First of all, open Spybot S&D, click Mode>Advanced>Tools>Resident and remove the check from the Tea Timer box. You can reinstate it later but we don't want it interfering with what we need to do. Reboot when done.

Click here to download CWShredder by Merijn Bellekom and run it, hit 'fix' as opposed to 'scan only'. Reboot when done.

Click here to download Ad-Aware SE and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file. Click "Start", select "Perform Full System scan" and "Next" to start the scan. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".

Reboot when done. Rescan with HJT and post a new log here so that any remnants can be removed manually.
thank you so much. I followed your directions and removed a bunch of stuff from the computer and did another HJT scan. The computer was still really slow and searchportal.info is still my home page. Anyway, here is my log fo you to have a look at.

Thanks again,

Click here to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file then double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the 'Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste the following, clicking the red 'Delete File' button after pasting:

C:\WINDOWS\inetm\services.exe

Click 'Exit' when done.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

Open TheKillbox again, click File, Open!Submit and you will see a folder bearing the date that you used TheKillbox - zip it up and send to [removed] including a link to this thread in the body of the email.

Then create a new folder called C:\HijackThis, extract the HijackThis.exe file from the zip file into the new folder and run it from there. This is necessary to ensure you have backups should anything go wrong. Make sure that you have no other browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.searchportal.info/10040/
F1 - win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\inetm\services.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xp_system] C:\WINDOWS\inetm\services.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [xp_system] C:\WINDOWS\inetm\services.exe

Reboot, rescan with HJT and post a new log for a final check over.
Hi Daemon,

I followed your instructions except after I used Killbox and tried to send the email everything froze up and I had to reboot before I could use the internet again. I havnt sent the email yet but I will. Also, when I logged back on after fixint the things with HJT my page tried to open to about:blank. Anyway, here is the latest log. Thank you so much for all your help.

Hi, I did everything over again and the things that were removed seem to be gone. I got a couple of messages after I used killbox. It said that windows/intem/services.exe was removed unexpectedly and that the system would be shut down. There was a counter that went from 60 to 0 and the computer rebooted. When it started up it said that it was looking for windows/intem/services.exe on startup and couldnt find it so the referance to it in the registry should be removed? After that i scanned with HJT and removed the five things that you suggested and rebooted. I rescanned after that and reset my internet settings(which was set to about:blank) and logged on to post this. Here it is.

With my fingers crossed,
