The first thing I need you to do is download the file from here:

Getservice.zip

Extract the file to the c:\ drive. Then navigate to the c:\getservices and double-click on the getservices.bat file. A notepad will open up. Please paste the contents of that notepad as a reply to this post.

As it has been some days since your hijackthis log - could you also post a new hijackthis log too.

With this infection which is hooked well into the system it is often best if the number of reboots of the machine are kept to urgent boots only, so please try to leave your machine on and not reboot if you are able. These files and services can rename themselfs and we need to minimise the chance of that happening while we do the fix.
First The get srvice file

Hello yanks10952,

I notice that you have AdWatch running which is a good thing when your computer is clean. However we have found that any protective programs other than your AV software and Firewall need to be disabled for the fix to work. So please find and disable Ad-Watch and any other protective programs you have such as Spyware Guard, Spybot Tea Timer or any of programs such as that. What we need is for them not to be protecting your PC as they will protect it from the fix as well which we do not want.

I would also like to find out if you have a hidden DLL file which is very common with these infections. Before I give you instructions to fix I would like you to please do the following:

Following these steps will produce a file in notepad that appears to contain gibberish. Please post it all back here.

1. Please Copy the contents of the quote box to Notepad.

Reg save "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows" windows1.hiv
ren windows1.hiv windows.txt

2. Save the notepad file as *All Files* (in the drop down menu) and the name the file Appinit.bat
on the Desktop.

3. Double-click on Appinit.bat

4. This will create a file on the desktop named windows.txt

5. Please make sure that you select all of the 'gibberish' before you copy and post it as Windows.txt to this thread using 'Add Reply'.

Once I see the windows text file I will be able to give you some fix instructions.
When I click on it a screen flashes open for a second then closes but I do not see any file called windows and I searched My computer also nothing.
The other program that will give us an automatic answer has not been working with this infection lately either. The only thing which will give us an absolute answer is to have you open REGEDIT and navigate to the location that the entry usuallly is and see if it is there. However I will have you back up the registry before looking around in case something goes wrong.

We may need this program to repair your computer but I will have you use it to get the information I need first:

Please download Registrar Lite: from Registrar Lite and install it to C:\Program Files\RegLite\ . This is a registry editor that is very easy to use.

Once it is installed please open it by double clicking on rl.exe . When the window opens please copy and paste the following bold text into the Address Box and click Go:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows

Once the Windows folder is hightlighted purple, please go to File>Export and save the file as
1) Winkey.reg and file type Redegit4 standard reg files
2) Winkey.hiv and file type Regedt32 WinApi hive files

1. Now look in the right hand pane of the window and note if you have an entry for AppInit_DLLs.

2. If you do please double click on AppInit_DLLs to open the data editor window and see if there is anything in the Value box. Please copy exactly what is in the Value box and post it back here.

3. Post the entry from the value box here in this thread as it will be one of the hidden entries that is keeping the infection going.
Hello yanks10952

I now have the information I need, to give you removal instructions but It will take several steps. In this step I will give you instructions to run two tools and ask you to download several tools which will be needed to remove the infection for use in later steps It is very important once you start the fix to be totally disconnected from the internet and not to open Internet Explorer. This infection will reinstall itself under those circumstances. I will let you know when to disconnect from the internet.

Step#1

Please download, install and update each of the following tools for use in later steps

1. Please Download the most recent version of CWShredder, from CWSInstall.exe

2. Check for Updates

1. Download Start CHM Fix to your Desktop .

2. Run it and it will extract the folder to the desktop and Open the folder after extracted.

Step#2

A program to kill files that will not respond to deleting with Windows Explorer:

Hello yanks10952,

It appears you are making progress to remove the infection. Now for the next set of steps which will also require you to disconnect from the internet and keep Internet Explorer closed. We are going to run these programs consecutively to remove the infection as that is what removes it.

Step#1

With Ad-Watch or any other protective programs running the infection will not be able to be fixed. Ad-Watch will prevent the changes that need to be made to allow us to remove the infection. Please disable Ad-Watch and the protective part of Spybot SD before continuing with the fix.

Step#2

1. Please boot into Safe Mode by tapping F8 while booting up and Open Startchmfix

2. Please make sure all Windows including Internet Explorer are closed.

3. Double click the fix.bat (Only run it once or you will lose the backups).

4. Notepad will open at the end with a message and the bad file listing at the end.

5. Please post that bad file listing line here in your next reply. The Tool is designed so that if it is unable to remove the file, it will tell the user to reboot and will remove the bad file on Reboot.

