Well I strated with the Spybot S&D/Ad-aware combie. That didn't work. Next I scanned with Hi-Jack this and deleted the files I recognized were ralted to ABout:Blank. Actually, there were others I wanted to nix at the same time, so I did (thank you Hi-Jack). Anyway, I rescanned before rebooting and the files were gone. When I rebotted, they reappeared. I repeated the process only I followed up Hi-Jack this with Spybot/Adaware and the same thing happened. Future scans with Hijack this don't reveal the files, but the ABout:Blank still has control of Explorer with one notable difference - there is no content on the screen. All the links to shopping, anti-spyware, etc is gone, but the ABout:Blank is still in the address bar and still prevents me from accessing my-email. I had to download Mozilla just to be able to access my e-mail and get to this site. Turns out I like Mozilla, so it's not a bad thing. I'm also still getting anti-Spyware pop-ups when I try to use IE. About:Blank and the related pop-ups are not an issue with Mozilla, but I'm concerned that other files may be present as a result of ABout:Blank.
Well deleting the entries from HJT have prevented removal of the about blank infection in any normal way. I also believe that you have also deleted some vital system entries that are going to end up causing you more computer problems than were necessary had you come to us before using HJT. HJT is a dangerous tool unless you know exactly what you are doing as it makes changes to the registry which are sometimes unrecoverable.

If I've deleted any necessary files, which I'm not saying I did or didn't, my system seems to be running fine. I've had no hangups and no problems running any applications except for IE. I also have a backup of my registry through Registry Mechanic, if necessary.

Thanks for your all your help.
Hi you have a couple of things you should delete as they will come back to haunt you if you don't. The windows text did not show what I expected it to but your system is running fine. You may find that it does come back and if it does please post back in this thread and we will work on getting rid of the about blank infection.

To remove the spyware/adware/malware from your computer please:

1. Scan again with HijackThis (ALL WINDOWS CLOSED EXCEPT HJT)

2. Put a check mark beside each of the following entries in the HJT window

O16 - DPF: ChatSpace Java Client 3.0.0.207 - http://chat.ccwerks.net:8002/Java/cms3207.cab

O16 - DPF: {6B4788E2-BAE8-11D2-A1B4-00400512739B} (PWMediaSendControl Class) - http://216.249.24.142/code/PWActiveXImgCtl.CAB

3. Click 'fix checked

4. REBOOT into normal mode

5. please SCAN again with HJT and

6. POST a new log file here in this thread using 'Add Reply' to see what is left to clean.

still appears to be clean how is your computer behaving. If about blank returns please leave the R0's, R1's, O2's and O4's in the log when you post it
Hi, The About:Blank is still present, but my computing is fine. I've been using Mozilla ever since, so the About:Blank has presented no problems. I giess the pop ups only occur when I use IE (they by-pass my pop-up filter). (In case you need to know) As for the R0s and 1's and the 02's and 4's, the most recent HJT scan logs are the complete logs. I haven't deleted anything else since the one time I went delete hunting and all start up programs in MSCONFIG are checked and the computer rebooted before I ran the scans. Thanks for all of your help.

could you open IE, then close again - reboot - then post a fresh log. Your log currently looks clean. That may encourage it to show itself.

I changed the home page in IE from About:Blank to Yahoo just to see if would let me and it did. I wasn't able to do that before, so maybe it is gone now.
Well it sure looks gone.
=========================
This is my normal post for when you are clear - which you now are:-
————————
How on earth did I get infected with all that spyware in the first place? http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-bin/for…=ST;f=38;t=3051
Also available from here :- http://www.computercops.biz/postlite7736-.html or http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957

Look at the info on my website regarding malware (Link below). Some things you can do to stop getting infected again:-

Spybot S&D, Ad-aware Run weekly - or after a heavy internet session.
Spybot S&D v1.3 also have a run time module that runs in the background.

Spywareblaster & Spywareguard, first sets kill bits to stop known bad activeX controls installing, second acts like your AV to stop browser hijacks and installing of known badies.

Also ie-spyad (Link on my site), puts 4000 bad sites in your restricted (banned) sites list, to stop you accidentaly getting sent to a bad site, it has optional list of "bad" adult sites to install as well.

All those with links from my site. Do remember just like Anti-Virus they need to be updated regularly, I do mine weekly, Anti-Virus hourly.

Another good program www.winpatrol.com from here.

With these and a firewall in place I have to try various bad sites when checking peoples hijackthis logs looking to sort bad from good, and I have not yet been infected. Still time for it to happen LOL.
