I'm editing (adding to) my original post per New Member guidelines.
Tremendous problem eliminating xlime/xasdj offeroptimizer. Also, please check MoeMoney. I've run Spybot & AdAware, think I'm up to speed on AntiVirus updates, firewall, popup blocker and Microsoft/IE updates. Need baby steps on starting in safe mode. Should I be as paranoid as this site is beginning to make me? We don't store much sensitive info on our family computer, but buy online occasionally as well as login SS# into "secure" MLynch 401k account. Mainly it's these ratbastard optimizer scumbags scurrying around inside my hard drive that's driving me nuts. Thanks.

Hello leithbones welcome to the forum.

Important. Do this first.

Please put your HijackThis in it's own folder, (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT).
You can do a Right Click on any open area on the desktop, New> Folder, then rename the folder HJT.

Go to where your HijackThis is and Right Click on HijackThis.exe, select Cut, then open the new folder you just created (HJT) Right Click in the folder and select paste.

The reason we do this is Hijackthis creates backup files just in case you'd need to restore one and we'll be cleaning out the temp files.

Use Add/Remove Programs and remove ALL ebates listed.

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these.

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Open C:\WINDOWS\System32\pphelpa.exe <–Delete File

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Thanks for your quick response, I'm going to give it a try. What is the time difference (versus Eastern time) on the 'posted' time? Thanks, Bonehead
I am not stupid. This is not an intuitive process. Much difficulty in following your posting procedures. I truly appreciate the work you put in to help us, but directions presuppose a technical proficiency which is beyond my scope. This is the third time (following your directions) I've tried to send this.
(Edit) Why this effort succeeded where the first two failed, I can't begin to guess. I will now add details on my efforts. Again, I appreciate your assistance.
No ebates listed in programs to Add/Remove.
Did not see pphelpa.exe in either C:WINDOWS or Temp Folders.
Had to confirm by running instructions twice; saw several items in HJT on the second go around.
No instructions given to reset changes in computer settings made in safe mode?
You guys are awesome, sorry to blow off steam.

Boston Red Sox, 2004 World Series Champs (not part of my computer problem)

I take it you wanted to wait until your pc was clean to mention the Boston Red Sox. Good thinking on your part. From a St. Louis fan

Log looks good :D  How is it running any issues?

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
Thanks. Noticeable improvement. I have Windows Firewall active, and Norton Antivirus —- both on Auto-Update. Is there a need for additional firewall or antivirus? Will SpwrBlaster /SpwrGuard /IESPY AD give safeguards beyond Spybot & Ad Aware (which I have on a weekly auto-run)? Your site & similar have made me extremely paranoid about surfing; I have 12-14 year old kids on the net regularly (with parental filters on) but saw "twaintech" and others when cleaning out EVERY USER step. How to further guard without being to inhibitive?? Thanks again for Renteria. Bonehead Edit: How to go about configuring disconnection of DSL during non-use periods to insure no monitoring of hard drive?

Is there a need for additional firewall or antivirus

No.

Will SpwrBlaster /SpwrGuard /IESPY AD give safeguards beyond Spybot & Ad Aware (which I have on a weekly auto-run)?

Yes.

Keep everything updated and empty Temp files as part of your cleanup.

Glad we were able to help :wavey:
Bad buzz.
24 hours later xasdj.offeroptimizer rears its ugly cornhole.
Have not yet added spwrblstr or spwrguard.

I suggest you do this:

Have not yet added spwrblstr or spwrguard.

You need to get those

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these.

O2 - BHO: ZServObj Class - {00000000-C1EC-0345-6EC2-4D0300000000} - C:\WINDOWS\ZServ.dll

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

1. Open My Computer
2. Right click on your hard drive that you wish to clean (C drive, for example)
3. In the context menu that opens, select properties
4. Under the general tab you should select Disk Cleanup
5. Windows will scan your drive which will take a few seconds/minutes
6. A box will display the various files you can remove.
Check all boxes except compress old files (If listed)
7. Click OK and windows will comply.

Restart your computer.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Thanks for working during Holidays!!
Think I followed directions; also, ran Spybot, SpwrBlaster, Ad-Aware; deleted temp cookies & temp files. Performance has improved, but offer.optimizer still lurks. Also, "02 - BHO: ZservObj Class…." reappeared after my first effort at enclosed directions. 2nd time eliminated it. I Hope…..
Thanks, BostonBonehead
