hello DQ932,

could you put HJt into its own folder.

download and run CWshredder. you can get it here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html

also download and run ad-aware from here:
http://www.lavasoft.de/

>>>>to configure ad aware:

click on "Check For Updates Now", download updates.

Next:

- Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Scanning Engine:
check: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

Scanning > activate these: "Scan within archives", "Scan active processes", "Scan registry", "Deep scan registry", "Scan my IE Favorites for banned sites" and "Scan my Hosts file"

Tweaks > Cleaning Engine: activate these: "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Press "Scan Now"

- Check option "Use Custom scanning options"
- Check option "Activate In-Depth Scan"
- Press "Select drives\folders to scan"
- Select the active partition which is usually C:

Now press "Next" to let Ad-aware scan your drives…
It will find a number of "bad" files and registry keys. Click 'Next' again
Right-click in that pane and choose "select all"

If it finds "bad" files and registry keys, press "Next" again
It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK.

Finally, close Ad-Aware, and reboot.

next:
Have Hijack This fix all of the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and hitting fix checked. Make sure all browsers and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

hello DQ932,

LA- is that the city or state of LA
heres a link for creating a folder for HJT:
http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm

first look in add/remove programs list and uninstall if present;
Web_Rebates
Windows SyncroAd

next pick 2 or 3 of these and do acouple of online scans:

http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/free_utilities.asp

http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co…n_principal.htm

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php

http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

also update nad run your resident antivirus application

————————————————————————————————-
ok next:
make sure files are set to show:

Double click my computers & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

ok on to that log- this time we will try the same thing except we will do it in safe mode.
to get into safe mode tap the f8 key after a restart- there will be several options, we want Safe Mode, arrow up to it- click enter, it may take acouple min to get to the safe mode desktop.

ok once in safe mode;
run CWshredder,let it clean whatever it finds–then on to HJT:

ok next we have to find and delete some files;
right click on start>explore> click the + sign by WINDOWS folder- now find system32 folder and open it and look for ?hkntfs.exe and delete just the ?hkntfs.exe file.
same thing for dnx?.exe except its here: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\

ok still in safe mode clear temps:
Empty Temp folders. Go to Start > Run and type:cleanmgr. Windows will scan. When done check these 3 and press *ok* to remove:

Recycle Bin

afterwards post a new HJT log……
Good evening Shelf life, It's LA as in HOLLYWOOD, BABY! I haven't been able to get past the scans. No programs to delete, that was the first thing. I used Trend micro and it found something and deleted it, BUT next I used bitdefender and it found LOTS…but due to 2 Microsoft errors both scans closed down and then… I rescanned and 7 hrs later, still scanning, I lost it totally. With bitdefender the scan sometimes said "deleted" sometimes "unable to disinfect" and also asked permission to make a "copy" of a file . Should I try again ? Or use one of the others? Thanks I'll await your advice. DQ932
Hi shelf life,
Here's the latest… did well with your instructions til the very last, cleanmgr…nothing happened,zilch, nada so I removed temp files the old fashioned way…anywho I do believe we have a winner! Check this out please. I hope my system is healthy once again. Thanks for your help, I definitely will contribute to your site, you're providing a much needed service and I am truly grateful. DQ932 ;)

hello DQ932,

sorry for delay, log looks better, few more to go, (In safe mode)

make sure files are set to show:

Double click my computers & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

to get into safe mode tap the f8 key after a restart- there will be several options, we want Safe Mode, arrow up to it- click enter, it may take acouple min to get to the safe mode desktop.

ok once in safe mode;

Have Hijack This fix all of the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and hitting fix checked. Make sure all browsers and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

after- boot normally, update and run your AV scanner.
you can try some of the online scanners again if you want;a scan shouldnt take anywhere near 7 hrs to complete.
