Click here to download CWShredder by Merijn Bellekom and run it, hit 'fix' as opposed to 'scan only'. Reboot when done.

Click here to download Spybot Search & Destroy - install, update, scan and fix all RED items it finds. Reboot when done.

Click here to download Ad-Aware SE and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file. Click "Start", select "Perform Full System scan" and "Next" to start the scan. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".

Reboot when done. Rescan with HJT and post a new log here so that any remnants can be removed manually.
Thanks Daemon. Here is the second log after running CWShredder, Spybot S&D, and Ad-Aware SE.

Reboot into Safe Mode by tapping F8 after the BIOS has loaded. Then, click Start>Control Panel, double-click on Administrative Tools then on Services. Look for a service called Wintools for IE Service. Double-click it to open, then click the Stop button and change the 'Startup type' to Disabled. (Don't worry if it's not there)

Press CTRL>ALT>DEL to bring up the Task Manager. In the Processes tab, look for WToolsA.exe, WToolsS.exe and WSup.exe. If any or all of these exist, right-click on each one and select End Process Tree and answer affirmatively to any confirmation questions.

Go back to Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs. If there is an uninstaller for Wintools, try running it.

Now delete this directory:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools <– folder

Reboot back into Normal Mode when done.

Click here to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file then double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the 'Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste the following, clicking the red 'Delete File' button after pasting each one:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\f9xn8cy7yj324.tlb
C:\WINDOWS\System32\matrixhere.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\patpex.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\nfkhxanm3b.dll
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Iesearch.exe
C:\documents and settings\bettina dixon\local settings\temp\DXk1PbSRc.exe

Click 'Exit' when done.

Make sure that you have no other browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

Rescan with HJT and post a new log.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.
Next post after TheKillbox.

Well, it's cleared out a lot of stuff but you now have the latest variant of this pest.

We don't normally recommend running two antivirus programs together. The program I am going to tell you to install has been successful removing this particular variant in the past.

Could you disable Norton for now and go here to download the free version of Grisoft's AVG AntiVirus program.

Install the program, check for updates and scan your system allowing it to remove whatever it finds.

Open the Killbox again. Select the Delete on reboot option.

In the 'Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste the following, clicking the 'Delete File' button (red circle with a white X) after pasting:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\c47h59tdo3r.dll

It will prompt you to reboot, press the NO button. Instead, copy and paste the following and click the 'Delete File' button again:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\winlogin.exe

When it prompts you to reboot this time, press the YES button.

After restarting, with only HijackThis running, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://win-eto.com/hp.htm?id=9
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {467FAEB2-5F5B-4c81-BAE0-2A4752CA7F4E} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\ZKCLCH~1.DLL
O4 - Global Startup: winlogin.exe
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: c47h59tdo3r.dll

Reboot again when done, rescan with HJT and post a new log here.
Next log. It looks like about:blank is back when I started IE.

Daemon, Please disregard my last post concerning about:blank. It is not present on this computer anymore. Everything seems to be working great now. Thanks again for all your help. This PC was in a mess. Larry
Good to hear and you're welcome - glad to help :D

If Norton is your preferred antivirus and you keep it up to date then uninstall AVG. Otherwise uninstall Norton. Antivirus programs that are not kept up to date are worthless and running two resident programs can cause conflicts.

Next, click here to make sure that you have the latest Critical Update patches for Windows. It's very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks.

To help keep you clean follow the recommendations in Tony's article here:

So how did I get infected in the first place?
