Hi Gang, I'm new to the whole 'hijack this' method but it seems pretty cool. Can I please get some help on why my Spybot window gives the message: "Spybot s&d reports that you want to download Doubleclick. This is a known threat. Do you want to block this download?". This occurs whenever I change screens while surfing. The same message occasionally pops up with reference to "Avenue A" also. I have the most recent adaware and spybot versions and have tried running at least 4 different virus scans. Every scan turns up with no trouble found. I'm including my hijack this log just in case necessary. This problem only started today because I mistakenly allowed the spyware to come through when asked. Now it seems that there must be something still there. Help! Thanks, Malanyo. The log is as follows (let me know if Ive left anything out): Logfile of HijackThis v1.98.2

Oh, I forgot to add that no spyware was detected on any of the tests. I'm wondering if its a possible problem with Spybot itself but its hard to believe it would give the messages for no reason.
Sorry you have an outdated version of hijackthis. Please download the updted version from the link below and then post a new log.

There is nothing in your log. It sounds like Spybot is letting you know when a cookie is being dropped. This is normal when surfing as most sites have ad cookies that they drop. Is this the only symptom you are having the Sptbot pop up?
That seems to be the only problem. I've enjoyed using spybot for quite awhile and this is the first time its happening. What the peculiar thing is, the message states that "I" am trying to download Doubleclick and Avenue A as if there's something there in the system trying to "call out'. I wish I could just disable that particular function of spybot, otherwise it's just become such a nuissance that I might just have to disable the entire program and use only when necessary. Since I dont have too much stored on my system, I guess I could always reformat. I'm confident that that would cure the ill. Anyway, Siggyx thanks for trying. At least we got rid of some of the obvious junk on there! If you come across anything else that might help, I'll be watchin'. Thanks again.
Interesting. It shows 1 virus found. Listed as : File C:\WINDOWS\PTLSEQ.CPL tagged as not-a-virus:AdWare.PhoenixNet.a. No Action Taken. Total viruses found: 1 Total Errors: 2 From what I've just read, PhoenixNet appears to be some sort of spyware associated with the BIOS which would explain why I seem to remember it from years ago. Still yet if its removable I'd be willing to try. Is this just a simple removal of the entire file or is it more complicated?
Wow, this is getting weird. I removed the "PhoenixNet" file and then did a scan with Pest Patrol. Pest Patrol of course found some things, however when I checked to see if any of those "things" that Pestpatrol found were running in task-manager, I found that none of the listed things were there. Needless to say I took no action. Last time we spoke I removed Spybot and let the system run for awhile w/o it. I reinstalled Spybot this morning (with the same update that I had before) and now I'm not getting the message! I'm cautiously optimistic that the problem may have mysteriously cured itself however I had done this before I initially sought your help and the system ran w/o the messages for a short time but they came back. Lets give it til this evening and we'll see if anything returns. Crossing my fingers til then. Thanks Siggyx. We'll let you know here shortly!
Here's a ? I had regarding Pestpatrol. After I scanned with all the various programs out there, it's interesting that Pest Patrol (a pay-site) claimed it found something but the task manager showed nothing. Is this something that paid spyware-removal manufacturers use to "entice" us into thinking that theirs is better than the freebies? Just wondering….
