Hi,
Well this usually does not happen to me. Hasn't happened in months cuz I'm usually never careless, but yesterday I download a whole bunch new stuff, but took most of it off now and now my spywareguard keeps popping up telling me something is trying to change my homepage. Also when I'm using explorer I have another search bar, but right now I'm using firefox.
I've ran adaware and spybot S&D and deleted a lot of stuff, but still can't seem to get rid of this hijacker. Can someone pls check my hijack log? I know mostly what to delete but not all of it. Thanx in advance,
Chloe

:rant2: Ok I have run adaware, removed a bunch of stuff, restarted. Ran spybot removed stuff, did the trendmicro online scan, it found nothing, ran the panda scan it found a trojan.downloader. but it said it removed it. Ummm I don't know what else to do, I have this "lop" search bar now and still something trying to hijack my homepage. I'm getting frustrated lol. I've also ran cw shredder. I"m using Avast antivirus, good? bad? Any help greatly appreciated. Chloe
Ok I think I finally have this problem fixed, just by reading other people's posts and downloading and trying things. I finally found one post to uninstall the Lop but when I tried to openthing it in IE it said my security settings prevented me from opening that link so I just copied it into firefox downloaded the Lop uninstalled and now NO pop-ups and nothing is trying to change my startpage. Just gonna post a new HJT log just in case someone else spots something, but I think I'm in the clear. I also uninstalled msn 7 cuz it seemed to be freezing things up.

Sorry if I'm being a pest haha…..
Chloe
You shouldn't answer your own post. We look for post without replies.

I suggest you do this:

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://ca.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi…/search/ie.html

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://ca.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi…//www.yahoo.com

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://ca.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi…/search/ie.html

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://ca.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi…//www.yahoo.com

ALL 016's. They'll come back if needed.

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

1. Open My Computer
2. Right click on your hard drive that you wish to clean (C drive, for example)
3. In the context menu that opens, select properties
4. Under the general tab you should select Disk Cleanup
5. Windows will scan your drive which will take a few seconds/minutes
6. A box will display the various files you can remove.
Check all boxes except compress old files
7. Click OK and windows will comply.

Reboot:

You need to update both Windows XP and Internet Explorere as they are both well behind in updates. They are both missing Service Pack 1 which is leaving you open to all kinds of problems.

I DO NOT suggest you go to Service Pack 2, at this time.

Service Pack 1 for XP

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa…p1/default.mspx

Service Pack 1 for Internet Explorer.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downlo…p1/default.mspx

Install then Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Ok I did all you suggested. Took 4ever for the updates! But it's done :D Sorry 'bout answering my own posts. Just thought I had it fixed. Anyway here's the new HJT log, think everything's ok now. I hope so hehe.
Anyway just wanted to add, I think this forum is awesome, I learn so much usefull advice and information from here and another forum. You guys(gals) are Grrrr-eat!!…. B)

I suggest you do this:

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these.

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Open C:\WINDOWS\web <–Delete Folder

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
 Okay hehe I think this looks pretty good, but here is the new HJT log. Did everything you asked. That was fun LoL. I love learning about stuff like this. Anyway here it is :D

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
Hey, :wavey: Thanks a lot!!! I did the whole system restore thing and things seem to be running great. I just have a few questions. I already have spywareguard and used to have spywareblaster, but I uninstalled that cuz I didn't know it was really doing anything. I'm going to install IESPY AD right after I post this and spywareblaster. I also use TrojanHunter & Spyware Doctor, do I really need those two? And is Avast good enough anti-virus? Also I've never really used a firewall. And ZoneAlarm seems to slow my pc down, any other suggestions? Anyway sorry lol, a 'few' questions, turned into ALOT of questions. ;) Thank you for all your help and I'll check out the classroom!! Chloe
