN today.

I've ran all of the aforementioned programmes and these are the files that won't budge:

Win32.Startpage.JY
Win32.Mutters.c
TROJ_KREPPER.AE
Trojan.StartPage

Hijack this claimed I had no CoolWeb Search programmes on my computer however Adaware keeps finding CWS files, which it deletes but always reappear.

Im reluctant to reinstall Windows XP so any further advice would be much appreciated.
Empty Recycle Bin If you haven't rebooted: Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
This is my latest scan.

I cannot stress enough that I have tried everything and nothing works. Adaware keeps finding CoolWeb Search yet the shredder claims there is none on my computer.

My computer is now running slower than before. Everytime I log on the page is jammed as this search page, various pop-ups come up, and Im now getting warnings of a Trojan.Regger from Norton, in addition to the Trojan.StartPage thingy.

Its really getting on my nerves now so any help would be much appreciated.

I'm at work right now so it'll be another 6-7 hrs before I can post. There's still alot we need to cleanup. So hang in there and we'll get it done
I suggest you do this:

Restart your computer in Safe Mode.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

Run HijackThis again and put a check by these.

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

I've done everything you've said, but as you can see a couple of files keep reappearing, such as the dll.dll.dll.dll…. one.

It simply says "file in use" and stuff likethat.

They seem to be the primary root of all my problems, and cause the other things to appear. Its a ###### of a virus!
Be sure that all windows are closed. Click on START-> RUN. Copy paste the following as it is and click OK.

regsvr32.exe /U mdipzkdzssyxemdll.dll

You should get a message that it has been uninstalled succesfully.
Then be sure that all windows are still closed. Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, just start the program button. .Put a check mark on these entries.Hit FIX CHEKED button.

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: mdipzkdzssyxemdll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll

Serach for and delete mdipzkdzssyxemdll.dll

If that didn't get rid of it, try it in Safe Mode.

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment
Ok, I did everything you said, but even in Safe Mode it still won't go!!

My computer is behaving the same.
