I may have netstatt issue as I can't run msconfig and regedit except in safe mode. Here's my hijack this log, but I don't see netstatt.exe there. hello kidscrash,

you didnt post the entire HJT log, i would do afew online scans here;

http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default…id=ie&venid=sym

http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co…n_principal.htm

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php

http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/free_utilities.asp

also from your log– look in add remove panel and uninstall if present:

Viewpoint
WinTools
Web_Rebates

also if you havent yet, download update and run:

Ad-aware SE: http://www.lavasoft.de/

Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de

afterwards post a new HJT log
Thanks shelf life. I run Norton and eTrust anti virus (disappointing), but neither found anyhting. Finally one of yur suggestions did - eScan. It fixed several viruses and trojans, but was un able to repair sdbot and spyboter. It gave me a choice of renaming or removing, but that didn't work. Also run sypot and adaware routinely . Had Norton firewall, but Roadrunner recommended switching to eTrust on that too (said Norton can slow speed). My problems with regedit, msconfig & tskmgr seem OK However. Here's my latest hijack this:

hello kidscrash,
thats good news, that e-scan is great–few more to go:

Check the following items in HiJackThis:
Close all open windows except HiJackThis and press 'Fix Checked'

next find and delete these two items:

Kontiki\bin\bh304181.dll>>delete entire folder located here: C:\Program Files
iewwwint.exe>> delete only that file located here:C:\WINDOWS

if the two items wont delete for some reason then boot into safe mode (tap F8 key at start up, choisce SAFE MODE) then delete them………………..
Well, Shelf Life I fixed the suggesed items in HiJack This and removed the files you indicated. There was also a Kontiki file in adobe5.0\reader\plugins. I use 6.0 now. Should I get rid of that Kontiki file. I also found another instance of iewww.exe but with an additional file extesnion IEWWWINT.EXE-1DFB5FCD.pf which was in C:\windows\preftech. Any problems there?

Here's my latest HiJack This log. Does it look clean? Thanks for all of your help :D

hello kidscrash, sorry for delay. yes i would get rid of the kontiki file, yes you can delete IEWWWINT.EXE-1DFB5FCD.pf in the prefetch folder. the prefetch directory can get full of junk and obsolete links over time-which can slow down your computer– Clean and remove the old data every month: Open C:\ windows\ prefetch directory and delete junk and obsolete files. Then Reboot run HJT and have it fix: O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {339BB23F-A864-48C0-A59F-29EA915965EC} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [saie] c:\windows\system32\saie.exe next delete just the > saie.exe file < in c:\windows\system32 if it gives you trouble, boot into safe mode(tap F8 key at startup, chose SAFE MODE) and then delete it. also it looks like your running more than 1 antivirus app, more than one is not better in this case. also some people classify wild tangent as spyware, go to there website, read there privacy policy, up to you. after log looks good- we will make new restore points……..later…….
OK halflife. Deleted the last couple of suggested files and fixed recommended items in my last HJT. I suspected that running two virus scanners was hanging me up, so I've diabled everything but eScan. Here's my last HJT log. Anything left besides setting up a new restore point? :weee:

Please follow a few tips to remain malware free:

1) Make sure you keep your Windows OS current by visiting Windows update occasionaly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. With out these you are leaving the backdoor open.
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

Also download, install and keep updated- Antivirus Software (and use only one):
Free for home users:
http://www.avast.com/eng/free_virus_protectio.html
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/
http://www.free-av.com/

2) Watch what you download, and where you download it from. Many programs come bundled with crapware. Make sure you know what it is you will be downloading and installing. Visit the makers website, learn more about the program, read the privacy policy. Does the program you want come bundled with other "3rd party" programs? What do the 3rd party programs do? Will it deliver ads?.You may be installing more than you think., Stay away from warez and crack sites. Becarful what you download from file sharing networks. If you are not sure, scan it with your Antivirus app. A small file (in KB) is probably not what you think it is.

3)Adjust your browser settings: Change your(active x) settings in IE. With IE open go to tools, internet options, security tab. Click on the internet globe, then custom level. Set the first option "download signed active x controls" to prompt, the next two to disable. Read more: https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/btw/ie/ie-opts.htm
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/using/…y/settings.mspx
Many exploits are directed at Internet Explorer, you dont have to use it. Try a different browser: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

4)Install a firewall. A firewall will control what comes in from the internet and what leaves your computer to the internet. A firewall will also alert you when a application trys to connect to the internet from your computer, this is a good way to catch crapware or trojans, trying to connect out bound from your computer- whats that and why does it need a internet connection? You can deny it access it until more investigation is done. Zone Alarm is a free and easy to use firewall, that will provide in and outbound protection. Microsoft XP firewall only provides inbound protection. SP2 adds in and out bound protection which is better than nothing, but is not as robust as third party firewalls. Be sure to run only >one< firewall. If you use another, be sure to disable XP's built in firewall.
Zone Alarm: http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp
Kerio Personal Firewall: http://www.kerio.com/us/kpf_home.html
Outpost Firewall: http://www.agnitum.com/products/outpost/

5)Download, install and update before using:(if these are constantly finding malware, then you need to make some changes.)
Ad-Aware SE Personal edition: http://www.lavasoft.de/
Spybot Search and destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
Becarful with spyware "removers and scanners"– there are many "rogue/suspect" programs that "claim to remove" spyware.
