Hi Tom, I have been having trouble with my browser being replaced with best-search.us and I.m also getting alot of pop ups for spyware removal software. I have run a hijack this scan but when I try to get the log a trojan (exploit-MhtRedir.gen) interupts and won't let me attach the log. Any suggestions. I am currently scanning for virus with McAfee which said it deleted this virus.
Run hijackthis
select do a system scan only
after scan is finished
press save log
in the "save as type" choose all files
open the log with microsoft word
alternatively
Run hijackthis
select do a system scan only
after scan is finished
name the log as "hjtlog.doc"
press save log
open the log with microsoft word
That didn't work either so what I've done is screen prints of the log and pasted them into a word doc. I hope they are readable. Now I just need to figure out how to attach the word document.
are u using win xp ?
if yes
can you press do a system scan only in hijackthis
after scan is finished press the print screen button in your keyboard
then open paint
press CTRL+V to paste and then save the file as JPG
able to attach the jpg file ?
I'm using Win 98. I made a word document with screen prints but my problem is there isn't an "attach file" button to get it into the reply box. According to the posting guidelines administration has to give permission or set this up.
if admin as enabled it , you will also see a file attachments option, this will allow you to attach a file to be uploaded when making a post. Click the browse button to select a file from your computer to be uploaded. If you upload an image file, it may be shown in the content of the post, all other file types will be linked to.
Hi lethal happpy new year glad to hear from you again.
I've been trying to figure out how to get a word doc to you that has screen shots of the log file, maybe e-mail? I don't know what you mean by "webspace" and how do I upload a screen shot? I looked over the log and found an item that looked suspect it's an RO-HKLM with "best-search.us" embedded. I deleted it but it came back again. Kind of at a loss as to what to do so any help you can provide is welcomed.
Thanks,
Jim
Try to open notepad on it's own, it could be corrupt
Go To Start > Run and type in "notepad.exe" without the quotes. If it comes up, then it is not a notepad problem
