Does anyone have ideas or suggestions to remove these problems. I had not done the Windows XP SP2 update, and I definitely got hit! My browser (IE) continues to get hi-jacked to multiple sites, many of which are not so pretty!

The following have all been identified as problems on my system (using Windows XP) within the past week:
CoolWebSearch
CWS-AboutBlank
CWS sp.html hijack
Alexa Toolbar
Dss Agent
Securybanks Phishing Trojan
Smart Tags
TIBS Dialer
Pxhping.exe
Mqbckup.exe
img[1].htm
in_s[1].class
Dummy[1].class
ok[1].class
hdr.dll
sp.html
mindep.dll - This one McAfee finds, can’t delete, and states that the “clean failed because the file isn’t cleanable”

The above list has been found multiple times by one or more of the following:
McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise 7.0 using the Nov 24 definitions
SpySweeper (Current Version) and definitions 419 (current)
AdAware (Current)
I have also ran “delcwssk” (CWS Smartkiller Removal Tool) followed by CWSweeper.

Before running the programs above I have turned the System Restore off and opened Windows in Safe Mode. The programs above find, and in most cases delete, these files. Unfortunately, every time I reboot they reappear! The SpySweeper website even admits that they currently don’t have a solution for CWS.

Yesterday I updated Windows XP SP2 (I thought I had already done this, but found out I had not) and now have everything current.
When reading something from your website I saw where an advisor wanted to see an “infected” log, so I did NOT run any of the above programs AFTER installing SP2, so the viruses are still active.

I can definitely use the help, and would appreciate advise! Below is the current HijackThis log. Thanks in advance for any help.

There is a newer of HijackThis1.98.2 Download it here
Please scan with this version.
Thank you…I have downloaded the files, and will attempt your suggestions. I will not be at that computer until later, so it will be about 4-5 hours before I can get this done. I will then post the next log. Thanks!
I did all that you instructed with no problems. I DID go ahead and "fix" the optional things you mentioned.
I don't notice any differences yet in the computer. Internet loaded fine, and went to this site fine until I went to "add a reply". At that time I got hijacked again to some porno site.
For the following log I started up Windows normally, then closed down SpySweeper and disabled McAfee AV PRIOR TO running HJT.
Thanks again for helping!!

Download then unzip and run CWShredder to clean up clicking "FIX" to have it remove all it finds.

CWShredder available from these places :-

http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads.php
Or this as a full download without any unzipping required
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/CWShredder.exe

We have found that some of the CWS infections can be removed better from safe mode, rather than normal mode.
To get to safe mode use the F8 key while booting the machine. Detailed instructions from here :-
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen…001052409420406

Go here and run online scan, allow them to delete whatever they find:
TrendMicro HouseCall

Then post another log.
Interesting…
I ran CWShredder from Safe mode, and it found nothing. I then went to HouseCall and ran the Scan…they found no viruses.
However, I know I still have a problem because after I left the HouseCall site, it hijacked me to another site.

Here is my updated log. By the way, I am running HJT from normal mode. Let me know if I need to do it in safe mode.

Thank you!

Can you please run ServiceFilter and post the log here.
OK, I have done my homework. All suggestions were accomplished. I am including BOTH requested logs into this post. The first log is VERY LONG. Before I paste the logs, I will keep you up to date on the activity on the computer. Still much the same. When I accessed the internet just now I was notified by McAfee that it had found/deleted the pxhping.exe trojan virus. At the same time, SpySweeper notified me that 8 additions had been made to my IE Favorites. I deleted all 8. I seem to get the same 8 "favorites" added time after time, and this same virus is always detected. Then when I was on your site and went to change pages within this forum, I was again hijacked to a "girlsforgames" website. In fact, just as I was proofreading this message, the same general website "poped up" in a new window. Well, here are the TWO LOGS… Thanks again! Scan with Ad-Aware, and before running the program.
Please be sure to update the reference file following the instructions here:

Reconfigure Ad-Aware for Full Scan:

Launch the program, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen.

Click the "Scanning" button.
Under Drives, Folders and Files, select "Scan within Archives".
Click "Click here to select Drives + folders" and select your installed hard drives.

Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
Click the "Advanced" button.
Under "Log-file detail level", select all options.
Click the "Tweaks" button.

Under "Scanning Engine", select the following:
"Unload recognized processes during scanning."
Under "Cleaning Engine", select the following:
"Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."
Click on 'Proceed' to save these Preferences.

Run the Ad-Aware scan and allow it to remove everything it finds and then REBOOT to allow it to finish.

Download then unzip and run CWShredder to clean up clicking "FIX" to have it remove all it finds.

CWShredder available from these places :-

http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads.php
Or this as a full download without any unzipping required
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/CWShredder.exe

We have found that some of the CWS infections can be removed better from safe mode, rather than normal mode.
To get to safe mode use the F8 key while booting the machine. Detailed instructions from here :-

Then post another log.
I followed your instructions. Prior to running AdAware I got online to verify that my definitions were updated. I was on about 30 seconds before I again was notified by McAfee that it detected and deleted the pxhping.exe (Trojan) virus, and SpySweeper again detected the same 8 additions to my IE Favorites. All these were deleted. Then about a minute later something NEW happened. The computer "clicked" and I got a message the "TM" was connected in the Internet connection status window. I have no idea what that was, but then my browser was again hijacked to a different porno site. I just shut down the internet connection totally. After connecting again, this has not rehappened to this point. The Adaware scan (done in safe mode) showed 5 new critical objects (all tracking cookies found in the IE cache). I deleted all. Then I ran CWShredder and it was not found on my system. I was not sure which log you wanted to see. I am guessing that it was a new HijackThis log, and that is what is included below. If you wanted the Adaware log I do have it saved and can post it if needed. Please advise. 1. Please download DllCompare http://download.broadbandmedic.com/DllCompare.exe

2. Start the Program with its default settings and put a check mark in the include subdirectories. Click the Run Locate.com and wait until the scan says complete.

3. Click the Compare button to start the next process.

4. Files in the upper portion have been verified to "exist", Files in the bottom section were not able to be accessed. Very few files should be listed in the bottom section when the Compare scan is complete.

5. Click on each of the listed entries in the lower section to select them. Right-click on the file and use the Option Rescan.

6. This will cause Windows Find to see if the file does exist, and then it will be removed from the list (to reduce the number of identified files)

7. Click the Make a Log of what was found button, and post the log here in this thread

Here is the log. * DLLCompare Log version(1.0.0.125) Files Found that Windows does not See or cannot Access *Not everything listed here means you are infected! ________________________________________________ O^E says: "There were no files found :)" ________________________________________________ 1,548 items found: 1,548 files, 0 directories. Total of file sizes: 333,302,598 bytes 317.86 M Administrator Account = True ——————–End log———————
