Would someone please check my log, I have ran Adaware, S&D and have both Spyware Blaster and Zone Alarm running. Yet something still lurks somewhere.
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

Your About Blank isn't showing in this log, there's several of them so I don't know which one you have.
It most likely will reappear.

With only HJT running fix these:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FA55FE92-9317-0E72-9BED-1211735C089D} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\appap32.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [syslj.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\syslj.exe

Reboot into SafeMode and delete these files/folders:
HowToShowHiddenFiles - if needed
Use ctrl, alt and delete to bring up your task manager and end task on any of these files if they are listed before you delete them.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\appap32.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\msuv32.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\syslj.exe

Could you also…
Please download and unzip
AboutBuster to a folder. Inside the folder is a readme file that has instructions on the use of the program.
Reboot into safe mode and run AboutBuster, let me know if it finds anything.

MrC
Mr C
Many thanks for replying to my post.
I have carried out the HJT fixes and deleted the files you suggested, although I could not find one of them?
I have not been able to download About Buster because I keep getting redirected to res://ydcyp.dll/http_403.htm#35759.
Here is my new HJT log
Appreciate any advise you can give as to what to do next.

Ok, I see which one you have, but I'll have to get back to you tomorror (Oct. 1)

http://malwarebytes.biz/AboutBuster.zip <—here's the AboutBuster link, click on

it and see if you can download it.

We are also going to need AdAware, link below

http://www.cjwd.demon.co.uk/spybot-adaware.html

See if you can download those and I'll get back to you. Please post a fresh HJT log also.

MrC
You still with me???

I need you to post a fresh HJT log and don't turn off the pc until you here back from me, which will be soon.

MrC
Mr C
Apologies for not responding sooner, I have been working away for the last few days. Thanks for sticking with it.
The AboutBuster link still will not work but the Adaware will.
Here is the HJT log

Well we definitly need AboutBuster, what do you mean the link doesn't work??

Try to copy and paste it into your browser and then hit go.

You can also have someone else download it for you, it will fit on a floppy.

http://malwarebytes.biz/AboutBuster.zip

The key to fixing this hijacker is posting your log and not turning off the computer until you complete the fix.

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/AboutBuster.zip <—here's another AB link.

Let me know, MrC
Mr C

I now have AboutBuster via a friend and await your instructions.
HJT log, just incase you needed it.

Good, I hope you haven't turned your computer off since that log you posted, if you did, there's a good chance the files names have changed.

First thing you have to do is disable Spybots TeaTimer until we are finished.

Open SpyBot> on its tool-bar > Mode switch to advanced > tools >resident and uncheck tea timer. close SpyBot. in the windows tray (clock area) if tea timer is still visible right click it and chose exit.

Please read through and follow the instructions carefully before you start (you may want to print this out).

For anyone using Windows XP, 'Search' will not automatically show hidden files even if your folder options settings are set to do that. Do this so you can see hidden files and folders - click here http://www.davehigham.zen.co.uk/downloads/xphidden.zip to download xphidden.zip. Extract xphidden.reg from the zip file and save it to the desktop. When done, double-click the xphidden.reg and when asked to merge say yes.

Important Step
Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the service called: (you may find one or more)
Network Security Service <—this is exactly what they look like
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper <—
or
Workstation NetLogon Service <—

There are two other RPC services that should be left alone.

Here's an example of what it may look like:

The Display name = "the service"
The BINARY_PATH_NAME = "the bad file (make note of it)"

============================================================
Example

SERVICE_NAME: O?-’ŽrtñåȲ$Ó
(null)
TYPE : 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS
START_TYPE : 2 AUTO_START
ERROR_CONTROL : 0 IGNORE
BINARY_PATH_NAME : C:\WINNT\Greenstone.bmp:pcsbq /s
LOAD_ORDER_GROUP :
TAG : 0
DISPLAY_NAME : Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper
DEPENDENCIES :
SERVICE_START_NAME: LocalSystem

=====================================================================

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows. If you don´t find this service listed go ahead with the next steps.

Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete once => Click Task Manager => Click the Processes tab => Double-click the Image Name column header to alphabetically sort the processes => Scroll through the list and look for:

ntfr.exe
EPSTPLOG.TXT:wvndh
the bad file (from the service)

If you find the files, click on them, and then click End Process => Exit the Task Manager.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS AND BROWSERS Scan with Hijack This and put checks next to all the following, then click "Fix Checked"

(and any other files with the same name that end in .dll, .exe or .dat, you may find them right next to each other, example - appsw.exe, appsw.dll, appsw.dat)

Run AboutBuster . (run it twice) This will scan your computer for the bad files and delete them. Save the report (copy and paste into notepad or wordpad and save as a .txt file) and post a copy back here when you are done with all the steps.

Scan with AdAware and let it remove any bad files found.

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files

Can I just check something before I commence with your instructions?
At the very end of your post you say to reboot to normal mode, but I am not sure when I should have rebooted into safe mode.

I'm sorry, that's was a mistake - I'm so use to typing that.

WELL DONE!! ;)

Just have HJT fix these two, they're harmless but lets take care of them.

Please look at my Preventive Maintenace

How did I get infected anyway??

Thanks MrC
Hello HM1

I will be taking over for MrCharlie to help you. It appears your HJT log still shows some infection in it. You had one of the more severe infections that we see these days and there are remnants of it remaining which will cause it to reinstall. Please do the following steps in order.:

Step#1

Please download and open the following zip file. Double-click on the file inside the zip and when it asks you if you would like to merge the file into your registry, please answer yes. This will make sure all files are visible on your computer.

http://www.davehigham.zen.co.uk/downloads/xphidden.zip

Step#2

The first thing I need you to do is download the file from here:

Getservice.zip

Extract the file to the c:\ drive. Then navigate to the c:\getservices and double-click on the getservices.bat file. A notepad will open up. Please paste the contents of that notepad as a reply to this post.

Step#3

This infection continues to reinstall itself through a hidden dll which we have to find and remove.

1. Please download DllCompare
( The Screenshot will show you how the program will look when it starts.)

2. Start the Program with its default settings and put a check mark in the include subdirectories. Click the Run Locate.com and wait until the scan says complete.

3. Click the Compare button to start the next process.

4. Files in the upper portion have been verified to "exist", Files in the bottom section were not able to be accessed. Very few files should be listed in the bottom section when the Compare scan is complete.

5. Click on each of the listed entries in the lower section to select them. Right-click on the file and use the Option Rescan screenshot.

6. This will cause Windows Find to see if the file does exist, and then it will be removed from the list (to reduce the number of identified files) screenshot

7. Click the Make a Log of what was found button, and post the log here in this thread using Add Reply to receive further instructions.

Step#4

Please post those two log files in this thread using Add Reply and I will give you further instructions.
Thanks to Mr. Charlie for all his help so far, and thanks for stepping in and giving advise. Those are clean. Running the following in order without a break between should clean what is left and give me an HJT log. Is your computer still having problems, if so, please describe them.

Step#1
Please use CWShredder again to run and fix anything it finds

Step#2
Please run Ad-Aware set up according to the instructions at the bottom of this post in "How To Setup Spybot SD and Ad-AwareSE" and delete what it finds

Step#3

Please clean out System Restore because other programs are unable to clean any files in the backups. All Restore Points will be lost when you do this but they are probably infected anyway.

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Step#4
