Until last week I could avail of Symantec Security Check & Google/Search without any error messages.
Since then whenever I access Symantec>security Check>Virus Detection>Start I get a message "UNABLE TO RUN VIRUS DETECTION'.
Under IE>Tools>Internet Option>Security Tab>Internet Zone>Custom Level> ActiveX Control Section under Download signed ActiveX controls have selected PROMPT.
Under Run ActiveX controls have selected ENABLE.
Under Download Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting have selected ENABLE.
Still I get the same message.

Similarly in Google/Search "msg118.dll" I get message ERROR. Requested URL could not be retrieved.
While trying to retrieve the URL http://www.google.com/Search the following error was encountered : ACCESS DENIED.
Access control configuration prevents your request from being allowed this time.

Both NOD32 and Housecall.trendmicro report NO Virus.

When I click on Taskbar>Task manager all I get is a blank rectangle and nothing else. Have to get rid of it by ALT+F4.

When I run Spybot S&D 1.3 it finds Vx2BetterInternet & Look2Me. No matter how many times I select fix selected problems and run the program again the same infestations are reported.

Some malware has disturbed my settings.

I REQUEST ALL YOU EXPERIENCED PEOPLE TO HELP ME TO RESOLVE THIS
PROBLEM.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Please download and run CWShredder. Make sure that all browser windows are closed with the exception of Cwshredder and choose FIX.

REBOOT

Download Adaware. Insure that you check for updates then close Adaware.

- Close Ad-Aware SE and Ad-Watch (if running)
- Download the free VX2 Cleaner at http://download.lavasoft.de.edgesuite.net/…lvx2cleaner.exe
- Install the VX2 Cleaner
- Start Ad-Aware SE
- Go to "Plug-ins"
- Select the VX2 Cleaner plug-in and click "Run Plugin"- Select "Clean system"
- Reboot your computer
- Scan your computer with Ad-Aware
- Remove any VX2 objects detected
- Reboot your computer again
- Run a second scan to make sure the files have been removed from your computer

Then do a virus scan here >>> Micro World http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/free_utilities.asp

To run the virus scan make sure you click the following

memory, registry, startup folders, system folders, services, drive (all drives will be added) then click on scan clean.

Reboot and post a new log.

Hello Siqqyx. Same problems remain. At Symantec after message 'Downloading ActiveX Controls' I get message "The ActiveX Control failed to load." When I tyoe msg118.dii in Google Search Bar I get message "ERROR" ACCESS DENIED" The Task Manager does not have any Header or Footer. Have to use Alt+F4 to get out of it. Any suggestions ? Nariman

Please boot safe mode then scan with CWshredder and choose fix.

Then while still in safe mode scan with hijackthis and put a check beside these lines and choose FIX.

I would like you to run a scan with Trojan Hunter from the link below, it has a free 30 day trial version. Please make sure that you update it before you run it.

Then reboot a new hijackthis log. Also let me know if there is anything that it found but could not remove.

TrojanHunter did not find any trojans but error as under :

Please boot to safe mode then scan with CWShredder and choose FIX.

The scan with hijackthis again and put a check beside these lines and choose FIX.

Hello Siqqyx. No change. Same problems remain. 1)Symantec->Security Check->Virus Detection->Start After 'Downloading activeX Controls' the next msg is 'The activeX controls failed. However Security Scan works fine. 2) When I type msg118.dll in Google Toolbar/Search I get message ERROR - The requested URL couldnot be retrieved. Access Denied. Access control configuration prevents your request from being allowed at this time. 3) While scanning with NOD32 it reports No Virus found BUT reports the following : C:\Pagefile.sys - error opening (access denied) C;|Windows\System32\msguard.dll - error opening (file locked) Except for this there seems to be no other problem. Please empty all you temp folders. DO NOT DELETE THE FOLDERS ONLY THE CONTENTS.
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\ CONTENTS
C:\Temp\ CONTENTS
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\ CONTENTS
Also delete your Temporary Internet Files Tools>InternetOptions delete all cookies, files as well as offline files. Also make sure that you clean out your recycle bin.

Then a new log please. I will ask an expert to review so hang in thre.

Both Panda & hOUSECALL REPORTED NO VIRUS.
however ravantivirus found 2 virus as detailed hereinunder BUT did not clean.
