 Below is my HJT log. I have run Adaware, Spybot, CWS
and I don't know what else to do. For about five minutes things run
ok, then everything slows to a crawl, my sites get diverted, my
home page changes. Please help me. My likelyhood is on the line.
Thank you so very much. :) Also something called "puppyboys" keeps
taking over my sites.

Greetings and welcome to TomCoyote.org!

First go to:

Start > Control panel > Add/Remove Programs, and remove:

New.Net

Reboot afterwards.

Next, Please try these free online virus scans of your system:

Trend-Micro Housecall

Panda Activescan

Etrust Security Advisor

Choose "fix" or "clean".

Let them remove any infections found. Reboot after each scan.

Next, you need to get Hijack This! out of your root folder.

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
Move HijackThis into this folder.

If required a tutorial is here = Hijackthis Folder Tutorial

Then make a new log file, and "copy/paste" it into this thread. :)
Hi,

Here is my current HJT log. I did remove New.Net ( I think). Tried to run Panda scan but my computer quickly came to a crawl, CPU at 100%, and I stopped it after 2 hours or so, having checked only 25,000 files. I did run a Macfee check while in safe mode and it found only C:window\system32\19465_upexe but could not delete, it only quaranteed. I rebooted, ran adaware in safe mode and it had over 500 things, including nCase and eZula which it could not fix. There were 26 things it couldn't fix. So if you can take a look at my log and tell me my next move. Thanks so much. :)

I was afraid of that… <_<

I don't want to alarm you, but you've got enough bugs in your machine to make an extermintor run away in horror! :o

That's why things are so slow, and the online scans aren't working.

But, I've seen worse, so hang in there!!!!

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Scan".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

Hi Micah,

Well, I did what was on the your list. Ran Adaware, Spybot…both still showed nCase and EzuLa..could not fix..26 entries for EzuLa, 2 for nCase. Deleted in doc&set\user names, went to windows\temp..deleted two files but there are folders that would not let me delete….apropos0; 3IP5ZTN; Auto update;E2a05564(_ad216.adx); and 7 folders for media ticket..if any of this is of importance. I am also get prompted with: c:documents~1\Abby\local~1\temp\msrubnf,exe and msrupxk.exe are not suitable for running ms-dos & windows..I have to click close to keep working…what is this? Ran another log and it follows..noticed a few things I earlier checked to fix are back but I left them for you to see the log that has run….is it me???am I doing something????hmmmm….

You're doing just great!!!

If the virus scans, Spybot and Adaware don't get rid of the malware, we just pick them off one-by-one with Hijack This!

It will take multiple iterations, but as long as the list of "things to fix" gets shorter each time, we're moving in the right direction.

The list is getting shorter, so you are winning each battle. Just hang in there!!!

First, you need to MOVE Hijack This! out of your root folder on C:

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
MOVE HijackThis into this folder.

If required a tutorial is here = Hijackthis Folder Tutorial

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Scan".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [USB Device] win32usb.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Windows Updates] EXPLORER32.EXE

Hi Micah,

Sorry it took so long to get this posted but I've been away from the computer and just got back. I went through and did the last check and delete on HJT and the files you indicated should be deleted. I rebooted and here is my latest HJT log.
Thanks so much for your help.

And post all the places it exists on your machine?

You've got a "good" one and a "bad" one. We need to find and delete the "bad" one.
Hey Micah,

Ok, went through and did what you listed. Did a search for 'gp' and got lots, then did gp.exe, found and deleted. Found the other files and deleted. With winlogon there were a few…WINLOGON which I left and winlogon which I deleted. I found msmsgs in….C:\1386\mmssetup.cab.. I deleted. Also in C"\programFiles\messenger .. I deleted;msmsgs.exe-01AFAD3B.pt in C:\Windows\Prefetch which I deleted. Here is my latest HJT log and again, thanks so much for your help :)

Also in C"\programFiles\messenger .. I deleted

This was the "good" one. :(

If it's not too late, restore it out of the recycle bin.

Please follow my instructions to avoid deleting the wrong thing. If you're not sure you're removing the right file, just post back with the complete path name, and I will advise. :)

Hi Micah,

I did find and put back the messenger file from recyle bin. Deleted from HJT. Searched and deleted what I found on the three system32 files. Ran Adaware again and found 65 files and deleted. Rebooted and here is the latest HJT log. Also, I am still sometimes getting my page hijacked…usually to "Puppyboyz". Just the address shows up in the bar, not the contents. Doesn't sound like anything I want to go into! Why am I still getting hijacked to there??? Thanks again. :)

Unfortunately you've taken a major step in the wrong direction….

It seems you've picked up several new infections since your last post (as you can see from the list of "fixes" and "find and deletes").

Please go here:

System Restore

To learn how to turn system restore ON/OFF.

Then turn your system restore OFF.

Then try the online virus scans on more time:

Trend-Micro Housecall

Panda Activescan

Etrust Security Advisor

Choose "fix" or "clean".

Let them remove any infections found. Reboot after each scan.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Scan".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):
(if they still exist)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Win32 System Spool] spoolsvc.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows media service] crsss.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SYSTRAY] C:\UNMT.EXE

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Update Machine] wuamgrd.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Starting up] wvsvc.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msn] msnmsg.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Win32 System Spool] spoolsvc.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows media service] crsss.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Update Machine] wuamgrd.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Starting up] wvsvc.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [msn] msnmsg.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Update Machine] wuamgrd.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Starting up] wvsvc.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msn] msnmsg.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [msn] msnmsg.exe

Then click "Fix checked".

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Find and delete:

c:\unmt.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\crsss.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\wuamgrd.exe <— file

Use windows explorer to find and delete:

msnmsg.exe <— file

spoolsvc.exe <— file

wvsvc.exe <— file

SOME OF THESE FILE NAMES RESEMBLE VALID WINDOWS APPLICATIONS, SO BE CAREFUL THAT THE FILE YOU DELETE MATCHES THE NAME GIVEN EXACTLY!!!

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode.

Then turn your system restore ON, and reboot.

Then make a new log file and "copy/paste" it into this thread. :)
Hi Micah,

Well, wonder how that all happened?? But I followed your directions…could not find c:\unmt.exe…could not find c:\windows\system32\wuamgrd.exe. Also, did not find the file "spoolsvc.exe". Found wvsvc.exe and deleted; also found WVSVC in windows prefetch and left it. Found msnmsg.exe only in c:\RECYCLER. Ran the scans..Panda found 7 viruses; Micro found 2. So anyways, here is the latest scan. I think it looks pretty good…??? Thanks!

WOO HOO!!!!

You killed it!!!!

R.I.P. to your infection!!!

GOD bless!!!

M68 :)

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?" here:

http://boards.cexx.org/viewtopic.php?t=957

Download IE-Spyad here:

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings here:

http://browsercheck.qualys.com/index.php

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.
(Personally, I'm NOT recommending SP2 for XP at this time)

YEAH!!!! :D Thank you so very much for your help. I just installed IE-Spyad. Also have Spyguard and SpywareBuster. Hope it stays this clean. Again, you are the BEST! :wavey:
