Thanks so much for any help!!!!!!
Hello,

You are running HijackThis from a temporary directory. Please create a new folder on the C: drive and name it C:\HJT or something similar. You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select "New" then "Folder" and name it HJT. Next, right click on the program, HijackThis.exe and select "cut." Then, open the new folder, right click on a blank space and select "paste." HijackThis will now be in its new folder.

NOTE: Please print a copy of these instructions because you will be working in Safe Mode and/or with all windows closed except HijackThis.

Please run HijackThis in Safe Mode….

Reboot into safe mode, this way:
Restart the computer
Immediately begin tapping the <F8> key.
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the <Enter> key.

Also, enable the ”Show Hidden Files and Folders” option:
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Place a check mark next to the following items then, WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED, select “fix checked.”

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://srch-us9.hpwis.com/

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows SyncroAd] C:\Program Files\Windows SyncroAd\SyncroAd.exe

O16 - DPF: {15AD4789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://public.windupdates.com/get_file.php…1613117fb4ea0f9

O16 - DPF: {2253F320-AB68-4A07-917D-4F12D8884A06} (ChainCast VMR Client Proxy) - http://64.124.45.181/downloads/ccpm_0237.cab

Now, search for, and delete the following:

C:\Program Files\Windows SyncroAd\ <<<— Folder

Please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example:

C:\WINDOWS\Temp\

C:\Temp\

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

Also delete your Temporary Internet Files, be sure to also select "delete all offline content."

Empty your Recycle Bin.

Reboot into normal mode.

Proceed to the Windows Update site (see link below) download and install ALL critical updates.

Reboot when finished.

If you are not running version 1.3 of Spybot S & D, click here to download Spybot Search & Destroy v1.3 - install, update, reboot into Safe Mode, scan and fix all RED checked items it finds. Reboot into normal mode when done.

Perform a custom Ad-aware scan in Safe Mode……..

If you do not have the latest version of Ad-aware SE Personal, Build 1.05, click here to download Ad-Aware and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file. Then boot into Safe Mode, start the program, and click the gear wheel at the top and check these options to configure Ad-aware for a customized scan:

Under "General Settings" all available options should be selected.

Click the "Scanning" button.
Under "Drives, Folders and Files," select "Scan within Archives".
Click "Drives and folders to scan" and select your installed hard drives.
Under "Memory & Registry," select all options.

Click the "Advanced" button.
Under "Logfile detail level," select all options.

Click the "Defaults" button.
Under "Default IE Pages" set the "Default homepage" and "Default search page" to what you want them to be; otherwise, Ad-aware will reset them. Do not select the option to "Read current settings from system"… manually fill in the desired web address for each. (For instance, if you want Google as your search page, fill in www.google.com in the "Default search page" field).

Click the "Tweak" button.
Under "Scanning Engine," select the following:
"Unload recognized processes during scanning."
Under "Cleaning Engine," select the following:
"Always try to unload modules before deletion."
"During removal unload Explorer and IE if necessary."
"Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."
Click on "Proceed" to save these Preferences.

Run the Ad-Aware scan, making sure that the mode selected is "Use custom scanning options."

When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next." The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?" Reboot into normal mode when finished.

Next, perform online virus and Trojan scans, using the links in my signature below. Allow the programs to delete all that they may find. Reboot after each scan.

Scan with HijackThis and post a fresh log into this same thread.
Hey there! Thanks for the help. I ran into a few problems. First….I went to run a Windows update and rec'd an error 80072EFD. Although, I did run an update last night and it seemed to work fine. I checked my update history and it shows that everything has been updated successfully. I then ran Spybot and deleted the entries marked in red. Then I went to AdAware. As I was following your directions, there wasn't a "Defaults" button….I do have the update for it. Then I ran the Trojan Scan, however, that seemed to have stopped in the middle, so I'm not quite sure if I'm clean of Trojans. I ran a virus scan and that came up clean.

Here's my new log:

Again, thanks for the help!!! :)
Hello,

You're very welcome. :)

If you're using Ad-aware 6, you will not have the "Defaults" button. It can be found in Ad-aware SE, build 1.05, which is the latest version. If you're not running the latest version, I suggest you get it. It's more efficient in finding malware than Ad-aware 6. According to your log, it appears that you're still running Ad-aware 6.

It sounds like you're okay on your updates. I think it would be a good idea to run another Trojan scan after you fix the below entries with HijackThis.

Please print a copy of these instructions because you will be working in Safe Mode and/or with all windows closed except HijackThis.

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adstartup] C:\WINDOWS\system32\automove.exe

Remain in Safe Mode. Find and delete the following file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\automove.exe

Please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example:

C:\WINDOWS\Temp\

C:\Temp\

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

Also delete your Temporary Internet Files, be sure to also select "delete all offline content."

Empty your Recycle Bin.

Reboot into normal mode.

Check Spybot S&D for updates and then perform a scan in Safe Mode, removing all red-checked items that are found. Reboot when finished.

Please download Ad-aware SE, build 1.05….

Click here to download Ad-Aware and install.

Run the Ad-Aware scan, making sure that the mode selected is "Full Scan."

Please repeat the Trojan scan, allowing the program to remove all that it may find. Reboot when finished.

Proceed to the following two locations and perform a virus scan at each, allowing the programs to remove all that they may find. Reboot after each scan.

CA online virus scan….

Bit Defender……..

http://www.bitdefender.com/index.php?tab=0

Scan with HijackThis and post a fresh log into this same thread.
okey dokey…….Here's the scoop…I followed your instructions….when I searched for automove.exe in the windows\system32, there weren't any results. I downloaded Ad-aware SE and ran scan in safe mode. WOW….were there alot of bad items on there! Also ran Ad-aware……out of curiosity….I ran it twice and both times came up with the same items…even though I had "fixed" the problems the first time….is that normal? Anyway, also ran Trojan scan, virus scan and bitdefender scan….all came up clean.

Here's my new log:

:D Again, thanks for your help!!!!!!
Hello,

You're very welcome. Your log is clean now….. Good job! :)

From your post, it appears that you may have both Ad-aware SE and Ad-aware 6 on your system. If that's the case, please remove Ad-aware 6. Lavasoft will not be supporting Ad-aware 6 much longer. Ad-aware SE is its replacement and you should not be running both.

It's likely that the items that Ad-aware SE is turning up now are "negligible risk objects." The next time you run Ad-aware SE, after you click Start, in the next window, near the bottom, you'll see "search for negligible risk objects." De-select it by removing the mark from the selection area.

I would suggest you clear your restore points now:

Turn off System Restore.

Right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot.

Turn ON System Restore.

Right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Un-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
