Hello delwarren , welcome to the TC.

This is what I suggest you do.

Download CWShredder from my signature below. Unzip it on the desktop.
Open CWShredder and with ALL other windows closed, click fix.

Go here and run online scans (all), allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.

Next:

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.3 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.05 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode check Perform full system scan.
Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.
Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
I downloaded cwshreder and ran it. It came up clean.

Next: tried to execute the download from trendmicro housecall. It was asking for the location of my netscape drivers… I have no clue where… I am running windows XP home edition. I could not run that scan.

I ran etrust antivirus: no virus were found.

I ran panda activescan: no virus were found.

I checked for updates and ran spybot S&D:
It came up with 5 hits all under the heading DSO Exploit in (RED).
I hit the fix button. 5 problems were fixed.
(this DSO Exploit has been removed 6 times now)

I checked for updates and ran Adaware SE: Nothing was found.

Nothing was in the recycle bin.

As for how my computer is acting: I am currently playing an online game called World of Warcraft. when I play the game, I have what is generally referred to as "lag". it goes from hiccups of lag to downright stopping of the game to "catch-up on the data." I have a delay when I hit the windows button to check out my computer.
during both the time the game is still on the task bar, and after it is closed, My computer acts very slow in doing any command. when I hit control-alt-delete to check the running processes I have over 30 running and when I look at System idle process it is up to 96-100 . I have unloaded, re-downloaded all of my computer recently thanks to "home search assistent" trojan virus.
thanks for your response and i hope that you might be able to shed some light on this laggy problem and maybe why the DSO Exploit keep reapearing…

Brandon H.

laggy problem and maybe why the DSO Exploit keep reapearing

The fact that Spybot finds the problem but can't fix it, is just a bug in Spybot v1.3.

Do you use: Yahoo Pager, Quicken or Microsoft Money?

I suggest you do this:

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://srch-qus8.hpwis.com/

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://srch-qus8.hpwis.com/

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Search for and delete these files if listed:

ALCXMNTR.EXE

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

I went to reboot my computer and a window opened saying: end program ccapp. I let it go on its own to end instead of hitting the end now. after a 2-3 seconds it ended and it rebooted. I hit mozilla foxfire from my desktop. It took almost 5 seconds to open with my "thinking" light on almost full. earlier while on world or warcraft i hit my windows button and it took about 30 seconds to switch from the program to windows, after that, exicuting probrams had a delay of at least 3 seconds. also, the System idle process was up to 96-100 again. also, the WoW executable process had 0-2 at that time. I am not sure if I should be worried about that or not. Thank you for your dilligence and patience. awaiting further instructions.

went to reboot my computer and a window opened saying:
end program ccapp.

ccApp.exe Part of Norton AntiVirus 2003. Auto-protect and E-mail check will not function without this.

Check to make sure that is working.

1. Open My Computer
2. Right click on your hard drive that you wish to clean (C drive, for example)
3. In the context menu that opens, select properties
4. Under the general tab you should select Disk Cleanup
5. Windows will scan your drive which will take a few seconds/minutes
6. A box will display the various files you can remove.
Check all boxes except compress old files (If listed)
7. Click OK and windows will comply.

Restart your computer.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

It is gone. here is the new log file. just recently ive been very laggy. not sure if that Item that was deleted had anything to do with it…? It was so bad, I went to log out of the game, about 1 min later when I wasnt out of the game, I held my off button for 6 seconds and off it went. we shall see how the game reacts now. thanks. heres my new log file.
I don't see anything else in your log that needs fixed. If you want to list the startup items in msconfig, I'll take a look and see if anything needs unchecked there. Click Start> Run> type in Msconfig hit enter. Look in Startup and list those items that have a check by them.
just ran into another problem, NAV found a trojan on my computer named: trojan.byteverify. the main item, blackbox.class was deleted. the other parts were not. I am currently following NAV's directions to take care of the problem. thought you might want to know. when i am done with this, i will post another logfile. after you say that is ok, i will then lookup my startup list and have you check that out. Brandon H.
NAV had me do the following: 1. disable system restore 2. update virus definitions 3. restart in safe mode 4. scan for and delete infected files I did all of the above. one file was not deleted, but was quarentined: c:\documents and settings\owner\application data\sun\java\deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar\archive.jar-5cd41a85-408769fc.zip It contained the infected file. so: i used killbot and deleted it. :) sorry i know this is your site, just i like being able to do what i need to. im now going to post my hijack log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.0 Scan saved at 5:25:12 AM, on 1/22/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\windows\system\hpsysdrv.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\hkcmd.exe C:\HP\KBD\KBD.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\igfxtray.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0\bin\jusched.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe c:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exe C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\spyware & anti-virus\HijackThis.exe O2 - BHO: Yahoo!
