Have come under a constant attack of E-mails with trojans. Sometimes my Norton cannot fix or delete them. I have learned how to start in safe mode and scan and then delete and then return to normal mode. Sometimes on the right hand side of the task bar a yellow disc appears. As soon as I start to move my cursor towards it, it disappears taking with it my norton antivirus and firewall. It turns my E-mail protection off and will not allow me to turn off the computor or restart. I have to manually turn the computor off and then start it back up. Everything comes back on in their default settings w/Norton security and E-mail protection on along with my firewall. I have been trying to understand port settings and how someone could get in. I have a long way to go in that area. I have deleted windows media player and real player. I tried quick time but it wouldn't let me delete a couple of their files. I have also deleted the file net2phone. listed below is my hijack file;

Thanks for any help in this matter! Signed, close to criticality in this nuclear reaction, alpharay!
Correction, the icon that appears in my task bar while downloading E-mail is a magnifying glass that is blue which looks to be over a letter. The second that I move the cursor it disappears. I have had to quarantine E-mail everytime this happens. Hartbets E-mail is sending this W32.Beagle virus. Alpharay.
Hello alpharay and welcome to TomCoyote.

Correction, the icon that appears in my task bar while downloading E-mail is a magnifying glass that is blue which looks to be over a letter. The second that I move the cursor it disappears.

This is normal and indicates that Norton AntiVirus is scanning the E-mail for virus, worms, etc.

Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove the following:

Comet Cursor

Run at least two of these online anti-virus scanners:

bitdefender
pandasoftware
Symantec Security Check << click scan for viruses
RAV Online Virus Scanner

Make sure to have them fix all that they find. Reboot in between each scan. Write down anything that is not fixed.

HijackThis needs to be unzipped into a permanent folder in order to save backups just in case something goes wrong. Go to Start > My Computer > and double click on C:. Now right click an open area and click New > folder and change the folder name to HJT. Extract HijackThis from the zipped file into this new folder.

Scan with HijackThis and post the new log as a reply to this thread. Include anything not fixed by the online scans.
here's the copy of my files from highjack this,

No infections were found from either Panda or bitdefender. The hackers that keep sending me an E-mail w/the beagle virus which I continuously clean and delete in safe mode. Also in my norton security It is not logging any of the websites that are visited. The E-mails when they come turn off my norton auto protect and E-mail scanning. Is there any way to automatically block their IP address from entering my computor or do I need to get another E-mail address. This is getting old. Thanks for your reply and most impotantly your time. alpharay

I could not delete DR_S.EXE file. My favorites bar did not show up on my desktop after reboot in normal mode. I still have it in the start menu. Here's my hjt file.

I travel on the road a lot sometimes 3 days sometimes 2 weeks. Thanks again for your help and your time. I would like when I have more time to interact in your training programs. alpharay

PS. My microsoft outlook 2000 bar dissappeared from my desktop which has the favorites in it. I have not lost them, just the desktop.

The file DR_S.EXE has been deleted. Below is the new hjt log.

Make sure to delete the entire folder DR_S if not done already.

Go to Start > Run and type msconfig in the box, click ok. On the Startup tab, make sure everything is checked. On the General tab check Normal Startup. Click OK and no when asked to restart. I need this done to be sure all items are showing in the HijackThis log.

Is Norton Anti-Virus and Firewall still getting shutdown or has the problem gone away?

Scan with HijackThis and post the new log as a reply to this thread.

You can now go back into msconfig and disable the items again if you wish to.
Yes, I am still having norton turned off when I get my daily W32Beagle from, "Hartsbet". I pull up norton to scan, "Documents and Settings" files. Once it locates all infections I quarantine the files then delete them and the backups. I have clicked on them and pulled it over to the recycle bin then deleted them. Then do a scan in, "Documents and Settings" to see if its there. Everything is clear. I have been doing a lot more full system scans with no viruses found just to make sure something in them has gone somewhere else because I clicked on them. I turned off my windows firewall because of the conflict with norton. When that was on I was sending web sites to their restricted sites to try and restrict them from coming in. Didn't work! I'm heading out for the surrounding DC area early Saturday morning traveling from New York. I install security items on new homes, hence deadbolt in my E-mail address. I'll be back anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks. Thanks for all your help, alsocom. Alpharay.

I'm ready to pursue the course now that I'm back. Before I left my norton was on in normal mode then when I went into safe mode I discovered it was off. It has been staying on in normal mode now when hartbets W32 beagle comes in. Thats the only difference I've noticed except that my microsoft office bar disappeared. Thanks again for your help, alsocom. alpharay.
Please post a new HijackThis log so I can check that nothing else has appeared. If nothing new shows up you will have only a few things left to fix.
I forgot to mention that the dail up connection no longer pops up every other minute. When trying to close it, it took 4 or 5 attempts to close. Glad thats taken care of. Also when I went into my recycle bin the DR_S.exe file was sitting there. I deleted it. I didn't find it in running processes in the task manager or in the program files. So here's my new HJT log.

Your new log is clean. :D

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the Performance tab, click File System, or press ALT+F.
3. On the Troubleshooting tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
4. Click OK twice, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 3, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore'

Here are some highly recommended free spy/adware scanners:

AdAware SE
Spybot Search and Destroy
Set-up Instructions for Spybot S&D; and AdAware SE

Now that everything is fixed, I suggest that you get these programs:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks many bad things from installing on your computer.
SpywareGuard - Real-time protection from spyware installation attempts
ie-spyad - Puts over 5,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place"

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
