I also get a error message when trying to run Disk Check from command line that says C:\WINDOWS\system32\autoexe.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-Dos and Microsoft windows applications. Choose close to termanate !
None of the online virus scans will not complete their scan before the computer then reboots. Ran Hijack this and it seems quite a few things are wrong but not to sure which to click to fix so figured I should post the log here and see if anything can be done with this thing ! Thanks you in advance for any imput someone can make !!

System rebooted from crash then wouldn't reboot at all until third power down !

Click here to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file then double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the 'Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste the following, clicking the red 'Delete File' button after pasting each one:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\odbcp32r.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\fontsub.exe

Click 'Exit' when done.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

Make sure that you have no other browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

Reboot when done. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the !Submit folder on the C:\ drive and inside you will the files removed by TheKillbox - zip them up individually and send to this e-mail address including a link to this thread in the body of the email.

Rescan with HJT and post a new log for a final check over.

Down loaded removal tool from Symantec but system reboots when using it even in safemode was thinking of using KillBox to possiblely stop the program then the remaval tool might work? Figure I should post here before trying! Again Thanks

Still having a problem with it crashing when trying to defrag. Just after finishing compacting files and to start moving files it reboots. Also when entering command in Run option I get a message: C:\WINDOWS\System\command.com C:\WINDOWS\System32\Autoexec.nt The system file is not suitable for running MS-Dos and Microsoft windows applications. Choose close to termanate the application Whole system seems to be unstable and on the brink of total collapse of hard drive! Hope you might have some positive imput and assistance because this on has be by the Huevo's and won't let up so to speak. Again thanks for the other recomendations they seem to have help some what ! :)

One other thing Daemon, Not able to do any updates at Microsofts web site! It just stays at the window stating looking for updates. I've try all of their troubleshooting option they mention, but no cigar Nada nothing.

Get your XP CD and follow the instructions below (put your actual CD-ROM drive letter where I have indicated)

1. Insert the CD into the CD drive or DVD drive.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
4. At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command:

expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\config.nt_ c:\windows\system32\config.nt

expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\autoexec.nt_ c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt

expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\command.com_ c:\windows\system32\command.com

exit

5. Try entering command in run again.

I'd love to but HP didn't see fit to include a recovery CD with their product ! Yea I found what your talking about at the Microsoft web site. So now I'm a proud owner of nothing more than a expensive night light (The monitor). Like to thank you for all your help Daemon ! Just wish I could get my hands on one of these guys that write these programs that cause all these problems I see posted all over here at the board. I could guarantee you it would be the LAST program he would ever write ! Only option I can see now is to go out and purchase another operational XP some place and at least then I would have a recovery CD ! Or go and find a Bootleg copy but that's just not my thing ! Keep up the good work here I feel lucky I found this place and will keep it on my favorites for further reference just in case I get this or another system up and running. Just wish I had some cash to send to the guy that's running this Board, he should be commended for his effort and time he has put into this place. I'm afraid some take this place for granite and that's a shame because if they have to turn to Microsoft or OEM for tech help they'll have to pay thru the nose .

Let's not give up just yet. I can't see any malware in your log. Try this.

Click here to download mwavscan. Double-click it to run it, select all local drives, scan all files, press 'scan' and when it is completed, anything found will be displayed in the lower pane. Highlight it, CTRL C and paste it in your next reply.

(do this when you have a couple of hours to kill)

This thing got pass my virus detection my firewall and spybot and a few others !
