:rant2: Grrrrrr!!!!

Hello…my 1st post to this forum. HELP, HELP, please! Yes I have firewalls, security on my laptop, but still got this awful Combo browser hijacker/Trojan! When my browser page loads it gets hijacked to "about:blank" - and I can't access my Yahoo email. I have researched it extensively on the internet in order to identify it. And….have used: Norton Anti-Virus, AdAware, Spybot, Xoftspy, CWS Shredder, Microsoft's new Beta, AntiSpyware download, Trojan remover, and some other recommended programs I can't remember!

I even turned off System Restore (Win XP) and scanned in Safe Mode! I read an article that said the newer "nasty" varients can't be removed by an automated process!!

They identify it and remove it…and it reloads on reboot!! I suspect this is the Trojan "part". I am a moderately advanced computer geekess, but not comfortable editing registry files. The web info says it's a VERY nasty, difficult to get rid of Malware due to contantly changing new varients. I CAN CONFIRM THIS!

Soooo, I just scanned with HJT and here is my log file. ANY help will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!! :D

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

I suggest you do this:

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these.

O23 - Service: WLTRYSVC - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\System32\WLTRYSVC.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\bcmwltry.exe (file missing

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi, me again B)

OK…..I deleted the registry entry and did as you requested. No more browser hijacks and I can access my Yahoo email now. So far everything else seems "normal" except my computer still seems a bit "sluggish". I'll run defrag and see if this helps. No popups either……Thanks so much for all your help so far!! Here is the new log file:

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
Hi, Thank you ever so much!! I genuinely appreciate the time you put in to do this - not to mention your expertise! I have Norton Internet Security, but am adding Zone Alarm - which I have on my other two computers. And I have Norton Anti-virus. I usually run Spybot every night before I shut my computer down (and yes, I keep it updated) but interestingly, it did not catch this one. AdAware caught it and said it removed it, but it always came back on reboot. In fact….I removed it quite a few times - and it came back….before I found your forum!! I have the paid version of Xoftspy and it identified it ass the CWS/Trojan Combo….and said it removed it….but it still, came back on reboot! I will check out the other programs you recommended, as the newer versions of this Browser hijacker/Trojan (so I read) are particularily malicious and notoriously impossible to remove with automated programs!!! *NOTE* For anyone reading this….please follow this forum's moderator's intsructions carefully! They helped me successfully remove this nasty Malware/Trojan!! THANK YOU! arcticfox1  :D
Glad we could help.
