Hi Leanne, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. I will not kid you, you have a load of nasty adware and trojan/virus junk on your computer. I will help you remove it if you will do your best to follow my directions. If I give a direction you do not understand, please post the question. It would be best to do this as soon as possible, and not let any time go by. I will respond as fast as I can once you post
a new log. Thanks.

1) Your HijackThis.exe is still in a temporary file and during the cleaning process the backups and logs will be lost. This is where it is now:
C:\Documents and Settings\Leanne Sammartino\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for hijackthis[1].zip\HijackThis.exe
Please use the information here: http://russelltexas.com/malware/faqhijackthis.htm Create a safe folder say: C:\HJT\ and move the HijackThis.exe into that folder. Delete any version left in the Temp folder.

2) Once the HJT.exe is safe in a folder, then we must roll out the BIG GUNS to blast this garbage, follow these directions:
We need to run our big guns for cleaning out malware. Ad-aware and Spybot can get the areas we can't reach with the HJT tool. I am going to give you links to tutorials and it is important that you take the time to review the information, then to download, update, configure exactly as in the tutorials and remove what is suggested in the tutorials. Make notes of anything these two programs can't remove, the exact name and location of the item. Run Spybot first, if you receive any DSO Exploit notifications, ignore them and please do not activate TeaTimer at this time, once you are clean you may activate it. If Spybot removes anything reboot before running Ad-aware SE Personal.
Spybot:

Ad-aware:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial48.html

3) Now I want you to use these free online scans to kill the trojans, set them to clean/fix and remember we need the complete name and location of anything the scans locate but can't kill. If either scan fails to work, post the information and I will supply another.
Please also mention what each scan does, this will help me assess what scans to use in the future.
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co…n_principal.htm

4) Keep a record of information from all four scans and post about anything that could not be removed along with the next log.
Clean Like this: Start, Run type "cleanmgr" without the quotes then ok. Check and remove anything windows locates. Empty the recycle bin and restart the computer. Use the following two links to stay in this thread. Post a new log along with information from the scans and any comments you have for us. There will be more to do.
When replying to your topic, please use the
http://forums.tomcoyote.org/style_images/1/t_reply.gif
button NOT the
http://forums.tomcoyote.org/style_images/1/t_new.gif
button.
Thanks…pskelley

when i run the
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/

it x's out of the webpage everytime, im not sure if that means its done or if something is wrong. do you know why?
Hi Leanne, If you have completed the first two scans, see if you can run the Panda scan, remove anything it finds, then post a new log, I am interested in what Ad-aware and Spybot removed and the results of the Panda scan. I am not sure why the first online scan won't run. Bad stuff sometimes causes problems with the spyware tools. Get the new log to me after Panda and I will see how we are doing. We will have more to do with HijackThis. I know what and where this junk is, and I was hoping the tools would clean some of it. They do a better job if they will run. We will defeat this junk. You and me. :D Thanks…pskelley
heres my new log after trying to run the 4 scans you sent me:

it still looks like im having alot of problems
Well Leanne, The first thing we must do is get your HijackThis.exe in a safe permanent folder. It now looks like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\Leanne Sammartino\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Directory 2 for hijackthis[1].zip\HijackThis.exe
If you want to keep it in Documents and Settings, do this: Go there and open a new folder by right clicking on a blank spot then choosing New then Folder. Call it HJT. Move the HijackThis.exe into that folder. This must be done before you proceed as we need the folder to store backups and logfiles we create for safety. Here is link to information if it helps:
http://russelltexas.com/malware/faqhijackthis.htm It is very important that you do this before you proceed.

Now the work begins, the first issue we have to handle is TeaTimer.

please do not activate TeaTimer at this time, once you are clean you may activate it.

I was careful to ask you NOT to activate it until you are cleaned up, but you have done so and it must be turned off as it will not let us make the changes we need to make. You may be able to turn it off at the clock if it is there by right clicking and choosing exit. If not, you will need to use the instructions in this link to turn it off while we remove the bad stuff.
http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm
I will be highliting items in red for you to read and sometimes you will need to make a decision. If there are no instructions the red is point out something.

We will be removing an item that is pretending to be a valid item. This is very, very important.this is the BAD item, look at the spelling carefully: l?ass.exe. We will remove only the one spelled with the ? after the l and before the ass. The GOOD ONE looks like this: C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe, no ? look closely at the spelling and be very careful NOT to remove the good one.

First we must stop running processes on the bad items. Open Task Manager (Ctrl, Alt, Delete at the same time) Look under the Processes Tab for any of these items, if you find them, highlite with one click and end process on each one if there:
Ares
Ares.exe
l?ass.exe (watch the spelling)
eetu.exe
Admilli Service
AdmilliServ.exe

Now use the link below and enable hidden files for your Operating System, the bad guys try to hide them from us.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

We may need to use the Safe Mode, I will try once without it and give you the link if it necessary.

Open HijackThis and click on SCAN, put a check in front of each of these line items, be very careful, these are the bad ones, do not check a good one.

(You may leave either of the first two if you use Dell or Yahoo, if they are not your homepage, remove them)

Close all programs but HJT an all browser windows then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT click on Start, then click on Explore. In the tree that opens, locate each of these files or folders and delete them:

C:\Documents and Settings\Leanne Sammartino\Application Data\eetu.exe >> file

C:\Program Files\Admilli Service\ >> folder

C:\Program Files\Ares\ >> folder

C:\WINDOWS\System32\l?ass.exe >> file (be very careful with the spelling. the good one is there also and you must not delete the good one)

Look back at the example above to be sure.

