Click here to download Spybot Search & Destroy - install, update, scan and fix all RED items it finds. Reboot when done.

Click here to download Ad-Aware SE and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file. Click "Start", select "Perform Full System scan" and "Next" to start the scan. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".

Reboot when done. Rescan with HJT and post a new log here so that any remnants can be removed manually.
I have downloaded an run all scans as you directed reboots etc. I have rerun Hijack this and the log is below:

Thank You
Mike

OK, we don't normally recommend running two antivirus programs together - I assume your Norton is up to date? The program I am going to tell you to install has been successful removing this particular variant in the past.

Could you disable Norton for now and go here to download the free version of Grisoft's AVG AntiVirus program.

Install the program, check for updates and scan your system allowing it to remove whatever it finds.

Click here to download TheKillbox by Option^Explicit. In the 'Paste Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste this entry:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\winlogin.exe

Don't click any of the buttons though, instead please click on the Action menu and choose "Delete on Reboot". In the window that opens up, click on the File menu and choose "Add File". The file should show up in the window. Then repeat the process, this time adding:

C:\Windows\System32\mad.dll

If that's successful you should have the two files listed. Then repeat so that this file appears in the list as well:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\fgp1ghkutu7thd.exe

When they are all there (and double check!), in the same window choose the Action menu and select "Process and Reboot". You'll be prompted to reboot, do so.

With only HJT running, have it fix:

Reboot again and post a new log.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.
WOW, it seems like the redirect has been corrected. after running killbox I could not find the following two lines:

O4 - Global Startup: winlogin.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Control handler] C:\WINDOWS\System32\fgp1ghkutu7thd.exe

HJT fixed everything else and the homepage in IE is staying where I set it. Here is the HJT log now

Looks like we got rid of the hijacking element. Still a few stragglers to deal with.

First, if Norton is your preferred antivirus and you keep it up to date then uninstall AVG. Otherwise uninstall Norton. Antivirus programs that are not kept up to date are worthless and running two resident programs can cause conflicts.

Open TheKill box again. In the 'Paste Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste this entry:

C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe

Don't click any of the buttons though, instead please click on the Action menu and choose "Delete on Reboot". In the window that opens up, click on the File menu and choose "Add File". The file should show up in the window. Then in the same window choose the Action menu and select "Process and Reboot". You'll be prompted to reboot, do so.

With only HJT running, have it fix:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {20EC3D2D-33C1-4C9D-BC37-C2D500688DA2} - C:\Program Files\TV Media\TvmBho.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe

Reboot again, delete the entire TV Media folder and post a final log.
I have run the killbox and HJT. I have also tried to remove TVmedia thru ad/remove programs…no luck. also, I am now getting a bxx5.dll error on startup…argh. Here is the latest log from HJT

Thanks & Happy Thanksgiving!
Mike

You are picking up all kinds of nasties. Reboot into Safe Mode by tapping F8 after the BIOS has loaded. With only HJT running, have it fix:

I think it is related to TV Media. Let's move it.

Using Windows Explorer, go to your root drive: C:\ and create a new folder 'Junk'.

Unzip and run Winfile from here. Open it up, click File>Move…

Copy and paste this into the 'From' box: C:\WINDOWS\System32\mad.dll
Copy and paste this into the 'To' box: C:\Junk\mad.dll

Hit OK. Close Winfile and check in C:\Junk for that file - let me know what's there.
I tried moving the file and received the following error:

Error Moving File

File Manager cannot move C:\WINDOWS\System32\mad.dll: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

I did not rerun HJT
OK, try this.

Open TheKillbox. In the 'Paste Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste this entry:

C:\Windows\System32\mad.dll

Don't click any of the buttons though, instead please click on the Action menu and choose "Delete on Reboot". In the window that opens up, click on the File menu and choose "Add File". The file should show up in the window. Then in the same window choose the Action menu and select "Process and Reboot". You'll be prompted to reboot, do so.

With only HJT running, have it fix:

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: mad.dll

Reboot again and post a new log.
This thing is like superglue!

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: mad.dll
Yes it is. AppInit_DLLs entries load early in the boot sequence and can be a bit troublesome. Have you noticed TV Media is back - this parasite is hooking into your system and reinstalling.

Let's see what FindnFix shows us. Click here to download FindnFix.exe (2K/XP only!) by freeatlast. Double-click on the FINDnFIX.exe and it will install a folder called FINDnFIX on your system. Go to that folder and double-click on !LOG!.bat. The program takes a few minutes to collect the necessary information. When done post the contents of Log.txt in this thread.
