Hi Bulljoe,

You've got some bad things inside…

Please do this first:
  • Go to Start - Control Panel - Add/Remove, and uninstall:
    - New.Net (NewDotNet)
    - CashBack
    - WinTools
    - NaviSearch
    - WebSavings from Ebates
  • Download the latest version of Ad-Aware:
    http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

After installing AAW, and before running the program.
Please be sure to update the reference file following the instructions here:
    http://www.lavahelp.net/howto/updref/

    Reconfigure Ad-Aware for Full Scan:

Launch the program, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen.

    Click the "Scanning" button.
Under Drives, Folders and Files, select "Scan within Archives".
Click "Click here to select Drives + folders" and select your installed hard drives.

Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
    Click the "Advanced" button.
Under "Log-file detail level", select all options.
    Click the "Tweaks" button.

Under "Scanning Engine", select the following:
    "Unload recognized processes during scanning."
Under "Cleaning Engine", select the following:
"Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."
Click on 'Proceed' to save these Preferences.

Run the Ad-Aware scan and allow it to remove everything it finds and then REBOOT to allow it to finish.
  • If you haven't done so Please Scan with Spybot Search and Destroy:

    1. Downloaded and Install Spybot S&D, accepting the Default Settings

    2. In the Menu Bar at the top of the Spybot window you will see 'Mode'. Make certain that 'default mode' has a check mark beside it.

    3. Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D

    4. Click the button to ‘Search for Updates’ and download and install the Updates.

    5. Next click the button ‘Check for Problems’

    6. When Spybot is complete, it will be showing ‘RED’ (RED) entries ‘BLACK’ entries and ‘GREEN’ (GREEN) entries in the window

    7. Make certain there is a check mark beside all of the RED (RED) entries ONLY.

    8. Choose ‘Fix Selected Problems’ and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

    9. REBOOT to complete the scan.
  • Reboot, make a new HijackThis log and post it here.
Thanks for your help Hans,

I was unable to find New.Net in the Add/ Remove Folder but I believe I have deleted the remaining items.

When I run Spybot I keep getting two re-occuring RED entries, "Cydoor" one entry and "DSO Exploit" 5 entries. Re-runnining the program does not seem to solve the problem. They just keep reappearing. Any ideas?

Anyhow, here is the new log:-

Hi bulljoe,

You're welcome :)

When I run Spybot I keep getting two re-occuring RED entries, "Cydoor" one entry and "DSO Exploit" 5 entries. Re-runnining the program does not seem to solve the problem. They just keep reappearing. Any ideas?

Yes, the DSO Exploit is a bug in Spybot, which can be safely ignored. I don't know much about the Cydoor line, let's see if it's still there after our cleanup :)

1. Do the following:
  • Download and run LSP Fix
  • Check 'I know what I'm doing'.
  • Select all instances of 'osmim.dll'.

3. Close all other windows and browsers, and hit Fix Checked.

4. Go to Add/Remove programs, and see if you can find NewDotNet / New.Net now. If not, go to the next step. If you find it, uninstall it.

5. Reboot, make a new HijackThis log, and post it here :)
Thanks again Hans,

I have followed your instructions but am still unable to find NewDotNet/New.Net.

On running Spybot after following the instructions and rebooting, "Cydoor" & "DSO Exploit" remain. In fact there are now two entries for Cydoor. I don't know if this is a problem or not.

New log follows:-

Hmm… that's strange. Have you disabled some lines in Startup, msconfig? If so, go to Start - Run and type msconfig
Hit OK.
Go to tab Startup.
Click the button "Enable all"
Reboot, make a new log, and post it here :)
Hans,

I'm not sure what you considered strange but I have checked msconfig and all items were enabled.

I found New.Net (NewDotNet) residing in C:/Program Files/New.Net and was able to uninstall it.

I have rerun Adaware and Spybot and found that Cydoor no longer appears.

I hope this has cleaned-up the system. Any other suggestions?

Regards…………

Thanks Hans, Seems as though everything is running OK now. Any suggestions of other sites that might look at different aspects aspects of the computer to keep it "as good as new"? Regards
Yes, I have B)

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers real-time protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free Google toolbar to help stop pop up windows. NOTE: If you’re already using the popupblocker which is integrated with ServicePack 2, you don’t need to get the Google Toolbar, the popupblocker from IE is very good!
I also suggest that you delete your Temp folders regularly. Use CleanUp! to do this automatically for you!
