My browser is always hijacked to a search screen. Before going to the search screen, it tries to find win-eto.com

Click here to download Spybot Search & Destroy - install, update, scan and fix all RED items it finds. Reboot when done.

Click here to download Ad-Aware SE and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file. Click "Start", select "Perform Full System scan" and "Next" to start the scan. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".

Reboot when done. Rescan with HJT and post a new log here so that any remnants can be removed manually.

Here's my hijack this log file after I ran adaware & spybot S&D. I am getting page cannot be found messages when i try to log onto my hotmail email account & contentwatch.com & the link for CWShredder, to name a few. Thanks in advance for your help.

Click here to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file then double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the 'Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste the following, clicking the red 'Delete File' button after pasting each one:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\canc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\DKQXA.exe
C:\WINDOWS\GMTZDJ.exe
C:\WINDOWS\fash.exe

Click 'Exit' when done.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

Then create a new folder called C:\HijackThis, extract the HijackThis.exe file from the zip file into the new folder and run it from there. This is necessary to ensure you have backups should anything go wrong. Make sure that you have no other browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

Reboot when done. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the !Submit folder on the C:\ drive and inside you will the files removed by TheKillbox - zip them up individually and send to this e-mail address including a link to this thread in the body of the email.

Rescan with HJT and post a new log for a final check over.

After running TheKillbox, I removed the indicated entries from the HJT scan. There was one entry that was no longer there.

I ran TheKillbox & sent the email with the removed files.
Then I ran HJT from the c:HijackThis folder & removed the indicated entries, except for one that could not be found:

When I reboot, I get the following error message:

That looks better. With only HJT running have it fix:

I'm not getting the error message at reboot anymore, but I am still unable to access contentwatch.com. I don't know about any other pages. I'll check some others when I return home this afternoon.

I can't access contentwatch.com, google.com, my hotmail email account or the site to download cwshredder. I can access yahoo, msn, and others.

Your log looks OK. In IE, could you click Tools>Internet Options>Security and click the Restricted Sites icon. Click the Sites button and check if the sites you are having problems with are listed. If so remove them.

There are some sites listed by name, but not any of the ones that I'm trying to access. There are some other sites listed by IP address. There are about 8 of them. I don't know the IP address for google, contentwatch, etc. How can I find out to check that?

Nevermind about CWShredder. I finally found i site i could log onto & run it & it didn't fine anything. Oh, well. What to try next?

HELP!!!! As of this morning I can't log onto any internet site AT ALL!!! I'm sending this post from my computer at work, so I won't be able to do anything for a few hours. Last nite I ran the online virus search from trendmicro. It found 12 entries, which are really 4 entries in 3 different places: Java Bytever.A-1 Java Femad.B Java Bytever.A Joke 150 Alerts They are all in temporary internet files folders for different user accounts. When I go into IE to try to delete tempory files, the thing locks up & finally gives me the message that the program is not responding. I can go into the folder & delete files individually, but it's gonna take forever 'cause there are a lot of them. (When i try to select all & delete, it locks up then too.) Please tell me this can be fixed. Barbara
