Greetings KellyKristina, and welcome to Tom Coyote!

I'm 'KotaGuy, and I will be helping you with your HijackThis log.

I see lots of stuff in there that shouldn't be. Let's get started.

Please print this out for reference during the fix.

I'm first going to ask you not to run HijackThis from a .zip, temp folder, CD, etc. HijackThis creates a Backup folder and cannot do this if run from a .zip, temp folder, CD, etc. Please move it to its own folder(eg: C:\Program Files\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe). This is very important.

I see both Anti-Virus and a Firewall installed. This is good. I don't see any evidence of any kind of Anti-Malware program installed though. We will correct this shortly.

I would like you to do a online Virus Scan, here: Panda Online Scan And here: Trend Micro Online Scan

Next, could you do an online Trojan scan here: Windows Security Online Trojan Scan

Let them fix anything they find, rebooting between each scan.

I would like you to download and install the newest version of Ad-Aware SE. As well as the newest version of Spybot Search & Destroy. Both of these programs are free.

Make sure both programs are updated after you have installed them. You should also visit this site, Instructions for Spybot S & D and Ad-Aware, for instructions on configuring both programs for best detection.

Once both programs have been updated and configured, scan with both, let them fix what they find. Remember to reboot between each scan.

Go to your Control Panel. Open up Add/Remove Programs. Uninstall any of the follwing you see:

Wild Tangent
ISTsvc
Internet Optimizer
Bullseye Network
Viewpoint Manager
Web Offer
MyDailyHoroscope
Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker

Once that is done, with only HijackThis running, please post the new log and we'll take care of what is left..

Thanks!
I've only gotten half way through your instructions, and have come back to download the Ad-Aware.. and all of a sudden my internet kicks me off after about 2 minutes. Something about a Microsoft Visual C++ Run Time Library error. Runtime Error. C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe. Abnormal program termination. Have to type quick. What is this now……
That was quick - Thank you! So that seemed to work. I have done the 3 scans and have added Ad-Aware SE, however I was just downloading the Spybot and it says I'm out of memory. What do I do to get more memory? Thank you, again, for this help. I really appreciate it.
Try cleaning out your temp files. Go to Start>Run, type in cleanmgr. Let it scan. Put a check beside Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin. Let it clean them.

If you havent defragged your hard drive in a while, you may want to do this as well. Again, go to Start>Run, type in dfrg.msc to bring up the Defragmenter. Click on your C: drive in the upper pane. Click the Defrag button. Go get some coffee…. this could take a while depending on the size of your drive.

After that, reboot and try downloading Spybot again.
Hello KotaGuy, I think I'm getting somewhere. Hopefully I did everything right. It's taken awhile… but here is my new list. Let me know the next step. You've been so helpful. Thank you!!!

OK!

You've done good so far, but there is still a bit to be taken care of.

Please print this out for reference during the fix.

I need you to make sure no files will be hidden. Please:

1. Click Start.
2. Open My Computer.
3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
4. Select the View Tab.
5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
6. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
7. Click Yes to confirm.
8. Click OK.

Run and scan with HijackThis. With all other browsers and windows closed, place a check beside the following and Fix:

Boot Windows into Safe mode. To do this, tap the F8 button as your computer is restarting. This will bring up an Advanced

Options menu. Choose Safe Mode. Hit enter.

Once in Safe Mode, search for and delete the following files if found:

ALCXMNTR.EXE

Search for and delete the following folders if found:

C:\Program Files\WildTangent
C:\Program Files\ISTsvc
C:\Program Files\Internet Optimizer
C:\Program Files\BullsEye Network
C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker
C:\Program Files\Web Offer
C:\Program Files\MYDAIL~1
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager
C:\Program Files\Common files\updater

Clean out your temp files. Click Start>Run, type in cleanmgr. Let it scan. Place a check beside Temporary Files,

Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin.

Reboot Windows normally, and with only HijackThis running, post a new log.

Thanks!
Hello KotaGuy! Okay, so that was a challenge for me. I don't know what any of this means, so I over analyze everything. There was a few things that I didn't delete because I just wasn't sure… Like, there were maybe 5 files with viewpoint, but none with viewpoint manager. I only got rid of 2 cookies that had viewpoint in them. So, I'm sorry if I missed some and you'll have to re-explain. I got rid of a lot of the files that you told me to, but they were listed in C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch. I'm hoping that is okay. I didn't find any with BullsEye.

Also, just another side question. Whenever I shut down, it always said ending program "hpcmpmgr.exe". I have no idea what this is either.

And in the beginning you mentioned Anti-Malware. I did notice when you told me to do those scans, there was a ton of those. Maybe I'm jumping ahead, but I definitely need your advise on that as well.

I will never be able to thank you enough.
Look forward to your response.
Thank you!!
KK

Hello KellyKristina!

Thanks for posting the new log…. it is CLEAN!

Nice Work!

Now that your system is clean, you should reset your System Restore Point. This will ensure a nice clean Restore Point if you ever come across the need to do this.

To reset your System Restore Points:

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the Performance tab, click File System, or press ALT+F.
3. On the Troubleshooting tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
4. Click OK twice, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 3, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore'

Please note that this will delete all previously created Restore Points.

About Viewpoint, as long as you deleted the entries and folder for Viewpoint Manager, this should be fine. Viewpoint itself isn't bad. Viewpoint Manager is.

That shutdown message you are receiving about hpcmpmgr.exe… that process is the main process belonging to the HP Component Manager, and is important to the running of their range of multimedia products.

You are getting the message because the process itself is being slow to shut itself down. In order for Windows to shut down properly, it must wait for all the active processes to shut down first. Then Windows shuts down. You may find you get that message with other programs as well. I get them on my computer every now and then. Nothing serious. If you come across one that seems like it isn't shutting down, you can End Task it and Windows will shut down after that.

About the Anti-Malware programs. You now have 2 installed. but I am going to give you the links to three more programs you may want to install.

The programs are SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, and IE-SPYAD.

Layering multiple protection programs will greatly minimize the chance of reinfection. But it is not a guarantee.

These programs are free. Both SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are updateable. Please do this after you install them.

You may also want to update Windows to SP2 now that your computer is clean. To do that click the Tools header in the IE menu. Click on Windows Update in the dropdown menu.

Other than that… you're pretty much set! Remember to update you Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware programs regularily. And scan frequently as well.

Hello KotaGuy - sorry it took so long to reply. Have had a hard week. My grandma is in the hospital. However, I wanted to reply back to you and tell you how much I have appreciated your help and patience with me. My computer is fixed and has never worked better. I know more about this stuff then I ever thought I would. I have printed out your instructions and will continue to update the items you had me install. Thank you, again, KotaGuy, for all the help. I greatly appreciate it. I know that anyone else that gets you for advice, will be just as appreciative. Thank you, KellyKristina