Clean Like this: Start, Run type "cleanmgr" without the quotes then ok. Check and remove anything windows locates.

Empty the recycle bin and restart the computer. Post a new log, please include any comment you have. We will take a look at that point to see what is left to do.

Thanks…pskelley

I ran the Panda Active Scan-scanned 192,505 files 24 messages no viruses were found. I ran the Trojan Scan after the Panda Scan and it x'd out again. What should I do next? Should I continue on to step 4 (clean like this)? Also, I haven't run teatimer yet. Thanks!
Hi Leanne, If one of the scans did not work, continue to the end of the last thread I posted on: Jan 29 2005, 12:54 AM. I wish to point out that TeaTimer does not run, it blocks changes from being made on your computer. This is why I said not to activate it during this process. If you did activate it you will need to exit TT near the clock if is there or turn it off according to these instructions: http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm The items you must remove will not be allowed by TT if you did activate it.
When all instructions in the last post are completed, including the very important one of putting HijackThis in a permantant folder, then post a new log for me. I do appreciate you stopping to check with me, always stop and send me a question if you are unsure of anything.

Thanks…pskelley

Hi Pskelley,
I finished all but the disk cleanup…my computer will not run this it just sits idle on scanning: compress old files. This has been a problem for months.

I could not find the C:\WINDOWS\System32\l?ass.exe>> file….I did find a LSASS and a lsass (that one looks like 3 building blocks lettered m f c. I didn't do anything with them since there was no ? in either.

Here is the new log:

Thank you for all your help.
Hi Leanne, Everything is going along well, and you are doing a great job. Thanks for making the HijackThis.exe safe in it's folder. It will put backups and store the logs you make in there. Before I turn you loose I will show you how to use Safe Mode to do your maintenance, like Scandisk and Defrag. Make sure I do this.

I could not find the C:\WINDOWS\System32\l?ass.exe>> file….I did find a LSASS and a lsass (that one looks like 3 building blocks lettered m f c. I didn't do anything with them since there was no ? in either.

You did the right thing, you followed the directions. Some times removing with HJT takes out files, etc. so they are not there when we look for them. I like to check to be sure all bad stuff is gone from your computer.

I do also see cleanmgr running in the log: C:\WINDOWS\System32\cleanmgr.exe, that should stop when you restart.

OK, Just a couple more and I think we will have it. I do not see TeaTimer, you must turn it off to make this fix with HJT, but then turn it back on, it is a very good program that will help to protect you. I will have other programs that are also freeware when we are finished.

Open HijackThis and Scan, then check these two baddies:

O2 - BHO: Helper Class - {D80C4E21-C346-4E21-8E64-20746AA20AEB} - C:\Program Files\NavExcel Search Toolbar\NavExcelBar.dll

O3 - Toolbar: NavExcel Toolbar - {5AA06644-BC46-4220-A460-47A6EB47C96D} - C:\Program Files\NavExcel Search Toolbar\NavExcelBar.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows and click on "Fix Checked"

Empty the recycle bin and restart the computer. Please surf a while to see how the computer is running. Sounds like it needs a good maintenance and I will show you how to do this as soon as I am sure all badware has been defeated.
Post a new log and I will see where we are, thanks…pskelley
the computer has been running fine & heres the latest log:

Hi Leanne (this is Leanne isn't it?) :P You don't want to let this much time go by. Once we are clean I need to get information to you to keep you clean. We do have a little more to do, but I am going to give you that information. Please review it and use the advice to keep your computer clean.

We still have a little issue with your HijackThis.exe. Look at it: C:\Program Files\HijackThis.exe What I want you to do is go to it in Program files. Point the mouse to a blank spot and RIGHT click on the mouse. Choose NEW then FOLDER. Name that folder HJT. move the HJT.exe into that folder. If there are logs around there from earlier move them in to the folder also. Then it will look like this: C:\Program Files\HJT\HijackThis.exe.

We missed one, I want you to Scan with HJT and check this item:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D80C4E21-C346-4E21-8E64-20746AA20AEB} - (no file)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows then click on "Fix Checked"

Now I want to tell you again what a great job you did sticking with the complicated computer cleanup. You should give yourself a big pat on the back. Now that we have it clean, let me show you how to keep it that way. I am going to give you great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help stay clean and safe online. You must read the information and apply what they say. Here is that information:

I suggest that you have at least this installed on the computer. Remember to update them often.
Avtivirus and Firewall
Ad-aware and Spybot
SpywareBlaster and
SpywareGuard and
IE-Spyad

If and when you decide to install SP2, you will need this information:
SP2 CD
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa…us/default.mspx
What you should know
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/sp2_whattoknow.mspx

And my advice to you is that you have way too many programs running on your computer that you may not even know you have or that you do not use. Some are running at startup and do not need to. Here are four links that will help you find out what is there that you should consider removing or stopping from running at startup. You can use the HJT log to see the names and these links to investigate. This will take some time and effort, but a much better running computer will result. So you will know, IF you are not sure about something, leave it alone. Last…if you remove the last item above for us, then you will be clean and I do not need to see another log unless you wish to post one. Thanks for all your help. Good luck and safe surfing. :)
