Hi,
I would greatly appreciate help getting my desktop Win XP Home CPU to run IE6, Firefox 1.0 and Outlook 2003, which have been disable by spyware or something. I'm limping along on a 9-year old laptop with a 14.4 modem until the desktop is functional again. I've run Ad Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy on the desktop, but they were last updated around Nov 2004 since the desktop can't access the internet. Below is the log from Hijack This. Thank you in advance.
Ned

Hello again Ned. After reviewing your log you'll be glad to know I do not see any indication of viruses or malware. Congratulations! Unfortunately, this does not help to resolve your connection issues.

To begin with, did the connection problems start after any particular software installation or operating system update? Was ther any significant change like the addition of new hardware prior to this happening?

Have you checked the Windows Firewall settings to see if the firewall is blocking internet traffic?

Have you contacted your ISP about these problems? What did they recommend?

There are many good sites on the net to help with connection and other pc issues. Pcpitstop has a Connection forum on their board or, since you have a Dell you might try Dell's Support Forums. Tell them that you have checked here and and that you have no virus or malware issues.

Here are the links:

Please feel free to post back here with any other questions you might have.

Chin Up!

Hello OT, Thank you for your attention to my problem. It is reassuring to know that there wasn't any virus or malware. I just installed and ran both McAfee anyspyware and the Microsoft antispyware beta, and both programs found items that neither AdAware nor Search/Destroy found. False positives? Probably. But I'm happy to report that my computer is functioning again. I'll check out the forums you listed to see if other users had the same or similar problems recently. Thanks again, Ned