6. If no files show in the bad file listing then do a Reboot and do a search for either of these highlighted files and DELETE them:

C:\Windows\System32\ C_10230.DLL or
C:\Windows\System\crt32_v2.dll

7. Reboot into Safe Mode

Step#3

1. In Safe Mode CLOSE ALL WINDOWS except CWShredder

2. Run CWShredder by clicking 'fix' and letting it fix all CWS remnants.

3. REBOOT to finish the removal and clear memory.back into Safe Mode

Step#4

1. For Spybot SD please Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D

2. Click the button to ‘Search for Updates’ then download and install the Updates.

3. Next click the button ‘Check for Problems’

4. When Spybot is complete, it will be showing ‘RED’ entries bold 'Black' entries and ‘GREEN’ entries in the window

5. Make certain there is a check mark beside all of the RED entries ONLY.

6. Choose ‘Fix Selected Problems’ and allow Spybot to fix the RED entries.

7.REBOOT to complete the scan and clear memory.back into Safe Mode

Step#5

1. Using Ad-Aware Click ‘Start’

2. *Choose:'Perform Full System Scan'
*DESELECT "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.

3. Click ‘Next’ and Ad-Aware SE will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected and clean automatically.

4. If Ad-Aware SE finds bad entries, you will receive a list of what it found in the window

5. Save the log file when it asks and then click ‘finish’

6. REBOOT to complete the removal of what Ad-Aware SE found back into Safe Mode

Step#6

1. In Safe Mode Scan again with HijackThis (ALL WINDOWS CLOSED EXCEPT HJT)

2. Put a check mark beside each of the following entries in the HJT window

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINNT\pphwc.dll/sp.html#37794

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINNT\pphwc.dll/sp.html#37794

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mfcpt.exe] C:\WINNT\mfcpt.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [dxcyx] C:\WINNT\Active Setup Log.BAK:dxcyx

3. Click 'fix checked

4. REBOOT to finish removing the entries into SAFE MODE by tapping F8 repeatedly while booting up

5. In Safe Mode open Killbox that you downloaded last post and

1. Put a check mark In the box for delete on reboot

2. copy and paste each path and file name C:\WINNT\mfcpt.exe
into the box in killbox and hit kill file.

6. Delete the file C:\WINNT\Active Setup Log.BAK:dxcyx after killing it with killbox.

7. Repeat the steps in Safe Mode for C:\WINNT\system32\fupnq.dll and delete the file once the file is killed

8. REBOOT to make sure it is gone Into Normal Mode.

Hello yanks10952

There is indication that the infection has been reinstalled 3 times now. It seems that it has been that way throughout the fix. We need to investigate whether there is a rogue service now that is keeping things going. When you checked before there was none. This infection is unpredictable though.

Step#1

Were you able to complete this step? If not please do it now.
We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Step#2

1. Download Service Filter
2. Extract it to it's own folder.
3. Click on ServiceFilter.vbs
4. A text file called POST_THIS will be in the same folder
5. Please use Edit>Select all then Edit>Copy to obtain the contents
6. Please Post them into this thread using 'Add Reply'

Step#3

1. Please scan again with HijackThis

2. Post a new log file here in this thread using Add Reply

Good Luck!
I was able to complete step 1 before

Hello yanks10952,

I am asking another expert to have a look at this. The files you are unable to find are infected files and as they show in every HijackThis log file they are hiding on your PC somewhere and have to be removed. It is quite possible that this is a new variant of the infection that we will have to use other methods to remove.

In the meantime please try HijackThis again but in normal mode this time:

1. Scan again with HijackThis (ALL WINDOWS CLOSED EXCEPT HJT)

2. Put a check mark beside each of the following entries in the HJT window

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINNT\pphwc.dll/sp.html#37794

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINNT\pphwc.dll/sp.html#37794

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINNT\pphwc.dll/sp.html#37794

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINNT\system32\fupnq.dll/sp.html#37794

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINNT\system32\fupnq.dll/sp.html#37794

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mfcpt.exe] C:\WINNT\mfcpt.exe

O18 - Protocol hijack: ct - {774E529C-2458-48A2-8F57-3ED3105D8612}

3. Click 'fix checked

4. REBOOT to finish removing the entries into SAFE MODE by tapping F8 repeatedly while booting up

5. In Safe Mode DELETE the following files:

C:\WINNT\mfcpt.exe

C:\WINNT\pphwc.dll

C:\WINNT\system32\fupnq.dll

6. REBOOT into normal mode

7. please SCAN again with HJT and

8. POST a new log file here in this thread using 'Add Reply' to see what is left to clean.

good luck!
