My IE browser has slowed to a fristrating slow rate. Copied below is my HiJackThis log. Any help would be very much appreciated. This happened once before and this helped me find the problem.

Many Thanks! :)

Hello ldscjpcat , Welcome to the TC.

Important: Do this before any fix.

You need to update your version of HijackThis. Open HJT> Config> Misc Tools> Check for update online. If that doesn't work, download it from my signature and remove the hijackThis.exe you have now.

Also please put your HijackThis in it's own folder, (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT).
You can do a Right Click on any open area on the desktop, New> Folder, then rename the folder HJT.

Go to where your HijackThis is and Right Click on HijackThis.exe, select Cut, then open the new folder you just created (HJT) Right Click in the folder and select paste.

After the above:

This is what I suggest you do.

Download CWShredder from my signature below. Unzip it on the desktop.
Open CWShredder and with ALL other windows closed, click fix.

Next:

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.3 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.05 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode check Perform full system scan.
Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.
Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Go here and run online scans (all), allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Okay, ran CWShredder. It found nothing present but fix deleted five items from zip drive. A little confusing because there is no disk in my zip drive. Ran Spy Bot. It deleted 19 items which largely seemed related to another spyware program I had downloaded. Same for Ad Aware- nothing special there. I then ran the Trend Micro and CA scans. (Panda would not run- would see a page that would start to open and close right away or nothing would open.). Both CA andMicro Trend found a trojan called WINTRIM.AE. Couldn't find it in their database. Had to be deleted. As I couldn't run Panda, I then ran Trend Micro again and NAV. NAV didn't find it. Trend Micro found it in another location that didn't show up the first time. Tried looking it up through Symantex but apparently lots of people were trying to access the same database- so couldn't learn more.

Below is the latest HJT log with the 1.99 version. As an aside and I understand you may not know- SVCHOST.EXE appears 7 times, 5 in a row- couldn't figure out why it appeared more than once. Also can't figure out what GEAR Security is- I couldn't figure out what program it relates to.

Continued Thanks

ALL 016's. They'll come back if needed,

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Will do, and thanks for the patience. May have to do this tomorrow. Isn't there a way to disable AdAware rather than uninstalling it? I can't seem to find WINTRIM.AE trogan anywhere. Have you heard of it? Thanks!!!

Isn't there a way to disable AdAware rather than uninstalling it?

We need to uninstall Ad-Watch, not all of Ad-Aware.

I can't seem to find WINTRIM.AE trogan anywhere. Have you heard of it?

Nope, but there many virus's out there.

Will wait for your post.
Appreciate your patience. Have now DOne the following:

1, Unistalled AdAware.
2. Run the virus scan that led to WINTRIM.AE. Deleted it- worked this time.
3. Deleted items as you suggested, including temp file contents ion safe mode.
4. The new HJT log follows.

Thus far browser seems better but have only used it to get to here.

Thanks

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
Thanks for the help, am adding the additional spyware programs. Two last questions: 1) You recommended youre anti virus program. I am using NAV and do keep it up to date on definitions. Will they interfere with one another or any issues to know about. 2) My browser still loads pages very slowly, especially if they have images on them. Any further thoughts? I know that wasn't the case a while ago. Thanks!
