Hi,

I ran Ad-Aware and Spybot on my PC and lots of entries have been removed. Do I still have any spyware remaining?

Thanks,

Igor

Micah,

it seems the only remaining problem is "naupoint". It restores itself after every reboot, after I remove corresponding entries with HiJackThis. My spywareguard reports constant attempts to set starting page, search page and something else to "naupoint".

Below is HJT log.

Thanks,

Igor

Thanks for this information, Micah! I will do what you said and post the new HJT log on November 14th. Anyway, the naupoint is gone, I looked at the log after all and all entries related to it are gone, including O21. Speaking of two other executables, I will take care of them, but even before it the PC works fast as it was before it was invaded with malware. Thanks for your help, Igor
Micah,

I think now everything looks good.

Right?

Igor

Micah, this is a suprize!!! I did not see those two files in HJT window, search for them did not return anything (and I checked search hidden files)! I will check the PC again on 21st and post the new log. Also, I would like to check with you about the file SystemTray.exe. Every time the PC is rebooted, this application fails to stop, I have to terminate it manually. The web says this file comes with the virus Backdoor.Bigfoot. Should I do something about it? Thanks, Igor
Micah,

this time I think I cleaned well. I see a couple of entries in HJT log marked as "no file", but I am not concerned of this. The most important is to be sure the PC is clean.

What do you think?

Regards,

Igor

All the bad things are gone, Igor.

A few cleanup items remain.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Scan".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {BDF3E430-B101-42AD-A544-FADC6B084872} - (no file)

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} -

Then click "Fix checked".

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)

As an "optional" fix, I would suggest uninstalling "Viewpoint Manager" (then reboot to complete the uninstall) as it is considered "spyware".

:)
Micah,

thanks for quick reply. I uninstalled Viewpoint Manager and deleted two entries.

Please let me know what you think.

Regards,

Igor

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?" here:

http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957

Download IE-Spyad here:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings here:

http://browsercheck.qualys.com/index.php

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.
